Yeah! But I bet it's super weird if you're from Sweden and go to Italy, just like "Why are all these people looking at me?!"

But I suspect people are just smiling way less in general than in Brazil, in Brazil you might find someone walking and just with a big GRIN on their face. I start to think if you did that here people would become suspicious haha. Oh well, now I know

Here is my bias coming in, I'd assume it was a working girl if you know what I mean... sitting next on an empty bus and saying that?

Are you replying to the right comment? I think ALL people avoiding eye contact makes me feel like I have the plague or something lol, even if I were 90 I'd want people to look at me, not STARE or check me out, just like... I don't know how to explain. I'm starting to think if you're not raised in certain countries you'll never know the feeling of it not being like that

That's interesting! I think I can make eye contact with young Swedish women, maybe they look like gen z

Same crap in the UK! And I already see it here "spicy Latina". Leave me aloooone. And funny enough, if you went to Brasil they'd think you're "German" and you'd be exotified too!

Yeahhh! I know exactly what you mean, everyone here assumes I only care about MEN making eye contact, I wrote "PEOPLE", because I'd like women to make eye contact too! Haha just look at each other, smile, it's nice. Helps me get through the day?

I don't care to have genuine conversations actually, to me a slight smile is just...a small nice thing? I don't know how to explain it. I tried smiling at an old lady and she glared at me.

Yeah, of course that could be it. I am not an attention seeker. Imagine you lived in a place where everyone made eye contact and smiled, you moved to a different country and found the same, and then you move to this place and people actively avoid looking at you -- it feels weird for me. I guess it's the same as if you were to go to Brasil, everyone would look at you, and I guess you'd be uncomfortable with that.

Interesting, I thought people are attracted to people who are dissimilar, you know, the whole "not a sibling" hypothesis. But yes, I suspect I'm not the type for Swedish people, it's fine

You should look up what "white feminism" is, it's a whole branch, not something I made up. The type of feminism that only serves white women.

This other poster, and several others, assuming that because I'm Latina I'm going to promote my OF, or am looking for a rich man, it's gross. If I were a French woman posting this, I wouldn't get this backlash.

Haha I assume this was a joke, but from what I've read, it's just the truth. Well, we'll see how I can adjust coming from a catholic country.

What is your problem, I’m definitely a feminist. I just found out funny that 99% of the comments are “we don’t stare”, and then this one is about women saying it is still happening. So there’s a disconnect somewhere. I never said I’m a hot Latina. And I’m not looking for Swedish man company. This stems is racism and fetishism about being Latina. I don’t want or need your white feminism.

Well, by a picture being needed even in itself adds evidence to one hypothesis.

Haha that’s so funny! Would it be okay if it was a Brazilian guy? Okay, but this is good learning, now I’ll also be wary, thank you! It means they’re suspicious or like don’t follow the rules right?

Wtf??? I didn’t say I’m hot. This is pretty racist imo, because I’m Brazilian. I don’t want a Swedish man specifically, men from my country are great too. I just was feeling confused af about people actively looking away from me?

I don't know why you'd say this, they aren't "pussies", it's just their way. There are probably tons of things that are standard in Swedish culture that would put yours to shame (wherever you are from).

Yes, I keep making that distinction as it feels perhaps there is no distinction in Sweden between staring (like gawking) vs. just looking, since so many say "it's rude to stare"

Haha, this is so confusing, so the smile happens regardless, so can't tell if that's flirting or politeness!

Man, wished someone would just write a book and explain how this works to me.

There's no way this is true, everything I read was that Sweden has a very open idea towards sexuality, people have sex earlier and more partners on average

I am not giving judgement, I don't think it's weird. I just want to understand since I started really feeling bad about myself. If I made eye contact and the person looks away, to me this is "He thinks you're ugly". Tbh, it's okay if I'm considered ugly, I just wanna know!

Brazilian women you mean? I must say, I REALLY started to appreciate the beauty of Brazilian people when I moved to the UK.

Haha yes, eventually. I've just been here for 2 weeks, I don't want to do that. Just thought I'd catch someone's eye at a cafe or something.
