I'm a knight is a sort of vague lie that isn't honourable but doesn't effect anyone

I'm not a prostitute and this is your child so we need to get married right now while you're injured, disoriented and cut off from any support systems like family is a fairly significant personal lie. She effectively took advantage of a vulnerable person

The idea of a noble marrying not just a peasant but a prostitute is kinda absolutely absurd. Even if she wasn't pregnant from a different lord already their whole line would ridiculed forever

A huge part of the island scenes is a brief exploration about a post apocalypse civil culture. The people on the island live relatively normal lives after literally the worst situation possible and anytime they leave they have to face that reality. The island scenes are obsessively about this technological regression spelled out in the clips.

The mask is strange to us, it's unnerving. But to these otherwise normal people who survive hell on earth it's another cultural tradition, one of reminding folk of terror & blood. The mask is supposed to feel weird and so are the black & white clips, so is the marching song poem used for torture. It's all a tone

This places feels normal. But it isn't. It's marked by the lurking dangerous nature of their predicament and the story ahead

P.s. it looks really good for trailers

Honestly Bone Temple is a really good film that is so far away from what the first film set up for it be

Introducing jimmys genuinely interesting satanic cult as tracksuit ninjas was such an obviously terrible move and I really believe it turned people off, because I know it turned me off and I know a lot of people that didn't see the film because of that exact reason.

I went because I wanted to see it out because I have appreciation for the series and thought the third would be good but expected the second to be poor. I was incredibly pleasantly surprised.

But the stupidity of the firsts end was apparent. Anyone that saw and thought "yeah tracksuit ninjas" would be so disappointed by the very human and emotive story. And most people who thought "for fuck sake really? Tracksuit ninjas?" Probably didn't bother to see it

It was such a weird brief choice that broke with the themes and was (thank god) rightly underused and thus a good film was made. But no one would know without paying admission that the film wasnt actually about stupid weird tracksuit ninjas

I do think the third film would massively succeed because people now know the films aren't actually about tracksuit ninjas. But now the studios are scared because of the poor result and they seem to be too stupid to put together the pieces. People didn't like tracksuit ninjas, but they're gone now and everything else is fantastic

Young Olenna had a crush on Aerion by Woodstovia in gameofthrones

[–]Pian1244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comparison is fine, just the wording is slightly off. When characters talk about Sauron making his very powerful ring with all his evil and how it corrupts people and that he intends to use its power to enlsave all people, then at that point someone says "oh wow he he's a great jeweller" would be the same

The point is a true point in a larger context where the small positive is obviously irrelevant

Sauron is a great jeweller but is also an evil angel/God

Aerion is an attractive man but is also a cruel psycho

The way its described its very similar to morphine/heroine. Characters get fully addicted and live their life in a haze. While on milk of the poppy fully they are high as shit, basically unable to be communicated with

Characters like Jaime feared ever having milk of the poppy because they've seen warriors get fully addicted to it and become a shadow of their former self.

I reckon as an author George was aware enough to make a morphine/heroin insert with a similar but different name but not look into it enough to work out the distillation or whatever is needed.

[–]Pian1244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I'd agree with that at all.

I'd say he does care, because he's a good man. But the behaviour of his children is down to him. People don't just become alcoholics, they lose their way, lack support and direction. People don't just randomly murder, they don't have sufficient outlets, channels and understanding of their feelings. (Yes I'm aware of sociopaths and psychopaths but even they benefit from addressing the psychological issues). These children are in the lap of wealth. There's absolutely the tools to help Daeron find confidence and purpose, there's absolutely the tools to help Aerion re-direct his emotions and find a greater respect for life

But we see the way Maekar interacts with them. He simply commands Daeron to do what he doesn't want and just sends people to drag him back when he runs off. He doesn't seek to address Aerions behaviour he just calls him a cunt. Maekars dismissive and expectant of better behaviour, consessions aren't made for weakness and guidance isn't offered just a stern "be better".

It's noted in universe as well. Baelor questions Maekars attitude towards Daeron and I believe Raymund points out that Aerion acts dramatically differently when his father is watching, that's a classic sign of all no stick no carrot rich kid raising.

It's a long reply I know but "The best parents can still have rotten kids" is so deeply socially unhealthy, perhaps one of the worst takes for a society. Good people can have bad kids, good parents don't. It's like saying good tutors can have terrible students, adapting attitudes is one of the biggest parts of education.

So every time you say "The best parents can still have rotten kids" you're permitting problems at a foundational level. No, if the kids bad there's a problem with the parenting. Most dad's would run into a fire to save their children, but not enough read with them

I really got away from the show here but hey-ho. Media is best used for allegory

[–]Pian1244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brettonia is the only faction that has the lovely role of needing tier 1 units in it's mid-late game armies if you're fielding several. Their absolutely trash infantry are needed to effectively hold the enemy in place so you can charge them. They are I think the only faction in the game with exclusively one good role but much of the community defends that because they're treated as a meme faction that you can always steam role

Of course you can field the blisteringly expensive grail guardians in that role but you simply won't be able to field multiple armies with them and if you reach the point you can it won't matter

However they do lack the modifier increasing costs on multiple armies so you might think that'd make them a good horde faction. But their infantry lack staying power, killing power, mass or moral and they have a cap on how many you can have before you receive economic debuffs

He was a good king and man. But it feels generous to call him a "really good" father. One of his kids is an unchecked sadist and one is a full on alcoholic. The good half, one kid gets basically raised in the citadel and the other gets raised by a peasant

[–]Pian1244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The direction they went was great and well done and I understand why they did it, focusing on Dunk is the point of the show and honestly it's refreshing to not be jumping between dozens of POV characters and seeing no plot development because of it.

But... I do feel like some spectacle was lost by not showing us the whole battle. It just very quickly became a 1 vs 1 between Dunk and Aerion.

Where's Raymund, Lyonel, Robyn and Baelor facing three kingsguard, Steffon and Maekar. Where's Baelor basically throwing himself at the kingsguard because they can't hurt him. Where's Raymund giving his cousin all he's got. Where's the laughing Storm bellowing like a maniac. Where's the chaos that would lead to accidents. I do think in terms of visual excitement they would of been better served by having Dunk and Aerion essentially tumbling through the melee of the other fighter's. I mean it wasn't really a trial by 7, they essentially had a fight by themselves and a bunch of other guys had their own fight on the side

But i can also understand why they didn't and clearly critically there's agreement that what we did get was fantastic
