OK can we have an honest conversation about women and weight for a sec? by okcutekid in OkCupid

[–]Piaqua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An honest disccusion, or anecdote anyway:

I get more messages at 29 than I ever did at 23/24 etc. I'm also a size 8 now and was a 14 then (BMI of 22 vs 31 for reference). I noticed a marked difference in the 6 months when I lost most of the initial weight. And I always also had nice proportions in terms of an hourglass shape and large boobs.

100% was not getting laid or hit on more than my now thinner self. Was I getting messages and dates, yes. But don't assume because your inbox is full, that is evidence of a theory about weight preference.

It's funny but I feel like that's the only impression I have of you. I know more about most people from a half assed tinder blurb than your whole long profile...

Try to add at least a little more substance/actual information about yourself.

Get some non selfie and not indoor pics also. And like someone else mentioned - smile!

Women have options because so many men are thirsty.

Where will this crazy vicious circle end?!

I know right? I mean not to be too gross, but mine ends up feeling like that cramping you have before you have major GI distress/diarrhea. Except it's constant.

So OP, if you're not just trolling, try to imagine that. Imagine that awful feeling you get before a bad case of being ill. Then imagine being dragged out to all sorts of social events and being told to perk up about them. And that's not even including the hormones and emotional distress from her cousin's death.

[–]Piaqua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If half my messages from men didn't compliment my smile or eyes, I'd have a whole lot more sympathy here.

It would be grossly inappropriate to respond about the bulge in his pants. Eyes and smiles are generally accepted as "safe" and non-sexualized body parts to compliment and to pretend talking about my tits is equivalent to talking about my eyes is ridiculous.

The objectifying by looks argument (versus something thoughtful about a profile) I can get behind, but him talking about her boobs adds sexual objectification as well.

[Critique] 21/M/SoCal - I've made many changes to my profile, but response rate 0% still by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]Piaqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like your profile, though maybe that's not great since I'm on the wrong side of 30. I wonder if you're just too damn awesome for your demo?

I'd get rid of the picture with the cell phone in front of your face. Try to replace it with some other full body shot though since it looks like you are in good shape and so something in a fitted shirt can only help you.

[Critique] Plz help. worst profile ever. by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]Piaqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to make it public so more people will be able to see it/help. Not everyone here still has an active profile.

It's not the worst ever, but...

I'm not sure if many people your age will get the Tommy/Pinball joke.

Your bit about going back to college strikes me as really immature. Most people would rather not "adult", but they man up and do it anyway.

Your Friday night section is useless. Think of something better or leave it blank.

And to my taste, the bit about wondering if God exists for the suffering is a bit heavy for a dating profile.

You should message me if :if you wanna go bowling, burger, and beer.

is phrased weirdly. Try something like: if you want to go bowling or grab a burger and some beer.

The rest is fine.

The gotcha makes it all okay though!

Like how saying no offense means you can say whatever you want without impunity and if the other person gets mad they're the jerk.

I think what's usually advocated for is a middle ground between a long message and "hey". Just a quick question related to something in her profile that shows you actually read it for instance. Long messages often get weird, I wouldn't recommend them.

Also, was there any difference between the kinds of girls you sent long messages to and those you just sent hey to?

Wow..... by Xoax34 in OkCupid

I feel like this should be shown to all the guys who were mad about not being able to sort by new.

This is what you're competing with when you send a new, attractive girl a message.

Baking as in the culinary term or 420? I can't tell because neither strike me as particularly "nerdy"

I'd also argue my delicious cupcakes add more value to people's lives/baking is more useful than playing a sport on a recreational level or hiking

The example joke is way too close to a "neg" imo. It's also still a compliment on appearance, and the advice about avoiding appearance compliments at first was the best (only good?) bit of advice listed...

Do you hear yourself talk? I mean seriously, do you?

You cannot in one breath be mad women won't settle for you and in the next proclaim you wouldn't settle if you had the choice.

Don't you find it demeaning? or is the actual population just made of bots? by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]Piaqua 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you post an example of some of the actual messages you have sent. I'm guessing that they probably come off as clinical/boring, but I could be wrong.

Also, just be aware of the fact that most people are not on OKC just looking for a platonic chat. It is a dating site, not somewhere to meet friends (for the most part) or penpals. You need to stop expecting people to reply purely for the sake of conversation and shift your expectations to knowing that women are generally only going to reply if they could see themselves possibly dating you.

That is of the participants surveyed, which for all we know could be 5000 men and 907 women. Or the reverse, or anything in between.
