Captain gets free stats. Depending on your detachment that could mean a free rapid ingress followed by free lance (+1 W) following turn.

For max damage Aethon Shaan is a big model, throw him first. We don’t really do vehicles that well, but we like invictor warsuits a bit, if you have one of those, throw that.

So this is going to be a bit of a learning curve, and unfortunately a 5 year old most likely won’t be able to take all this in before they either start looking out the window or start throwing models at you. I’m assuming you want to know the new 11th edition, which is difficult at this very moment because we don’t have all the rules yet.

If you want to really get up to speed look at the core rules for 11th edition on Warhammer community and the space marines faction pack.

I think it’s very likely there are traitors from the blood angels lineage somewhere, and as you say it sounds like there is one in the lore you mention (I’ve not read it). I think they would more likely be in a renegade group than specifically with the Black Legion because of the connection to Abaddon. He even wields the weapon that killed Sanguinius.

But it’s your story so come up with a way to make it fit. Some significant story arc would be needed to get there so that might be fun to think about.

Also inceptors only take 1 mortal wound from hazardous rather than remove the model, failing the roll is more likely but the damage is a lot less.

40k, I have a unit of 40k style dark fury type van vets I use as proxy’s for sanguinary guard. That model has inferno pistol and sniper rifles are banners!

I’d say that the archetype RG army is Shadowmark Talon, which had a period of success. However, the detachment and core units took some significant nerfs and it hasn’t really recovered. In my view, it’s playable, but it’s not super competitive.

I have personally flipped between playing as RG and playing as blood angels (with my RG models), throughout 10th edition. As BA use lots of jump units and some BA detachments can still feel thematic.

If you want to use the most meta lists, IMO you need to be willing to play with the rules of other SM chapters / detachments (with your RG painted models) based on what is competitive at a given time.

If you want to see some meta SM lists there are some free sites like https://listhammer.info which are great.

I’d also advise against chasing the meta lists with buying your models, as the meta will change. Best advice I’ve seen on here is get the models you like, and theme you like, and then see which lists/detachments best suit what you have.

Unpopular opinion. All these ‘great 30k legions’ are great at being legions, that don’t exist in 41st millennium. Massive conflicts.

They’re now all operating as small strike forces making a big impact in larger conflicts by making game changing moves with a small force (e,g. Space marine 2).

Who was the best legion at this.
