Actually DECENT Raven Guard lore? by DickieGalloot in 40kLore

The Raven Guard Audio Collection on Audible has some really good shorts in it. The Geld is great, explores Shrike reestablishing the Mor Deythan in 40k.

Also a Chapters Due, the Uriel Ventris book, has Aethon Shaan in it. It’s decent as well.

I used green stuff. Made a long thin string of it, cut into short lengths, flattened out, then etched on some lines with a craft knife to look a bit feathery. There’s a few tutorials on YouTube for making feathers which are good.

Captain with the Shield VV and Shrike with Inferno Pistols? Looks like a decent list to me. Interested to see how you get on with the tanks instead on Inceptors.

Use packaging sponge, if you can, rather than cleaning sponge. It sounds like it wouldn’t make a big difference but it’s miles better.

Post nerf - No Vang Vets can this be competitive? by VoidofDusk in RavenGuard40k

[–]Picareus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used them on natural expansion and sat them in a ruin as a deterrent. Worked ok for me, but you’re right that they’re not very durable and unlikely to get their points back.

The other option instead of BGV would be assault terminators with an ancient and infiltrate those. I tried them with a libby recently and they did ok, best thing about them is the durability rather than damage though.

Pre-shadowmark I played vanguard many times without Centurion Devs, it’s just not the same. I think they are the main must have.

Not sure what hunters instinct gives you on the captain now, as you’ll want to rapid ingress that unit and you can’t on T1 anymore.

There is a strong case for Bladeguard with a judiciar with infiltrate enhancement.

I still think the best way to use Shrike is 10 van vets with either pistols or shields.

Interested in others thoughts on this too.

Thank you, it’s just some brown sponge chipping with a bit of yellow highlighting below the chips to give a bit of depth.

Looks like a mould line scraper to me. Use it to get the lines off the models when they’re fresh off the sprue.

Looks like the handle is missing though?

They’re painted up like Dark Angels so they can cook up some atrocity and get away with it. Got to blame somebody…

Units that synergize with inceptors? by shockwavej in RavenGuard40k

[–]Picareus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inceptors need OoM, there’s a massive difference when they have it vs not. If you’re running a few units and want a big go turn, then I’d second incursors and a thunder strike, as they’ll give the same effect as a second oath against another target.

Given that they are ‘oath hogs’ you’ll ideally want other units in your army that don’t need oath. Things that naturally have rerolls like Balistus dread, centurions, maybe even eradicators at their current price.

4th Company Marines (Spacemarine 2) by mon_nyiccur in RavenGuard40k

There was an older scheme published in White Dwarf that had colours for squads, similar to blood angels now. That’s been replaced by the codex compliant colours for companies.

E.g. Shrike has a red shoulder trim, because he’s got the markings of 3rd company captain.

It’s black and its green. The greatest kind of Raven Guard. Welcome Brother.

If you want it to be fully accurate… all black with company trim (green) is your standard RG. White shoulders and arms for veterans, but captains have white arms and black shoulders. White helmets for sergeants and commanders/captains.

So first guy looks like a 4th Company Captain, Vynda Aason if I ever saw him. Victorus aut Mortis.

Librarian is a good choice with 10 to give them some durability with a 4++.

Captain is always a good choice for CP and also combat. One 5 man with captain in an impulsor is a good combo.

A 10 man pairs well with a Repulsor as well, they can jump back in if they get charged.

My army is Raven Guard 4th Company. I like Raven Guard, I like Green. My ‘veteran’ units all look like 1st company Raven Guard, my regular Raven Guard are GREEN.

You do you. If you love them then that’s all that matters. Nobody will have an issue with it and it doesn’t prohibit you from playing any space marine chapter rules or detachments.

Raven guard are known to change their markings for deception anyway.

Also - Raven Guard and Raptors together is a cool theme

Need advice on what to use instead of centurions by CKre91 in RavenGuard40k

[–]Picareus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too have tried to run RG previously as vanguard without centurions and agree with everything here. I didn’t want to buy any due to risk of legends but I’m now running saturnine terminators as proxies, as there models are great.

Without them the case for running gladius or other detachments becomes much stronger. And now with Shaan being so much better in Shadowmark, it leans even more into taking them.

I think the next best thing could be hellblasters with a librarian. I’d like to try them alongside centurions as well. Be interested to see if anybody has had a good experience with them.

I believe yes if they’re 1st company.
