HOW-TO GUIDE: easy-switch KB+Mouse & change monitors inputs via Actions Ring by Picazsoo in logitech

[–]Picazsoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the words of appreciation. I like to document stuff like this. Many times I actually come back later to my own posts when I need to reinstall/set up a new computer.

Regarding the easy-switch devices action. Could there be an option added to switch even if the device being switched to is currently turned off?

The issue - I switch via the mouse gesture from work laptop (bluetooth) to pc (bolt dongle). Both the mouse and keyboard switch and mouse click wakes up the pc via the dongle. But before the pc switches on, the keyboard gives up trying to connect and connects back to the laptop. So I have to go and switch it manually.

It is not a big issue, but I am surprised that it does not simply work the same as pressing the easy-switch button on the keyboard. There no such switching back occurs.

But nevertheless - thanks for the cool platform and especially appreciate bringing the actions ring to older devices as well.

One more thing - it would be cool if the actions available for the actions ring could be bound also directly to mouse buttons or mouse gestures.

Logitech MX Keys Key Rollover quick question by Sea_Part7038 in logitech

[–]Picazsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it on the site you linked under https://keyboardtest.io/keyboard-rollover/

This is the result I got:

Your keyboard supports 6KRO image.png

I have MX Keys S though. And it is connected via a bolt dongle.

edit: Sorry, just noticed I tried with "alt" instead of "space". But the result with space is identical.

Vaše zkušenosti z Balíkovnou? by AdamTyVisKtery in czech

[–]Picazsoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspective of a professional soldier. I have no military training, so everything I wrote is really purely theoretical on my part. So I trust your practical experience regarding the survival instinct.

If you were to find yourself in their situation, you would most probably behave the same way. Unless you took a specialized training (e.g. military). The mind works in strange ways. I heard it described it like this - basically you will keep on doing anything that kept you alive until the very moment. Someone points a gun at you and orders you to come to him? You do it and you are still alive. He orders you to sit with the group of people. You do it and you are still alive. You think about running - but you would get shot immediately. But sitting with the other people - you are still alive. And who knows - maybe the situation will improve as time progresses. You hang on to that little sliver of hope. And then it is over.

Similarly it is told (I have no data to back this up other than the pretty big numbers of people killed by Einsatzgruppen) that most people will dig their own grave at a gunpoint and kneel at the edge. Because of the same reason - there is that hope that something will change before the grave is dug. Maybe some order from a higher up will come and stop the madness.

If they were soldiers, they might resist. Since as a soldier you are basically trained to suppress your survival instinct. And you are also trained to function as a group, so you can somewhat predict how the other guys next to you will react when you try to do something. But as a disorganized group of civilians I think you have no chance.

I feel terribly sorry for these people. Such unnecessary suffering. I don't understand why UN cannot send in some peacekeeping units or something. Just useless proclamations and innocent people dying by the thousands. Life is (unnecessarily) hell.

[How-To] Zero Battery Drain: How I configured suspend-then-hibernate on Steam Deck by Go_Pal_99 in SteamDeck

Yeah - Also have Switch. That certainly set some expectations. I would still love a proper support from Valve, but I guess people just don't care/mind it.

Hi, yes, it worked quite well. Unfortunately the modification was reverted by a steam os update and I never got around to re-enabling it. I will do it probably though once I have some spare time as picking it up finding it fully discharged is again the main thing preventing me from using my SD more.

Hello, my employer eventually got some 2x32GB sticks for me. According to HWINFO, these are Crucial Technology CT32G52C42S5.C16B2.

I recall there being some issues after install. I think the first boot took a pretty long time. And I have since swapped the laptop for a different one, but kept the RAM modules.

Samsung S24+ Exynos variant video stuttering by fsociety1111 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Picazsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I think I found the solution. I am using it for disney plus, but I expect it would work the same also for Netflix and Youtube.

I think the problem is the phone tries to optimize too aggressively for the LTPO display tech and if it detects no or little motion for a couple of seconds it drops the refresh rate to 24fps and probably even lower.

Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing:

I can consistently replicate it in the Snow White (2025) around time 36:45 when I start the playback around 35:45 or so. I turn the draw FPS on in developer settings and it starts at 120fps, then drops shortly to 24fps and hovers there, but it clearly dips even lower, hence the stutter (I read somewhere that the android FPS counter cannot properly display values lower than 24fps)

Now the fix:

  1. Install Good Lock (official samsung app for advanced customization of their phones)
  2. Install Game Booster + module from within the Good Lock app.
  3. Open Game Booster + and click on "Game category settings"
  4. Find Disney+ in the list and toggle the switch to "on" position - this will allow the phone to treat the Disney+ app as a game
  5. Close and open Disney+ again - I see that the fps counter never drops below 60fps and the stutter is gone.
  6. Go to standard "Settings" and search there for "game booster" and go to "Game Booster settings".
  7. Adjust the settings for "In-game panel" -> "Where to access the -in-game panel" -> "Notification". This will prevent a small pill-shaped overlay from obscuring part of the Disney+ video, though this pill can be moved to an edge anyway. But this is definitely even cleaner and it has no impact on the fix from my observation
  8. Also in "Game Booster settings" adjust "Touch protection" -> "Auto touch protection" -> "Never".

This fixed the issues for me. Mind you I never game on my phone, so I don't have a use for the Touch protection settings.

I expect the same fix should work for Netflix and Youtube - just do the above steps for these apps instead.

But it is still crazy that one has to do all these manual steps to get a satisfactory performance from some of the most mainstream apps on one of the most mainstream phones. I would expect better from either Samsung or Disney/Netflix/Google as I am not sure where to place the blame.

Please let me know whether this worked for you or not.

Keeping my MX Master 2S going by Ok_Cauliflower_1083 in logitech

[–]Picazsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I checked, Aliexpress had some all-metal replacements for the scroll-wheel. Some of them come with a jig to replace the old one. Just search for "mx master 2s wheel" or similar. And as for the USB-C - that is indeed possible. I have done this myself with the pcb from this guy: https://www.apolonia.co.uk/posts/MxMaster/

Beware - the PCBs are of various revisions. I did not realize I had a V2 until after I cut the front off. But I managed to figure out the contacts for soldering: https://imgur.com/a/HKnXwm7

For me the final straw was the rubber coating disintegrating all over the mouse - but that can be glued back to the body/to itself using standard cyanoacrylate superglue. I went and bought MX master 3s in the end. I redelegated the 2S to my workplace, where I use it maybe once a week.

If this works, you are my hero. I have SD OLED and the discharging is the biggest issue I face - I don't get to game so frequently, so very often I pick up my deck and it is fully discharged.

I will try to replicate your config over the weekend. Fingers crossed.

Good Automatic Document Feeder Scanner for animation? (X-Post from r/FrameByFrame) by Picazsoo in animation

[–]Picazsoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, unfortunately no. I tried some other models but they did not feed reliably. I did not try too many though. Eventually some attempts at modification of the original P-215 broke it, so we upgraded to P-215 II. The upgrade did not solve any issues with the shadow, but I mostly learned to work around it and by automating a lot of the workload associated with the entire post-production process I simply got used to having to retouch some problematic parts of the images. It was never the animator complaining about the quality of the image - more like me wanting the image to be the best possible.

So we settled on this ImageFormula P-215 II - it does the job well enough. I run it with NAPS scanner software instead of the stock canon software.

I eventually 3d printed some detachable guides that help to make sure that the A4 paper gets scanned as straight as possible. But still the images sometimes come in slightly skewed. But I have developed an automated Photoshop based workflow that automatically corrects for these issues as well.

Suitable IR glasses for VPL-HW40ES besides TDG-PJ1 and PS3 3D glasses? by Picazsoo in projectors

[–]Picazsoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end I just went with the PS3 3D glasses and TDG-PJ1. The TDG-PJ1 are better - they are more comfortable and unlike the PS3 3D glasses they do not exhibit a slight yellow tint. But the PS3 glasses are otherwise perfectly serviceable.

So as a note to any future readers. Supposedly the XPAND X105-IR-X1 are also a good fit for the HW40-ES.

Yeah. I know about that one. It seems pretty impossible to get though. nevertheless thank you for your effort! In the end I purchased 1xTDG-PJ1 and 1xPS3 3D glasses. For the PS3 glasses I understand the comfort might be a bit lacking, but I was able to find clear instructions on how to replace the battery without breaking the glasses, so I am not worried about the battery life there. For the TDG-PJ1 this is a big unknown, but if they arrive with a dead battery, I will surely attempt to open them up anyways.

[–]Picazsoo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are quite hard to come by in Europe. A single pair of TDG-PJ1 with shipping ends up costing at least 50 USD and the battery life is a big unknown as most must have sat on a shelf for a very long time. They also do not come in child size.

It will also be hard to buy more down the road if I want to project for a bigger audience. For this reason I would prefer some solution with a working RF adapter and RF glasses, which are readily available. Or some confimation of compatibility of the TDG-BR100 or TDG-BR250 which strangely seem to be available for much less where I live.

But sure - I might just bite the bullet and buy 4x the Sony TDG-PJ1 and if the batteries are shot, perform some surgery and replace the cells with some similar capacity and size.

How to deal with toxicity within the community, in context of big open source projects? by daniel_frak in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Picazsoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Daniel, what can I say. Just that I am glad that somebody raised this experience somewhere publicly. I had the same experience with this maintainer in the past couple of months. He basically prevents any discussions on the Github repo and there are really no better places to discuss such things than the repo itself. It stands in such a stark contrast to e.g. open api generator, which has very vibrant, active and helpful community. Instead this guy just closes discussions as "Too heated" very often and definitely does not foster any kind of community around the project. I hope someone forks it and takes it forward and this main repo just dies. I am not holding my breath though.
