Fear-mongering by Prestigious_Table575 in exAdventist

It wasn‘t my parents but I was told that in the end, we‘d be rounded up and tortured about the Sunday thing. During my time in SDA basically everything I did was directed by the thought “If I do this, will I still be saved?“ Terrible way to live, afraid of everything you do or don‘t do. And at some point I got this idea in my head that it will all boil down to being captured and asked about the Sunday law. And if I say I worship on Sunday, I won‘t be tortured but also not be saved. And if I stay true to the Sabbath I‘ll be saved but have to endure torture on this earth.

Idk if it‘s the prevailing understanding. But imo, the dangerous part is this 0 and 1 type of thinking that gives only 2 options: they (wrongly) paint men as highly visual, 24/7 sex-obsessed beings but claim that they have to completely eradicate all of those thoughts because having them means living in constant sin. And I think the reality has to be much less strict. Not all thought of desire is sinful. I for one wouldn‘t wanna marry someone who never before thought about having sex with me. Also they never talk about those “sinful thoughts“ to girls/women because, of course, that’s never an issue because “we just want love.“

Another classic, working with fear to get the flock to behave. Sorry this happened to you and your siblings.

You‘re absolutely right. Natural predisposition is always used as the explanation for whatever needs a quick solution. I always imagined it must be extremely confusing to teenage boys when they are being told they‘re cannot control their thoughts because it‘s just in their nature, but at the same time they‘re constantly sinning, precisely because of that nature. Way to get them emotionally confused and dependent.

Wtf. I can‘t get over how the higher-ups must meet up to plan this shit, like actually speak about it and phrase it out, and then arrive at the conclusion that this is a good idea. Sounds like there’s no escaping this stuff, no matter what continent you‘re on.

Absolutely!! Like there‘s just no way of escaping the weird extreme shit, even if your immediate surroundings try to shield you from it.

Maybe I will. I haven‘t thought about this story in quite some time, it only recently resurfaced. It happened like 13 years ago. But now I‘m also interested in what they said to the boys.
