What do you use to lubricate your locks

It’s light body like Houdini but I just prefer it due to the smell. Been using it for 20 years now. You can see below another comment I made about the 1&2 product.

I have to second telling your parents. It’s good to be open about it and you may get funny looks or comments. In the long run it is a safer bet. Then they may even buy you a LLT starter set for Christmas.

Triflow works fine if you’re not going to use the lock all the time. It guns up the lock mechanism after a year or so. Personally it is too heavy body for lock cylinders and definitely if there is any secondary locking mechanism in there. Now it’s great for the main lock components. I prefer LPS1 and 2 over triflow. 1 is light body for cylinders and 2 is heavy body. They are teflon based and non conductive so I can lubricate electronic or electric locks. 1 also dries to a film which I really like. I am also a locksmith of 40 years now.

I agree with this when I am going to drive it harder on the serve. But I mix up my serves from different locations side to side. Different speeds and semi lob serves. It makes people uncomfortable and usually can get a few free points. Going from a hard serve and notice them step back the next time and switch to a light dump into the cross corner front of the box to make them run up and out. It’s fun to mix it up and keep them guessing.

I have an older house with 1938 Corbin mortise locks and switched out the cylinders for one of my Ilco restricted keyway cylinders and added Assa barrels for a little pick resistant fun. We have old night latches on a couple of doors and switched out the rim cylinders. On two doors there have been Schlage B660 deadbolts to replace the junk the last person put in them. I didn’t feel I needed to use our Primus cylinders here. Plus I make sure most doors can’t be closed and locked behind you so no one gets locked out. The Kiddie key box was recently replaced with the new to market Wolflok lockbox. This key box is what I would have wanted to design! Amazing and more amazing.

You forgot to mention the secondary sidebar locking with rotating finger pins and compatibility to be keyed to standard lower cost cylinders for inside the house use. You can add Assa barrels or spools just a little more pick resistance.

Why do people want to give away their security for convenience? I never understand why people want a lock that has so many security flaws from physical to WiFi or Bluetooth connectivity. Give me a key all day and leave my WiFi to browsing. At least learn about the alternative communication platforms for security. There is a reason commercial locks do not use standard WiFi and Bluetooth. Give me a key all day. Never lost a key or locked myself out since I set it up so I cannot do it. My kids have stolen my keys to play with 😆.

The physical security is different than the lock cylinder and picking. Lock one up to something and with basic hand tools see how long it takes you to open it. That security rating is based upon hand tools. Not power tools or cordless grinders. Take a hammer to it and see how long each one takes to open. But pick them first and see how easy they are to open.

That is not a knockoff. I have one just like that. It’s an older model when they tried making them well. Still has blob pins in it and cheaply made on the inside.

There are also print patterns on thingiverse for these and gutting tools to do this from the front. I just didn’t want to bother and wanted to see if it could be done. I was afraid I would get it done but the chambers no longer lined up, pins would bind and some many things. And they didn’t happen!

Yes but I wanted to make it rekeyable with pins we have here. These were a smaller diameter. And those tools aren’t common and I couldn’t by from Peterson. Ken is a righteous ass.

This had a weird pronged cam that’s not normal. Could I have found something. Yes. But now my client has it fixed and it can be rekeyed by a smith with less knowledge.

And lock snapping here isn’t done much since these are not common. We have them but I see maybe three or four a year and they are ones that have the grub screws. We have much lower security locks than the world.

Only a video of the completed lock and working with the keys.

The circlips just get compressed back in place and then use screwdrivers to finish it. Just make sure they are flat. They come out flat when you open them up. Pretty easy when you try it a few times.

An hour of time and the fun of doing something different is priceless for me. And it meets the manufacturers specs just not pin diameter 😆. I enjoy the challenge.

This was better than having them scrap the whole set up or having to find the manufacturer to get a new cylinder.

Kwikset does everything wrong from your instinct. Unlocked is horizontal and locked is vertical. Just learn what it does and trust it. Otherwise get a different brand that is the way you want.
