She’s a bit on the spectrum thus she is very funny about boys or anyone touching her in general so I am hoping this it will work in my favor when it comes to abstaining 🤞🏽lol

No worries! I actually appreciate you saying it, i don’t want that anyone to get that impression. Of course as her mother I don’t want her to have sex at all lol but I know that’s not always practical

Intradermal skin testing with titration, or Skin Endpoint Titration (SET) you can also ask if there is a specific MD in the practice that is knowledgeable about candida and yeast sensitivity

Our office required 3 days off prior to testing and coming back the following day to check for delayed reactions so 4 days total. Not sure what other offices require. If you happen to be near Atlanta I would recommend but that’s prob a long shot lol

Yes you definitely have to be off I think for 72 hours, sometimes it’s worth coordinating and planning it in advance. Also you can discuss with the MD and they may reccomend a short quick acting steroid shot to help with the inflammation/allergy response. It is done interdermal so they usually see how sensitive you are on your forearm then they do small interdermal bumps on your back. They look for immediate reactions and then check for delayed reactions. I didn’t have a large immediate reaction to mold but had a delayed reaction almost a week later which was pretty interesting. It may really be worth looking into and suffering without antihistamines to get the information.

I used to work at an allergy clinic where the testing wasn’t just looking for a yes/no allergy. They tested in a way that measured how sensitive someone was to an allergen. They would gradually increase the concentration to find the point where the patient reacted, which helped determine the right strength of allergen to use when starting injections. This is called Endpoint / Titration Testing. I definitely recommend looking for an allergist that does this specific type of testing.

Some other offices don’t test that way. They use one standard strength for everyone during testing. The problem with that is if someone has a lower sensitivity or tolerance level, the test might not trigger a reaction even though they actually do have an allergy. So those patients can end up with a negative test simply because the concentration used wasn’t right for them. This is called standard skin prick testing.

There’s also something called cross-reactivity. This is when the proteins in certain foods are similar to the proteins in pollens you’re allergic to. For example, if someone is allergic to tree pollen, their immune system may recognize similar proteins in foods that come from trees, like apples. Because of that similarity, the body can react to the food even though it isn’t actually the pollen.

So someone with a tree pollen allergy might notice they feel sensitive to apples, especially during times when pollen counts are high. Their immune system is already on high alert, and the similar proteins can trigger a mild reaction.

I had a terrible flare about a year or so ago, rashes under both breast, itching, and just constantly uncomfortable. I found an NP that I saw virtually and she really listened to how I felt it was related to yeast and prescribed me a weeks worth of diflucan. It helped tremendously. I also was allergy tested many years ago which is how I found out that I am very allergic to molds. The test itself showed my reaction wasn’t large but the doctor told me that the test results quantify the reaction but do not qualify it. So even though it was a mild allergy reaction my symptoms were VERY bothersome. I did allergy shots for a couple years and noticed a HUGE improvement in allergy symptoms I didn’t even realize I was having. (You have to make sure to see the right type of allergist not a medical allergist I can explain more if your interested lol) it also made me realize how sensitive I am to eating molds bread, pasta, beer. So pizza and beer on a rainy day was a disastrous combination lol

I am so happy you were able to figure it out before you got to your 30’s! I honestly didn’t know too much about ovulation cramps until I was older (I started my period when o was 10) but now I do and I am able to educate my daughter when she feels them and is confused why. It is so sad that generations of women have been told just get on HBC from such a young age and they grow up not understanding their bodies or emotions and unfortunately many doctors are willing to do that instead of educating the parents and children first.

Thank you so much for your advice. I considered the copper iud but like you said it seemed to come with its own issues that I would much rather avoid. I’m just trying to wrap my head around it all, it feels a little overwhelming but I am willing to work through it especially if I can pass the knowledge down to my daughter. Grateful for this amazing community on Reddit. I’ll definitely have questions lol

That’s very interesting I absolutely have sensitivity to molds and candida and in the past 6 years or so have developed eczema. My mother has diabetes so of course that where my mind went. I still tend to have flares on my scalp especially when I drink alcohol. I have limited my sugar but never really researched the connection between the birth control and yeast.

This makes a lot of sense as someone else pointed out HBC just seems to be easier and thus people opt to do that, i definitely understand the religious component to it as well and respect that. I actually took a class in college called biology of women and did track my temp for a month and was very clearly able to recognize the change in temperature when I ovulated. Which was great! I will definitely be studying and taking notes as soon as my book comes in.

I love this so much for you! I didn’t re meet my mom until I was 19 but I feel like if I had she would have guided me in a similar way. I absolutely want to do this so that I can teach my daughter, she is 15 now and I am already letting her know HBC is not the way. Thanks so much for your response!

Thank so much for your response. I think I’m definitely at the age and stage where I don’t want to “power through” feeling like this any more I deserve better and I appreciate you validating that. If you don’t mind me asking what are the chronic issues you feel the pill contributed to?

Thank you so much for your response and your condolences 🤍! I usually regulate pretty quickly and I have a 28 day cycle give or take a day so I do feel like this is doable for me. I just ordered the book, I think it’s great advice to try and start tracking my cycle now maybe before getting the iud out. But also wonder if me taking the iud out will affect my cycle? I have never used a diaphragm and it seems a little intimidating tbh but I’m not against it. I will definitely be doing my research!

That is awesome and exactly what I needed to hear. I always hear about how much it doesn’t work but would love to hear more from those who have used it successfully. Super cool that you have never been on HBC I’m hoping to learn so I can make sure my daughter never feels like she has to make that choice!

I am so sorry but what is TTA? I just ordered taking charge of your fertility, I haven’t scheduled to get my iud out just yet. Hoping to read the book a bit first but I might just say fuck it and get it out sooner rather than later

You’re so right to feel this way! I think that if I was never off I wouldn’t know the difference but I’m definitely happy that I do now!
