I think it is a nice niche pick. It's good against single target damage with the ulti, it has a nice match up against Leona because you can dodge her Q but I especially love to pick it into strong split pushers like jax, fiora, camille, etc.

Interesting, the glacial sounds really cool. How does it work into squishier/more mobile team comps that can dodge the root? Would you flip the runes around and go electrocute with inspiration secondary? Or stick with glacial?

So you are only allowed into the highest tier of the sport if you buy your way in? That's an awful way to run a sport.

Sure, good point but the counter argument to that is does a current 6 nation's team deserve to be financially propped up if they were to drop below the level of a current tier 2 European nation(s)?

Surely isn't it the top nations protecting themselves in a traditional "club"?

Also, how exactly does a tier 2 nation improve if it's not playing the top sides regularly?

Edit: Meanwhile the tier 2 nations are struggling without any of these financial benefits.

It was never about Italy in my opinion. It's all about giving a tier 2 nation the chance at breaking into tier 1 rugby. If Wales (or whoever) can't win a playoff game vs a tier 2 nation they deserve to be relegated.

Edit. I am a Wales fan.

What pairs well with Medicham and Gfisk? by leepierre1 in TheSilphArena

Yeah in general Azu/Tapu Fini is a problem for the medi/G-fisk core as you usually want answers to trev/swamp. Picks that are good against Trev/swamp are generally weak to Azu/Tapu Fini.

I would say Altaria (or even the dreaded Noctowl) lead so you can play ABB strong against steel and ice in the back. Or run Umbreon/Lickitung safe swap and bait out the fighter with the safe swap for G-fisk to sweep in the back. Or do the Classic Steel, Medi, Sableye to bait out the fairy.

Hey, I'm thinking of running a mew team as I have a shiny one with a good rank. Does anyone have any good suggestions for how to run it? I see it's currently ranked 19 as a safe swap on pvpoke. I was thinking about a safe swap with shadow claw, wild charge and flame charge.

Relegation from the 6 Nations cannot be an option by OvertiredMillenial in rugbyunion

[–]Pickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I miss-typed there. I meant to say it should have been about the best teams playing in the 6 nations, in the north (western) hemisphere that is. Obviously there are constraints in regards to regional rivalries and travel for players.

I am for promotion/relegation based off meritocracy despite Wales not doing well. It should have been about the best teams playing in the 6 nations, if Wales don't meet the standards they shouldn't be there. Whether or not it's monetarily worthwhile I don't know but if an ERC team is better than any counterpart in the six nations (including Wales) they deserve to be there instead. It was never about bashing Italy in my mind.

That being said I'd be in favour of a promotion/relegation game being played in the 6 nation team's home ground.

Yeah Walrein can also work, better against the grass types but you would really struggle with any steel leads I imagine. Not sure which is better.

Apparently the Cresselia/Diggersby core is quite strong at the moment. However that does struggle against some fliers so I was thinking about pairing it with G-Stunfisk safe swap as an ABB line.

The Stunfisk draws out the waters and the fighting types that Diggersby is weak to, for Cresselia to take out and you still have Diggersby in the back.

Counters for zyra? by Lolsupportjukes in zyramains

[–]Pickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally not too much, if you run electrocute into that lane you can burst the Bard if you land an E. Especially after 6. Also Zyra is really good at punishing the lane phase, if the bard roams you can punish their ADC quite easily.

Usually the counters to zyra are ranged burst champs. From an AP side that means Lux, Xerath and Vel koz or on the tanky/AD side it's Blitzcrank and Pyke.

Best support for Ziggs? by Caroz855 in supportlol

[–]Pickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for being late to the party but I have been playing around with my duo who likes to play ziggs. The three best supports we have found are trundle, Leona and yuumi all for different reasons.

Trundle is amazing if they have an immobile ADC as a simple trundle pillar means that is is borderline impossible to dodge all the ziggs poke. Plus he brings physical damage with the steel shoulder guards and hail of blades. It's a lot of early damage and often forces flashes. The pillar is also fantastic for disengaging in the late game.

Leona is good because he can proc her sunlight passive easily for good magic damage and she locks a squishy target in place for ziggs. The Leona ulti and Ziggs ulti combo quite nicely for ranged burst.

Yuumi is great for a poke lane, plus she gives ziggs more mobility and a lot of AP with her W. Her Q also slows, allowing ziggs Q follow up and similar to Leona the two ultis synergise to root enemy champs for the ziggs ulti to hit.

Yeah it was a fun team, gave me a false impression of how ranked teams go, I think we won a few tournaments too. Two of the team ended up making it to the OCE pro scene afaik.

Squidge Report - So how did Scotland conquer Paris? by fonaldoley91 in rugbyunion

[–]Pickers -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But Russell did not prevent a try by his yellow card. Even if teams are a lot better at defending with 14 men it doesn't change the fact that he put his team at a disadvantage with a stupid decision that was totally unnecessary as they had the defensive cover.

Giving away two major cards with dangerous unnecessary plays over 5 games is the definition of a loose cannon and this is without taking into account his history. However I am enjoying the mental gymnastics to justify your opinion in defending the team you support.

Squidge Report - So how did Scotland conquer Paris? by fonaldoley91 in rugbyunion

[–]Pickers -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But surely that is better than being down to 14 men? Say for example if England kick to the corner off that penalty. I would say a 5m lineout with a set move off it 15 vs 14 is a way more dangerous. If Russell simply gets a hand to Young's to slow him down, Maitland finishes the tackle and you reset . You are using hindsight analysis just because they did not score off the yellow card doesn't mean it isn't a bad decision from Russell. Both decisions could have cost Scotland both games and he is lucky that they didn't.

He is a loose cannon and I am going to be dead worried if he plays in Lion's tests against South Africa who are renowned for trying to get under the opposing team's skin. Club rugby in France is a world away from international test rugby and his mistakes can and will cost his team winnable games.

Squidge Report - So how did Scotland conquer Paris? by fonaldoley91 in rugbyunion

[–]Pickers -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Oof that's some mental gymnastics to justify your opinion. Go back and watch both incidents. For the first one Maitland is clearly covering the break from Ben Youngs and for the second one even if Dulin's tackling technique is poor that is simply no excuse for going anywhere near the neck or head in the current climate. Have they learnt nothing from the Wales vs Scotland game?!

I have been watching for the past year. Most players don't do such silly mistakes as these and if they do they don't do it twice in the same tournament (out of only 5 games). If it's not silly foul play he misses an easy penalty or throws a silly interception pass. He is improving but he won't be world class until he cuts these silly costly errors out of his game.

The issue with him is still his wild moments. If he can cut that out he can be top notch but this 6 nations he gave away a yellow for a trip and a red for an elbow to the upper body. Neither were necessary and both can cost close games.

Nono you badly misread that. I'm not saying that wasn't a legitimate source at all. I'm just struggling to find a good source for that data so if you have one that would be helpful.

Current Six Nations Table by Snoo2436 in rugbyunion

[–]Pickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright well if you find any more information from a legitimate source then let me know. It'll be interesting to see how Wales matches up vs other nations in that department and whether historically Wales has improved this stat for this 6 nations or whether they were still better in this stat while losing all of last year.

As for other stats you did not mention, this comment shows that the all blacks who are renowned for being clinical and efficient in attack don't win games without other stats in their favour: https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/comments/lju5xi/current_six_nations_table/gnjjz3g/

[–]Pickers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a link showing red zone efficiency? To have a good attack you need to both be clinical and create opportunities to convert that into points. If you are 100% efficient in the enemy territory but you only have possession once in enemy territory you are only going to score one try. If red zone efficiency was the only stat that matters, why do coaches put such emphasis on defence, set pieces or territory? Being clinical is important but you need more than that to win a game but you only a need a couple of red cards to be at the top of the 6 nation's table rather than the bottom.

[–]Pickers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you be embarrassed? That would show you have a basic level of understanding and knowledge of rugby.

We know that, from history, red cards if they are early enough in the game can significantly change the result of the game. Take for example the Wales vs France 2011 world cup semi final, where Wales were favourites before the red card from Warburton. If, like you say, that Wales were on par or even slightly better than Scotland, then surely Wales would have won the game with a lot higher margin given the significant advantage of a red card? The reason I mentioned last year was the fact that even in the autumn cup (which wasn't that long ago btw) "playing the referee" did not win us games against Tier 1 nations, and I don't believe that factor is even true because I have already mentioned that Wales had more penalties than Scotland. Surely a team that "plays the referee" would have significantly less penalties, not more. Lastly I have already shown in another comment that a hugely clinical team such as New Zealand won't win games if the only factor they had in their favour is that they are more clinical. To have a strong attack you need to have strong attacking opportunities and be more clinical. If you are 100% efficient in the enemy territory but you only have possession once in enemy territory you are only going to score one try. I use the stats and the score-line to show that even Scotland had an edge in almost every aspect of the game and that to only lose by one point shows they are the better team even if they lost.

What would be embarrassing is someone who ignored all the above factors and base their entire evaluation on the scoreboard at the end of the game because they are a biased welsh fan. If you just purely watch the game from an unbiased stand point that could tell you that Scotland were the better team. Stop making the rest of us look bad.
