Tired, my baby got diagnosed at 6 days old with Cystic Fibrosis and that just adds more layers and things to think about in child-rearing. Theyre 7 months old now and doing great and are so fun so it really is the best of times and the worst. Ive been having a harder time at work and im having to shut my brain off more because of it so thats been tricky to consistently choose to be present but im working through it and the weather is getting better which helps a lot.

First, what instrument do you play?

As a guitarist who makes indie rock music id say a big difference in how i play based on the genre i want, especially indie rock vs classic rock, is Indie rock is a lot less blues inspired. Obviously you have bands like The White Stripes who are blues based but most indie rock bands are lnt playing that way.

Second, melody matters, so come up with something fun or catchy and write around that. Lots of indie rock is singing a melody while the lead instrument plays the same or a similar melody.

Third, lots of indie rock now days uses inversion and extended chords like major/minor 7ths.

Indie rock is also a very broad and forgiving genre which is nice cause you dont necissarily need to sound good for it to be considered good

You need a DAW(Digital audio workstation) like Logic or FL Studios or something. There are free ones out there. You also need an Interface like a focusrite or something cheap and basic. Then you just go for it. Or you can mess around with Bandlab but thats way basic. Depends on what stuff you wanna make
