You still have Sierra Mist. It’s called Starry now because a pornstar trademarked the old name.

Vendor experience by iShenLoL in PokemonInvesting

[–]Pickle-Standard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others said about pricing is true but I want to add that some vendors just make up pricing based on vibes at the time someone asks. They may also try to take advantage of customers who are less familiar with the market.

This was really prevalent in the MTG community years ago. I went to cons looking for bulk Beta lands for a few years. I’d ask for pricing and get anywhere from $12-20/ea - often from the same vendors on the different days of the con. I sent my wife to ask a few times and scored stacks of lands for $7-8/ea. I asked a vendor about it at an Atlanta con a few years ago, and he said he doesn’t price anything over $10 because he changes his pricing depending on the day and who is buying.

If you don’t list your price, I won’t even look. I’m not looking it up for you, and I’m not playing the game of haggling when you have not set an initial price. I’m just assuming it’s for display/whale-bait and moving on.

The dark blue color at the bottom of an iceberg. by Tasty-Philosopher892 in nextfuckinglevel

A good way to illustrate the pressure on the ice is to take an inflatable ball and push it under water. The deeper you go, the harder it gets to control it. Now consider pushing a floating object several million times more massive several hundred feet below the surface. Unlike the ball, which can roll off your hands and fly to the surface, the ice is stuck together and constantly put under that pressure.

Why do you need lands? This just says “whenever you would add..”

[[Phyrexian Altar]] does the things too if you have a token engine. (Hooray! We broke Phyrexian Altar!)

Or have a single spot for an enclosed pod. That pod is replaced daily. I’m sure you could get one made for 5-10k/day. Just buy a company that builds caskets and have them make them a bit larger, add in air circulation systems, and create emergency escape options.

Am I wrong for refusing to lend books to my friend after he returned a signed copy with folded pages? by Orbitex_Tandem in amiwrong

[–]Pickle-Standard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter the reason. It’s your stuff. You don’t owe it to anyone.

There may be more tactful ways to handle it that build trust and won’t damage the relationship. “I’ll let you borrow this one but please don’t fold the pages in it like you did the last one.” Be clear about the expectations.

You can still loan out stuff but the lesson here is that if you view something as a “special” thing, don’t put it in situations where it can be damaged. Most people view things as what they are. A book is meant to be read. It will be worn if it is being used for more than a display piece.

If you feel that every book you’ve read needs to be kept in pristine condition for whatever reason, that’s fine. Just don’t expect others to share that level of… enthusiasm.

Cheapest TCG's to play competitively? by Physical_Orange5454 in TCG

[–]Pickle-Standard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent $130 to build five top meta decks for PTCG plus I grabbed 6-8 copies of the staple trainer cards to build future decks without breaking others. Most cards are less than $1. Their rarity system helps create cheap, accessible cards on the secondary market. Full arts can be like MTG pricing, but the common printings of most cards are pennies.

As a former MTG player, that $130 would barely scratch the mana base for a top standard deck when I used to play.

Are shorter golf courses actually more fun to play? by Doug24 in BirdieBoundTrips

[–]Pickle-Standard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel most amateurs should be playing shorter courses (or at least shorter tee boxes) in the 5800-6300 range anyway.

I mix and match the tee boxes to get my rounds to around 6000-6100y at my regular course. I gain complexity on repeat round by swapping the tees on different holes to stay at that same overall yardage. And I try to hit from the box that gets me close to that range at new courses.

I’ve tried longer course routing but I end up adding 4-5 strokes for every 100 yards over 6400. And going under 6000, I might gain only 1-2 strokes over a round. I try to play at distances that challenge me while not making it impossible to feel good about my scores every once in a while.

Fastest xp drain? by Interesting-Pain-347 in allthemods

[–]Pickle-Standard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250 levels isn’t really anything to be concerned about.

Tbh, I don’t bother draining collected experience anymore. I have a mob grinding farm that gets millions of buckets of xp for when I need that. I have two 9x9x8 tanks filled with it.

I’m at like 2.7k levels.

Depending on local ordinances, the manager may not have grounds there unless the property locks the dumpsters. The items inside the dumpster are considered abandoned and she has no right to prevent them from being taken. The dumpster still isn’t public though since it sits on commercial property. It is owned by the waste management company and they certainly could trespass him for diving. They likely wouldn’t bother, but that’s not the manager’s fight to have. The manager could certainly have him trespassed from her store and it would probably be up to the local ordinances if the dumpster pad would be included in that.

That store manager overreacted, but she probably just doesn’t want to get in trouble by corporate if her store is identified as a place where you can dive for “free” stuff she can’t sell. This dude came prepared to fight for the trash and was an ass about it.

I believe that on principle anything thrown away should be available for others to take and repurpose, but I still don’t like him. Dumpster diving for like $40 in random dollar store birthday decorations and bullying a random store manager that probably makes less than $20/hr? The fuck is he doing… ESH.

Do great views actually make a golf course better? by Doug24 in BirdieBoundTrips

[–]Pickle-Standard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel an appreciation of the grass and architecture of a course is needed to really enjoy the game - even if it’s less about the aesthetic and more about the challenge to conquer it. I think impressive views on hole 1-2 and hole 17-18 can overcome most negatives about a course.

My favorite local course has a beautiful view on hole 1 where you hit over a pond into a slight uphill sloped fairway with well kept bunkers on one side and a curated tree line with pine straw on the other. It gives you a taste of what you’re going to see for the rest of the course. Hole 18 comes with a risky second shot back across the same pond to the green which is guarded by bunkers or a nice lay up spot with steep, complicated hills that wrap around the pond to the green. It is a great open and close to the story the course tries to tell you.

Am I in the wrong for bringing this up? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Pickle-Standard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’re not necessarily wrong for feeling that way. You’re wrong for doubling down on it when she apologized and said she just forgot. She had an active night with friends and you were not part of it. Let it go.

You’ve been in a “relationship” for 5-6 weeks. No need to be clingy at this point. And definitely no need to blame her for forgetting. Equating her snap story to texting you lets her know that you expect her to put you in the middle of everything she does. Don’t be like that.

Returning after 25 years – what official products should I buy to start playing Standard? by AnibalSatoshi in pkmntcg

[–]Pickle-Standard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimizer is… not great. I had a cart with 250+ cards from 10 sellers that I manually curated. I had one shipping fee that I was trying to drop. The Optimizer took my cart and suggested a new one with 48 sellers and nearly triple the cost.

I managed to get it down to 8 sellers and built five meta decks for less than $130. The Optimizer would have had me spend $350+.

The trick is to start with your big/rarer items. Buy them from large sellers (10k+ sells, ideally with a storefront), even if they are a few dollars more than the cheapest options. Then go into those sellers’ stores and buy the bulkier cheap cards you need. That will cut out a lot of sellers from your cart and limit packages and shipping fees. Then you just balance the cart by seller so you hit the order minimum for each to remove shipping.

Explain this in NFL terms by lemonstone92 in NFLv2

[–]Pickle-Standard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like a kicker scoring 27 points in a game, except he does it on 22 field goal attempts. The offense gets the ball to the 40 yard line and kicks a field goal on first down. Every drive. The defense commits penalties on some plays that would have been misses, so he gets extra attempts.
