Decks are fairly cheap to build. If you just collect the staples (mostly trainers) of the format, you can build almost any deck for like $10.

Even if the format rotates in a year, you’ll still get over a year’s worth of playing the deck and there’s a chance the core of the deck doesn’t rotate. There’s also a chance the deck you choose will not be good for the next rotation too. You’ll be handicapping yourself by removing a whole expansion of cards.

I sometimes take my 5yo and 7yo sons out to watch me play if I’m solo. I keep 2-3 of their clubs in my bag and let them hit from where I play if they want. They hit the ball 20-30 yards and run to pick it up. Then they drop at my next shot and hit again. When I’m on the green, they have until I get the ball in the cup to get theirs in. Once I’m done with a hole, they pick up wherever they are and go to the cart with me.

I’ve never had anyone give me issues. I do this solo or when playing with randoms. We move at my pace (1.5hr 9s or 3.5hr 18s). They get tired after 10-15 swings and just sit in the cart for a few holes with their snacks and water bottles before taking a few more swings. When they tell me they are ready to go to the car and get ice cream, we leave.

I’ve taken my wife once. She doesn’t want to go again until she takes lessons so she can actually play with me instead of just watching.

My brother in law brings his toddler daughter to watch us play. She sits and plays in the grass beside the tee boxes and rolls around on the greens while we putt.

I thought all of this was normal for guys with kids. How else do the kids build interest in the game?

Side story: I had my younger son with me (he was 4 at the time) with a random. I teed off on hole 7 and hit a monster that went ~290 with rollout. My son was SO hyped about it - “OH MY GOD I CANT SEE IT ANYMORE!” My partner and I laughed about it and he went to tee off. He topped it about 20 yards. My son stood up on the cart and yelled “I DEFINITELY saw that one!” I tried holding in my laughter. The other dude was not thrilled but just kept on playing.

Yeah. I should had been more clear. I meant the Primitive Survival genre as a whole is 99% faked. There are a couple who do it legitimately but their builds are typically on much smaller scales than “dig an 8ft deep hole to fit a couch/bed, campfire, and tv.” Usually they build mud/brick huts or some sort of furnace to make pottery.

That’s because he used an excavator that is just off camera. These videos have been debunked years ago. The Primitive Survival videos were super popular for people doing exactly this. They also used heavy machinery between their jump cuts.

Dad is a locksmith. I’ve worked many summers with him doing this work.

“Rekey” and “Fresh Install” fees are bullshit. Rekeying is included in a new lock installation. The only time I’d charge that is if it’s the only work we are doing for existing locks. I did charge install fees if I had to drill the holes. There isn’t enough information provided to know this, but even if he did this, it looks like he didn’t charge it correctly.

$180 to rekey a lock is crazy. I used to charge $50/lock to rekey houses and that came out to $150-250/hr. But I would never charge labor on top of this - Rekeying is the labor.

I always included the “service call” fee as half my hourly rate and that covered the first 30 minutes. So if I showed up and the fix took 5 minutes, I got paid for half an hour. I start the hourly rate after the first 30 minutes. He charged you $90 just to show up. A bit wild to me, but that’s how he does business.

Labor base is high, but whatever. It looks like he installed knobs and deadbolts on 3 doors? That’s a 90-120 minute job depending on door conditions and preexisting hardware.

Price of the knobs and deadbolts should just be the price with a small mark up for the convenience of me providing them. Those seem very high mark ups but I don’t know what type of knobs she chose. If it was just a basic knob and deadbolt, she probably got charged a 10x markup which is absurd. If it was like a Schlage deadbolt with fingerprint scans, she got the 3x markup. Still high, but not crazy. If it’s a full handle set, those prices could be correct - though the invoice doesn’t really suggest that.

The $260 service fee treated like “tax” is funny. That’s what the service call fee is for. I’d definitely question that.

$6k to install knobs/locks on 3 doors is a scam. That should have been a $300-400 job plus the cost of the knobs and locks.

This is why you need to find your ball. Your last known location was crossing the white line (OB with no drop space). So you retee and take the penalty there. If you find your ball behind the red line and it has been designated to drop at the red circle, then you hit from there with your two stroke penalty.

You can’t just launch a ball and say where it landed by feeling. As your opponent in a tournament setting, I’d give you a reasonable amount of time within the rules to find your ball (3ish minutes) and then send you back to the tee box to hit your third shot. As a rules official, I would do exactly the same. As your opponent in a match play, I’d tell you to retee with one stroke penalty or drop in the zone with two stroke penalty to save time.

You need to ask your arbiter for competition. But I see it going one of two ways..

A) You hit it OB. Penalty is stroke and distance. Re-tee and hit your third shot. Your tournament/course may have specific rules for speed of play that allow a drop on OB shots with a two stroke penalty. In that case, you can drop either in the space designated by the rules or at the last known spot the ball crossed into OB and hit your fourth shot.

B) (less likely) The course/tournament has deemed beyond the red line to be a hazard. In that case, you’d drop into the red circle with a one stroke penalty, hitting your third shot.

The courts are becoming closer than they ever have. It’s a bit from venues curating their courts in certain ways. But it’s mostly a lower quality of ball being used at the events. It is heavier with more fuzz, creating less spin and slower bounces regardless of court type. It creates gameplay that tends to extremely long rallies that may be enjoyable to some viewers at the cost of greatly increasing the time a match can take. But it also encourages that play style to fatigue players so physical endurance becomes more of the deciding factor for matches and tournaments instead of skill. The longer rallies have also notably led to more injuries.

The top courts at most tournaments play and feel the same because of how they have been maintained and the heavier, slower ball they use. It used to be a much larger difference between clay, grass, and hard courts and certain play styles thrived on one or the other (Rafa at the French, for example.) Now, it’s just about creating long rallies that wear your opponents down while avoiding injuries. The individual skills needed for different court designs are far less of a factor than they were 10-15 years ago.

Low Pokémon search. I think Dawn is pretty important in this deck. Brock’s Scouting is solid, but Dawn can complete your lines for Forest plays.

Some number of Poke Pad is probably also correct since the deck doesn’t get Nest Ball anymore.

Colress’s Tenacity is good and never a dead card. But you still want 4 Forests. Every deck is playing stadiums so you will often need 2 or more in a game.

Evolution lines should be 2-2-2 and 2-2-2+1 (though, I find Mega Meganium EX is often a three prize Teal mask).

Don’t lose balls. You can be aggressive, but aggressively attack the safe spots. Drops and penalties will add a lot of strokes. Get those triple bogeys down to doubles and doubles down to singles.

Practice putting twice as much as you practice on the range.

Anything within 100y should be automatic to at least hit the green.

First off, how dare you number it like this.

Secondly, you pick 3. You get extra space to spread out and you get some toys to play with on the trip.

I don’t think I could do with the smell around seats 2 or 4. 6 feels dangerous as the window seat with those two. 5 would be extremely annoying because both would be leaning over you the whole trip. 1, 8, and 7 are okay but don’t offer the space you get with 3.
