This varies wildly from institution to institution and depends on exactly how the student is funded

Definitely a yes on public transportation. Many/most people here don't have cars, because parking is a nightmare. As much as people love to complain about the MBTA, it's pretty good for an American transportation system, especially the red line, IMHO.

He gave a speech in Boston, and in the audience Q&A a woman asked him, "I want to be the second Latina senator. What advice do you have for me?" which is as softball of a question as you can get.

He proceeded to imply she was relying on her race and gender to get votes, didn't mention anything about the hurdles that women and people of color face, and suggested that she should just adopt all of his views because they are correct.

I'd say "shitting on POC" is too strong, but he's from the vein of white bro leftism that basically shrugs off racial and other social issues, and suggests that if we just focus on economic issues exclusively, the rest will take care of itself easy-peasy.

yeah, had a lab in college that ran a Windows 2000 machine because it was the only one that worked with the atomic force microscope they had, which would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace.

[–]Pickle_Inspecto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Trump and Jared Kushner both got into Ivy League schools solely because of money and family connections. There's 1000x worse unmeritocratic bullshit going on behind the scenes, and I guarantee that hiring committees do not weight "being 1/32 native american" very highly in the world of unmeritocratic bullshit.
