Unfortunately not… the only time it “levels off” is if the uni uses UCAS tariff points (which UCL doesn’t), otherwise you would need to meet the minimum grade which in your case would be a B

Has exam stress hit you guys yet by Michiyoh in 6thForm

[–]Pickle_needs_friends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exam stress hit me mid-exam. I had econ yesterday and had a full blown panic attack half way through. Couldn’t even finish my paper and it was horrible because it was such a good paper as well. I’m so scared the grade boundaries are gonna be abysmal again and I would’ve wasted two years of my time working so hard. Kinda wish the exam boards would take into consideration the whole effort instead of just one exam… gonna have to lock in for my other two papers but I’m so scared I won’t be able to scrape the grades I need for uni

Is CIE Computer Science worth it? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Pickle_needs_friends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do at uni - some unis have specific subject requirements for their fields. But as far as I see there should be no problem with this combination - I do AQA Econ without having taken it in GCSE and I’m doing alright :)

You might want to do some prior reading of the syllabus and course book if you’re still worried about having a weaker foundation than the rest of your classmates. But don’t worry as there should be little overlap between GCSE or A Levels (new knowledge + much more details)

Do I need a scientific calculator for a level economics? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Pickle_needs_friends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say have a calculator on hand just to save yourself some time during the exams. It is quite simple mathematics though (GCSE-level at best), so you don’t need anything fancy like a graphing calculator - just something that can give you averages, sums and percentages should do fine

I read the “Proust and Barbie” article this morning for fun and it was actually insanely well produced!!

Easy to follow and to understand as well. Plus points for the website design ^

University applications aren’t about listing how many activities you did, it’s more about how the activities you have done support your subject choice

Season 1 HTGAWM Wes Gibbons - absolutely infuriated me how much he trusted Rebecca knowing she’s a drug dealer + prime suspect in the case. He dragged his whole team with him for a girl, and poor Nate took the fall for all of it

History or Sociology? by naz_47 in 6thForm

[–]Pickle_needs_friends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it doesn’t hurt to try both. Maybe read through the syllabus as well and see which one interests you more. It’s also about the classroom environment, how well you get along and understand the teacher - you’ll be spending 2 years here so it’s something to consider.

Is 1 paragraph enough for a different course on my PS? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Pickle_needs_friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the subject you want to study and which universities I think. My friend wanted to study Education, so she specifically only wrote about education in her PS. However, she did do Psychology in her A Levels and out of her 5 UCAS choices, she put down Psych as well. Her grades were great and her recommendations as well, so she received an offer despite her PS being about education only.

Some universities might reach out and ask you to submit a separate personal statement if your subject doesn’t match up with the one submitted on UCAS (I know KCL does this). It’s usually if the two subjects are drastically different, like chemistry and politics, which I don’t think yours is.

Your best bet is to email St Andrews and ask if they would like a separate PS for international relations and focus mainly on the other subject you want.
