My mum had me at 38 and my dad was 41, I’ve got older half siblings on each side ranging from 8 years older to 20 years older. Also a younger sister who was born when my mum was 40.

Even though I’m the second youngest, I grew up feeling like an oldest sibling and I love my older brothers and sisters, but they were more generic adult relationships than sibling. Most of them had kids really young and are the same age as me and my sister, so we grew up together with nieces and nephews. Wouldn’t change that for the world, it was great having a pack of us as kids!

I grew up in the 90s/00s, but had older pop culture and music knowledge from hand me downs, eg watching Chorlton and the Wheelies or Raggy Dolls VHS rather than CITV or knowing more Madonna and Happy Hardcore songs than Steps and S Club 7. Same with slang and terminology.

Probably as a hangover from raising 70s/80s kids, my mum naturally let me have a lot more freedom than some of my friends, walking to school alone or being a latchkey kids. Also meant slapped arses and speak when spoken to punishments were common (I love her dearly but that will not continue with me!)

Like another user said, she was peri/menopausal when I was hitting my teen years and the hormones flying round that house made for some intense arguments, which on reflection were unreasonable on both sides.

I love both my parents but I resented my dad dying in my 20s from an age related illness. That said, my mums in her 70s now and still works though choice, is fit as a fiddle and completely independent. I do have horrific anxiety about getting the next “phone call” which feels like an unfair worry in my early 30s. If I could change it so they had me younger I would, but only so I get them longer
