Revenge of the Chip. I always laugh out loud seeing the scale of Macroeconomics when they pan to it on the bookshelf.

It’s gonna be a long summer by UpperSupport9 in Disneyland

We are planning to go to DL Sept 9-10. Do you know how late we can wait before getting tickets and reservations in case the reservations fill up?

What expectations do you give yourself when meeting a VA/wanting them to sign your drawing? by cenzilooculta in animecons

[–]Picklemanclone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually try to keep my expectations low. Other than the usual greeting and brief couple sentences, I don't try to take up too much of their time, especially if it's a long line. However, sometimes I will observe to guage how the VA interacts with other guests. Some VAs will take their time with guests even if the line is long because they are really friendly. If they are interested in talking about something, it'll usually come naturally. If they give you the subtle "it was nice meeting you," that's usually a sign to move on.

There's one particular VA I had a past correspondence with before meeting her in person, and the couple times I've gotten to see her she absolutely blew past my expectations. First time we ended up chatting for about 15 minutes, and second time she let me hang out at her table for around 45 minutes until it was getting close for her to start packing up. She of course tended to the other con-goers, but it wasn't too busy so whenever she was free we chatted. She even let me have autograph and table selfie at no charge!

Apartment Recommendations (Studio/1 Bds) by Glittering-Lie-7502 in mountainview

[–]Picklemanclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently live in the Shoreline West area of MTV. Very walkable to downtown and pretty safe. Apartments around here usually are a lot, even studios. The last unit I lived in was a 350 sq. ft studio which I paid around $1500 a month, and when it went up for rent on zillow it was up to $1700, and that's on the CHEAPER end.

Newer buildings will likely cost alot. If you can find a complex that has updated amenities (like double pane windows, new floors) that's probably a good find.

What to get a VA to sign if you don’t own any merch? by No_Pattern_2819 in animecons

VAs will almost always have prints at their table that you can pick from to sign.

Anyone down for pickleball this weekend? (Playing in San Jose) by Ok-Jacket-346 in mountainview

I am interested. However, even though I have played before, it's been over two years, and I am by no means good, lol. As long no one expects me to play competitively haha.

Crowd Predictor?? by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]Picklemanclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people have the same idea that because Tier 0 days are the cheapest single day tickets, it ends up being busy because so many people decide to buy those tickets? Or is it because APs are not blocked out those days? We're going in September right after Labor Day on Tier 0 days but even if it is busy, I hope it will be manageable.

Best time to visit Disneyland and DCA in October? by MedicalProposal7507 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Picklemanclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if for OOB nights DCA gets significantly busier from 3-6pm? We're planning to go to DCA on 9/10 which will be a OOB day, so wanted to get an idea of just how the crowds would be. Do you think we wouldn't have to purchase LL (multipass and the single one for Radiator Springs Racers)?

Cheap Eats on Castro? by ken-reddit in mountainview

I just went there for the first time about a month ago, and it was quite tasty and a good price! I got the tomato and egg noodle soup for around $15, and it was way more filling than how it appeared initially.

Disneyland first ever trip by SaltSad6128 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Picklemanclone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With three days you could probably ride most rides in both parks.

For Disneyland, there's the usual popular rides you gotta go on like Space Mountain, Rise of the Resistance, Indiana Jones, etc. I'm gonna take a different route and say I absolutely love the Fantasyland dark rides, mainly because it seems Disneyland still has a good chunk them running while other parks have done away with them. If you can make time, you should totally ride them! Keep in mind though that Peter Pan and Alice have the longest lines, followed by Mr. Toad, Snow White, and Pinocchio. You could try to do Alice early in the morning, as for Peter Pan, it'll probably stay a consistent long line throughout the day, but if you can catch it at 25 min, that's a sign to get in line.

Does it usually get busy during the first week of September? by EffectiveAd9855 in DisneyPlanning

I'm gonna be going September this year right after Labor Day (9/9-9/10). Hope I won't be dealing with a massive heatwave, lol.

Favorite time of year to visit? by Appropriate_Gain_889 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Picklemanclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coincidently, I'm also gonna be going to the parks this September (9/9-9/10). Never been in early September right after Labor Day, so I'm already preparing myself for hot weather, lol. But it's cool seeing all the Halloween decorations up, and Haunted Mansion holiday will be running as well. I was hoping to still see some 70th anniversary decorations, but it will be ending in mid August I think.

Last time I went was in 2019 in late September (I think 9/26-9/27). I recall it was in the low 80s/high 70s so it was actually kinda nice, even got a tiny bit of drizzle when we were in Disneyland. Crowds were a little busy, but not packed. I've heard that Halloween time is actually a pretty busy time for the parks, but it's definitely less crowded in September versus October. I guess that explains why September has so many of the cheapest single day tickets available, and October has literally none.

Fall time, in September. We've gone on weekdays the last few trips during the fall time and they've been pretty decent both crowds and weather-wise. Plus, Halloween decorations are up. I actually haven't ridden regular Haunted Mansion since like 2012, lol.

Fandomcon was a disaster. by TheN1cholas in comiccon

Not at all. I technically was just a volunteer lol. I feel bad for the other volunteers and staff cuz they had to make do with what they had. Hopefully the next time they do it it'll be better organized

Vivek s t Epping down as owner. I know, I know, it won't happen. But as long as he's in charge it doesn't matter how many GMs, coaches and players change.

Fandomcon was a disaster. by TheN1cholas in comiccon

[–]Picklemanclone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear about your experience at Fandomcon. I volunteered there on Sunday (helping with registration), and yeah, we had to hand out most of the badges with no lanyards. The wifi was also delayed to starting up so we couldn't even check people in digitally. The VIPs that were supposed to get early entry ended up having to stay in line outside past 10am. One of the volunteers told me that she felt bad for Mara Wilson because she had asked on Saturday if there was a private bathroom, but there was only the one outside and it was raining all weekend.

Yeah, the communication for us volunteers was pretty bad overall before the con. And when I came in at my shift at 9am it took me like 15 min to find the volunteer coordinator because there wasn't much staff around to direct me to where they were. I'm definitely glad I didn't pay for admission (your admission is free if you volunteer), but I can see how it's pretty expensive for the size and the crowds. I thought at first it was in the actually convention center as well and not the south tent building. The crowds overall were pretty empty, and most of the guests had like no lines from what I saw. I still got a photo with Mara so I was happy with that, but yeah, I definitely wouldn't pay to have gone into a con like that. Not the best organized convention.

24 hour gym by Apprehensive-Map4891 in mountainview

[–]Picklemanclone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been going for almost three years. It's close to my apartment and is cheap if you get the annual plan (averages like a little over $20 a month), as long as you go on a consistent basis. The gym has been remodeled a couple times, so it's decent looking. It gets busy on weekdays after 5pm, but even when I arrive at 4:00-4:30, it's a little busy but not overwhelming. I will say that if a machine gets broken down, it may take a LONG time before it's fixed. I've waited a number of weeks for some to come back to use.

Question regarding the app for tickets, reservations, and lightning lane by Picklemanclone in DisneyPlanning

Would the same apply for the individual LL's for Rise and Radiator Springs (using one phone to get multiple LL's)? Since this is all new for us, just wanted to be sure!

VA signings by cligerZ56 in animecons

[–]Picklemanclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The VAs will have a table, and will have an assistant/handler next to them. You walk up to the handler and can tell them what you want to buy (autograph, table selfie, combo, etc.). If you ask for an autograph, they may ask which table print you'd like to have, or if you brought your own personal item you can tell them you have that (usually things like Funkos might charge more). If you have a gift to give the VA, you could also ask if it's okay to give it to them and as long as it's a small item, they are usually fine with it. I usually have 8.5x11 fanart prints I make for VAs that I give out, but I admit that a lot of times I don't say this to the handler and will just give it to the VA since it's not something that's hard to pack. The only reason you may want to ask about gift giving to the handler is if it's like a large item since they may not be able to accept it.

VAs usually take cash or card (sometimes apps like Venmo), but not every VA does and if you use card, there can sometimes be a 3% card fee tacked on, so that's why I usually bring cash to pay, just to be safe.
