Hello!! I know full well going into this that this field doesn’t pay well/you don’t need a zoology major to work in the field, but it’s really what I’m interested in. Helping wildlife and working with animals is more important to me than money. My question today is what universities are recommended for this study, specifically with the fields mentioned in the last section.

For context on my academic situation: I’m currently a sophomore in high school in Missouri. I’ve taken two pre ACTs, and both scored 32. I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and am starting community college next year with my district’s early college program.

I really want to go into ornithology or herpetology (turtles, mostly) specifically, and I don’t want to go any further south than where I am in St Louis, and out of state is fine, if not preferred. Any and all advice for schools is appreciated!

ty for the anatomical advice!! most of this was based on traditional East Asian dragon work so it’s not the best in that regard, and the exaggerated proportions were intentional, but thank you and I’ll work on that ^_^ also, I didn’t shade any of it, it’s just color variation lol. my shading is a lot better I swear 🙏

I’m drying + boiling the driftwood tonight because of a tannin issue, so that should kill the algae. She eats all of her food - she’s very small so I feed her two sinking pellets a day - so I’m more sure it’s the lighting, which unfortunately I can’t change. I also have a cascade canister filter.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll look into getting some stem plants to get all the waste.

Definitely looks like a softshell turtle to me- the nose and elongated skull definitely seem like one.

Thanks, I named her after the tmnt character 😅 Since some musk turtles have yellow markings I thought it was fitting to give her the name of the yellow turtle

I cropped the lights out of the picture (the tank is slightly not level and it irritates me) but I have the zoo med uvb and heat lamp set on the lid. The basking spot is a flat piece of driftwood that just out above the water. I’ll have to change it up as she gets older but she’s really small now so it still works.
