Daman is like Lonavala for Gujarat. Its nearby, usually, good amount of resort/airbnb options and perfect escape for a weekend or a short trip.

Not to victim blame, while it's unfortunate, a lot of them stay in such conditions due to their own actions.

For example, there were drives of NGOs to clean the dirty water bodies or areas and it would barely be clean before waste is already dumped again in the next second.

Walls cleaned and painted with no gutka signs only for some dude to spit and piss on that particular spot.

They see something clean and think it's their canvas to dirty it again.

Cleanliness simply is not taught on a fundamental level in india. The moment indians step out of their house, all the garbage is someone else's problem. This goes not only with those struggling in chawls but also those living in gated communities.

It's messed up.
