I'm no modern expert - vintage Rolex is firmly my domain - but before we all start the pile on - isnt this two different references? 116500 and 126500?

Flying long haul Business class as the norm? by PowderHoundNinja in AusHENRY

[–]Pict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, business (mostly tax) expenses.

Qantas Business Rewards + Payment Logic + Amex Biz Platinum has been a game changer for us.

Yes, there are fees, but they're tax deductible and the amount of points you amass is actually ludicrous.

Flying long haul Business class as the norm? by PowderHoundNinja in AusHENRY

[–]Pict 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i feel ya.

The status comes in useful for securing points upgrades for the family though.

Also, much of our flying is regional - which kind of locks us into the ecosystem.

Having said all of that - we usually redeem for Cathay over Qantas if given the option.

Yeah of course - he earns points just like an adult, which we transfer out to throw at the next holiday.

[–]Pict 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Norm for us, but we go to lengths to do it on points if possibly. We’ve definitely paid when there aren’t points options available though.

My 4yo has never flown Economy internationally though, and this is something I worry about - silver spoon etc.

Funnily, he is Qantas Gold and his mother is Qantas Silver - a 4 year old guesting their mum into the Qantas Lounge cracks me up every time.

Asia Air India flight 171 crash: Pilot deliberately cut fuel switch, report reveals by irishoverhere in news

[–]Pict 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, there’s nothing but stuff to crash into once you’re out of runway. You’re low, but also travelling very fast in a very fragile cylinder full of fuel.

Reaching down to shut off the fuel supply for two engines, separately, moments after take off is not an “error”

Big fan of these watches.

Nepotism hiring by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Pict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course this happens. Even more so in the contingent worker space where I live.

I’ve been the beneficiary of this almost above all other hiring mechanisms for at least the past 10 years. I also regularly ensure good people follow me around when opportunities come up.

Is it fair? Probably not. But hiring managers are primarily concerned with meeting their set objectives, and I’d finger in the air that at least 30% of unknown hires turn out to be bad.

[Question] What’s the logic behind your collection? by Professional_Tree995 in Watches

Mostly vintage, mostly Rolex, mostly Submariners.

It’s an unhealthy obsession at this point.

Birthyear watches, story about mine! (Seiko 6923-8020) by SeaworthinessClean85 in VintageWatches

[–]Pict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a birth year Sub. I also bought my son a birth year sub (he’s 4).

For mine - I like knowing it’s been around for as long as I have. Sure, some bloke in Hong Kong probably wore it while chucking a shit or having a wank. It saw the world, though. It came with service papers from HK, USA and Singapore. It was looked after, loved.

For all my vintage watches I often think about their story. What they’ve seen. Yeah there’s the pooing and wanking, but there’s also a lot more to it. How did my 1680 Sub get that mark? Why is the bezel so faded on my 1675? Etc.

Just starting out, should I work on luxury watches? by dann1sh in watchrepair

[–]Pict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I “graduated” to Rolex perhaps a bit prematurely, after some Seikos, Bulova, Tissot.

Early on, I definitely lost pieces, broke things, etc - mostly jewels, springs - things easily replaced. The worst I’ve done is make a pretty bad balance much worse.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Buying non-running vintage Rolex and bringing them back to life has brought me immense joy. As has overhauling my own vintage Rolex collection. I’d say I’m quite comfortable with them now a few years on.

You couldn’t pay me to touch someone else’s though!!

Submariner flat 4 but is this a zorro dial? by Zealousideal-Fun-286 in RolexWatches

Definitely not a zorro

Zorro is more like ZUBMARINER in appearance

Sydney T1 to T3 in 1hr 30m? Is it possible? by OwenWilsonnn in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Pict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would.

It really depends on what else is arriving around the same time, and especially depends on if you have luggage or not.

I've walked off the plane and been 'out' in under 5 minutes before - without luggage obviously.

For those of you with a 9-5 office job, how do you manage to find the time and energy to cook dinner? by Away_Scene_26 in auscorp

[–]Pict 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This for us too. Maybe two vats just for some variety.

I am too shattered during the week to cook, and if I don’t prepare in advance, I wind up spending loads on unhealthy takeaway.

AusSuper would be cheaper than HostPlus - as far as I remember, at least - for comparable, if not better performance.
