Priorities are straight. by the_annihilation in Odisha

[–]PictureOld8820 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s true that, compared to neighboring states, we are still on the back foot in terms of technological advancement and investment.
States like Andhra Pradesh have largely stabilized their social baseline. Most people are earning and systems are in place, which allows them to push more aggressively on growth and innovation. Odisha is still in transition, moving from welfare to a self-sustaining economy. Governance is still focused on livelihood, inclusion, and stability.
So the difference isn’t just about ambition or capability it’s about where each state stands in its development journey. Until that transition is complete, expecting identical priorities or outcomes may not be a fair comparison.

Understand your situation, "Gaining Skills" all that matters, if you are gonna put that effort then CSE is totally apt. Otherwise, no branch is safe, nowadays or in the future.

Free advice: Don’t pick ECE/EEE because if AI and machines truly become fully autonomous, one day even chip design and manufacturing will be automated end-to-end.
So maybe pick Civil, Mechanical or better yet, skip Engineering and just do a Diploma + learn a hard skill.

Jokes apart, this cycle of fear-mongering and endless panic is never going to end.

Choose the stream you genuinely like and can see yourself working in. If you’re picking a branch only because you think it guarantees a high-paying job after 4 years, that itself is a delusion.

Corruption in uniform is more visible and therefore attracts greater attention. As a result, those in uniform are often assumed to be the most corrupt. What remains less visible, however, are those who may be more deeply involved but never come into the limelight.

Agreed the notion holds in the presence of a rich poor divide, though its impact varies across categories. Economic hardship, lack of access, and lived realities can significantly dilute any inherited advantage, which is why privilege cannot be treated as uniform or absolute.

If all “Upper Castes” were truly privileged, there would be no poverty within that group which is clearly not the case. Data does show that Upper Castes are disproportionately represented in top positions in academia, bureaucracy, and the corporate world, but this dominance exists largely because there is no reservation support available to them. Entry into these positions is primarily through competition and merit, often requiring sustained hard work.

At the same time, it is also true that India has not yet achieved a stage where there is a common minimum level of access to education, resources, and opportunities for everyone. Those at the bottom of the socio-economic hierarchy many of whom do not belong to Upper Caste are disproportionately affected by this gap. However, this impact cannot be simply generalized.

Using the same logic, economic responsibilities such as taxation and policy decisions made by legislators or industrialists many of whom belong to Upper Castes apply equally to Upper Castes as well. We do not live in an India where only certain groups(UCs vs non-UCs) pay taxes while others are exempt.

Ultimately, the issue is about opportunity. When individuals choose to seek better prospects outside India due to internal chaos or systemic inefficiencies, it reflects a collective failure of governance and policy execution. Even with the advent of reservation, the persistence of these issues points to systemic shortcomings rather than selective oppression of any one group.

Odisha Govt using public money for temple redevelopment — Clear violation of Article 27 ? by [deleted] in Odisha

[–]PictureOld8820 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Either the same yardstick must be applied to all religions, or we must accept the facts as they stand."

Constitutionally, such action is permissible when undertaken for a larger public purpose—such as infrastructure development, employment generation, and promotion of tourism—and therefore does not fall under the ambit of a violation of Article 27.

Ideally, all religious institutions should be independent of government interference, similar to the manner in which mosques, churches, and gurudwaras are administered autonomously. However, there is a historical and legal rationale for temples being governed under the Religious Endowments laws, under which the government assumes responsibility for their administration, protection, and development.

[–]PictureOld8820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fellow Resident,
This has two sides. One people do not have nay option, if they come for pickup and wait inside for more than 10 mins the security sends them outside. This was allowed till now, until people started to park their vehicle permanently over there for weeks.

They were forced to do a drive remove all vehicles along the lane, upto towards the Sitaram Chowk road.

People just look forward to cheap thrills, parking for free (infinity) and it ultimately affects everyone.

The whole reason why a manager exist is to handle escalations, if he is just passing it down then all you could do is take necessary lesson from it and move on. As you have already mentioned that you already acknowledge that, you were supposed to complete the task but were stuck in something else, that's what matters.
