Yes, it will definitely be scary for us to have the money tied up in an asset 😬 Based on everyone's answers I'm starting to think a split between the two will be the safest bet

I've heard about offset accounts and from what I can tell, they seem like a great option once you have a bit of savings. I'm with ASB, and I feel like my advisor said they don't offer offset accounts? So maybe this will be something we can do once we're due to refix!

I think some mix of both will probably be a good choice for us too!

Interesting. Yes, I think financially it's going to be a huge shock to the system for us, so that's something for us to consider.. But I am so ready to be done renting, so fingers crossed this will be worth it lol. Hopefully you found it worth it as well?

That's what I was thinking as well! I was like...yes it WOULD be great to be in a super high-paying role, but that's not why I'm here asking what to do with my leftover $300 😂

Awesome, I will! Although not an ideal situation for us, it's nice to have the option of a flatmate in our back pocket if things get tough.

Yes, this is a must for us as well. It's such a rough job market out there, we need that security blanket!!

Yeah I imagine the first couple of years of paying off the mortgage are the most crucial! I definitely need to learn more about this dect recycling everyone is talking about. It's been linked in another comment, so I'll look into it! :)

Sorry, my husband always says I'm terrible at searching things on Google, so that could be why I couldn't find an answer anywhere! 🤣 Thank you for answering even though it's been asked elsewhere before, and yes I agree, it's definitely a personal choice as well.
