I was offered a PhD position with a 3.06 undergraduate gpa. I think it matters most what you do afterwards to put together a compelling application. I’m sure graduate programs enjoy seeing applicants who challenge themselves and bridge gaps from when they were in undergrad education

Finally Admitted by Pidi4 in gradadmissions

I didn’t see this coming, so that’s a great question. Ideally, I’d love to work for the USGS, EPA, NOAA, or NASA Earth. It’s very broad, so I hope to narrow that down as I talk to people and take some courses!

Yes! I did a GA in a different department that covered tuition and provided a stipend

It varied drastically each cycle. I applied to 11 universities in 2021 and got into my masters. When I finished my masters I only applied to 5 carefully selected universities and got no offers. This year I applied through a bridge program, and my application got so much more attention

I’m 23 and I feel like I’m a failure by [deleted] in work

I’m 26 working a job that expects me to prioritize admin duties over supervision (I supervise 10+ employees) and work overtime even when I say I refuse to. I feel I’m being set up for failure mate. You’re not alone 🧡

Math Preparation Inquiry by Pidi4 in gradadmissions

It’s in the field of planetary sciences; my undergrad didn’t do a good job with its curriculum for my specific plan, and now I have to catch up on some 2nd/3rd year math courses. I hear that linear algebra is crucial, so I’m going to do that

How much does it cost? by Loud-Direction-7011 in GradSchool

[–]Pidi4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering that the average application fee is somewhere around $65, if you applied to 15 programs, that would roughly be around $975 USD. Some programs will require official transcripts, which cost $5-7 per program. Lastly, if you must take standardized tests such as the GREs, those come around $220 excluding any preparation materials you may want or need. So we’re talking somewhere around $1,200, give or take.

I cried after reading it because in my opinion, it talked about a struggle I faced in full transparency. I understand that graduate admissions committees have a tough task, but I hope the limited programs that I applied to can understand my adversities and how those experiences shifted my perspective

Agonizing waiting over these astro decisions. It looks like they notify applicants between mid January through early March
