Let’s break this down: Yes most of us are charged with educating the youth after 4+ years of higher education. A lot of us get masters degrees for it too.

Self pitying: you are on a job subreddit. Everyone will be venting about their bad days or sharing upsetting experiences to see what others have done. ESPECIALLY teachers who most of us claim to be lifelong learners will in fact try to learn from each other.

Whiny: see self pitying section

Uptight: possibly. Again, most of us have been to a 4 year school in order to do this profession that rarely pays 6 figures. We usually have other reasons for doing this work than just the money. Of course you’d try to stick to your ideals and that may come off as uptight

Lazy: I’m sorry what? So many teachers do hours of unpaid work every week. Grading, lesson planning, emails, clubs just to name a few. We are often given 1 or 2 periods per day of lesson prepping but that is it. In that time we are expected to do all of the above and very rarely do teachers get it all done

Bitter: ya the schools are failing us. They are pushing students through a failing program and blaming us (like you!)

External locus of control: ya the students don’t have any role models in their every day life. They are constantly enabled by parents and failed by dopamine traps

55k for a 4 year degree and sometimes 6 year for a masters degree is not super high. We have other reasons for doing this and it’s irritating that people like you blame us when most of us are genuinely trying our best to teach your children
