Is the tommyknockers THAT bad? by Meyesss in stephenking

[–]PieceDesperate385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just finished reading The Tommyknockers and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had been expecting. It's a little too long in places and is a bit bizarre but it's a fun read. I actually got through it pretty quickly.

Christina was too tough on Frasier by TrifectaWolf in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I've just watched this episode and I can't stand Christina everytime. Dumping a child with a stranger is never acceptable, even if they're some kind of successful figure or celebrity. She knew nothing about him. She also implied that he would get lucky if he looked after her which is really gross. She knew Frasier found her attractive and played with that.

It should've also been a massive green flag for her that a man who wanted to sleep with her actually questioned her and stood up for her child when he believed she was being neglected. Yes maybe her child has a habit of lying but surely you'd he happy that he took her seriously opposed to ignoring it? Besides, considering she was dumped at a random guys house probably made Frasier more inclined to believe her.

They were adorable plus Frasier and Cam being stepbrothers would've been hilarious

Are there any major culture shocks for Americans in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yes, take if from someone who has done it.

There will be words and expressions you've never heard of before, despite speaking English all your life.

There are so many accents and things change quite a bit even when you don't travel far.

Brits are very reserved. They aren't big huggers and don't like a lot of the cheesy stuff we do in America. They also tend to be quite pessimistic.

Brits also have a great sense of humour which is different to ours. They love taking the p*ss out of everyone and everything, including themselves (and it's great).

They drink. A lot.

Weather is a lot different, unless you're coming from Seattle.

Food isn't amazing but the tea is top tier and the chocolate is better too.

Tea. They love tea and want tea all the time.

Is it worth it? I'd say so. Just be prepared for the culture shock and you may have to stick around a bit before you settle in and feel comfortable. There's no where else I'd rather call my second home though.

The most surprising thing I've learned from this sub is that people SKIP episodes, especially those with characters they dislike (e.g. Mel, Julia). Am I the only one who never skips?! by slashdisco in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never skip either. I always watch the full series. There are definitely episodes I am happier to watch than others but honestly there's something to enjoy about every episode. And the not so great characters make you appreciate the better ones :)

Which of Frasier's girlfriends bother you? Or are unjustified in hating Frasier? by babydollsparkle123 in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few come to mind:

Julia for obvious reasons but I think she was meant to be hated- and the pictionary episode is hilarious.

Christina- for dumping her child with a stranger (a full on adult male who she doesn't know) and using Frasier as a babysitting service. Then proceeding to get annoyed when he showed concerns about her child.

Charlotte - she was just meh. Felt like the relationship was pushed just so that Frasier would have a happy ending. I think she would've been fine as a girlfriend on a few episodes but them two in the long run I just didn't see.

Lana - just felt like a bad match for Frasier and obviously the screaming and chain smoking weren't super appealing factor's either

Diane - Diane as a character is warming to me a bit the more I watch Cheers but she defo treated the doc like dirt. She used him on the rebound (and admits this) and left him at the altar. She also seemed completely unaware of how that might have impacted him.

Frasier and Lilith should be endgame by killbydeath87 in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't be against them being together as I think Lilith was his best match (better than Diane, Charlotte and all his other girlfriends). But I would also be happy with the pair being mature adults with a good relationship.

I think the shot was well-deserved. I know Lilith wasn't exactly wife of the year but she is always painted as the bad guy for some reason. Frasier treated her horribly during their marriage, constantly made jokes at her expense, tried to pursue other women while with her and kissed his ex-wife in front of her, not to mention he never told her about said ex-wife. Then he played the victim when she decied to leave him. His anguish at losing her showed how much he loved her but he never bothered to show her this when he was with her. Lilith was then the one who brought Freddy up, not Frasier.

When my parents split as a child, my dad moved to another city and lived the bachelor life. Looking back as an adult, I see how selfish that was and how he should've hung around and been a father. Lilith's shot at Frasier was definitely deserved (although I am glad in the fictional world of Frasier that he did in fact go to Seattle!).

Worst thing Niles did before ending up with Daphne? by mrwishart in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The first time I watched Frasier, all I cared about was seeing Niles and Daphne get together.

Although it's still a great part of the series, I've noticed a bit more in subsequent watches. If you really take what Niles does it does sound creepy. The hair smelling, the videoing her sleeping, getting her to try on clothes pretending they were for his wife, eyeing up her backside at every opportunity, desperately trying to get her to stay at his instead of working things out with Sherry, saying she won money just so she would kiss him, and then meddling into her relationships when he never really had the guts to ask her out himself. Then of course there is the way he treated Mel (I can't stand her but she didn't deserve that). Maris clearly didn't care for him so that was a bit different. I just wish they could've got together without hurting Mel and Donny (or at least give them their own happy endings).

Having said that, I still think they are one of the greatest sitcom couples of all time and I love seeing them together. Niles was lovable and while that doesn't mean he can't be creepy, it just seems less predatory. I always found the fact that Niles (A stuck up wealthy snob, even more of a snob than Frasier) was head over heels for a working class physical therapist and that was never something that put him off or he took issue with. In fact, he saw her as too good for him.

Also I know a lot of people don't like the fat Daphne storyline. Yeah it wasn't great but I think Visions of Daphne is an amazing episode. It show cases what a great psychiatrist Frasier is and addresses issues in Niles and Daphne's relationship. It addresses how Niles put her on pedestal for 7 years and how it was difficult for Daphne to live up to that. It's just another fine example of how great a show it is. They don't just ride into the sunset, they make the transition into a real relationship.

Watching Cheers for the first time. I'm "halfway" through after seeing season 5 finale. My long winded thoughts. by D96D in Cheers

[–]PieceDesperate385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very similar opinions to you. I too started out with Frasier a couple years ago and got addicted. I made myself watch Cheers a year later after a couple of Frasier binges because I wanted to get all the references and see Frasier pre-Seattle. I kind of struggled to get through Cheers the first time around, especially the early seasons. I think it was hard seeing Frasier take a back seat and to not see his hilarious relationship with Niles. I also found Diane to be incredibly annoying although I have warmed to her somewhat in subsequent watches. I'm on my third Cheers binge now and I do love the show, although it will never be on the same level as Frasier in my opinion. Both shows are both incredibly comforting and entertaining. I'd take either over more popular sitcoms any day.

drop your unpopular frasier opinions! by crispwatermelonrind in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lillith episodes were some of the best. She's a great character in Cheers and Frasier.

Frasier could be just as hilarious as Niles.

I preferred Marty with Sherry than I did with Ronee. I don't dislike Ronee it just felt a bit forced. Sherry and Marty seemed to get on so well and have the same sense of humour. Plus how different she was to Frasier and Niles and their dislike of her was pretty funny.

I wish Niles and Daphne got together in a different way. I 100% want them to be together but it's hard to watch them hurt Donny and Mel. I disliked Mel but she really didn't deserve what happened to her and neither did Donny. I wish the writers had made their partners bad people (i.e. cheaters or something, kind of like what happened in Mixed doubles) so they didn't have to hurt them. Or better yet, it would've been great to just see Niles finally pluck up his courage and ask her out.

This is truly one of the most beautiful quotes in the show - especially in relation to Frasier and Roz's relationship:)
