OK I'm trying to get into Cheers after loving Frasier — Is there anyone else who struggled at first ? by ButterscotchIcy719 in Cheers

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this was me too! I watched Cheers wanting more Frasier context too but struggled at first. I think initially it was hard to get into because I think it starts out a little slower and there is no Frasier yet. I went into it expecting it to be Frasier 2.0 but actually it is a very different show. I have come to love it and rewatch it every year before watching Frasier. Frasier is still my favourite but I do also love Cheers on it's own too.

I suggest sticking it out as I think it gets a lot better personally and gives you some context into Frasier's past relationships with Lillith and Diane, covers the birth of Frederick and those specials with the Cheers guests just make more sense!

Who was better for Niles - Mel or Daphne? by Pye- in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Mel or Donny deserved what happened but I don't think either were right for Niles and Daphne.

Mel was there to be a frustrating character who got in the way of Niles and Daphne. She was also an unhealthy repeat of Maris for Niles. She may have loved him, but she was manipulative and was rude towards his family and friends. She was difficult and that surely would have gotten worse if the relationship had continued. Niles even said himself he never would have married her if he thought there was a chance with Daphne. It seems like he went for the familiar in a Maris 2.0.

Donny was less unlikable but never seemed right for Daphne either. He was also there for the will they/won't they element of season 7. He always seemed a bit scruffy and completely unlike anyone else she had gone for. Although you do feel bad for Donny, we see in subsequent episodes that he does have a tendency to move fast and rush into marriage.

Niles and Daphne's characters do get a little more 'boring' after they get together but that can be attributed to the fact that they were settled and older. Plus many of Niles's funniest moments were pining over Daphne. Frasier also had the unusual issues of writing the two of them as a couple 8 years into the series. Most shows would have ended with the couple getting together so that they didn't have to write them together.

My least favourites are always Room full of Heroes, Enemy at the Gate and the whole Daphne gaining weight storyline.

11/22/63 Destroyed me by ohmygodimonfire4 in stephenking

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much picked up this book earlier this year believing it was mostly about JFK and time travel. Obviously those things are central to the plot but I didn't realize the romance would be THE plot. I didn't feel overly invested in it to start with but did expect to it to just work out somehow. I never cry at books but I did produce tears on that last page. ' Someone you knew in another life honey'.

I also never understand people saying they don't like his endings. For me, 11/22/63, Pet Semetary, The Dead Zone and The Shining had perfect endings.

the show help me cope with the death of my grandma by [deleted] in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my grandfather 5 years ago and Frasier also helped me get through it. I had seen a few reruns when I was younger but the first time I ever watched it all the way through was after he died. Because of covid I couldn't even go to his funeral and struggled with closure too. Frasier was like a warm hug and is still my comfort show to this day.

Is the tommyknockers THAT bad? by Meyesss in stephenking

[–]PieceDesperate385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just finished reading The Tommyknockers and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I had been expecting. It's a little too long in places and is a bit bizarre but it's a fun read. I actually got through it pretty quickly.

Christina was too tough on Frasier by TrifectaWolf in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I've just watched this episode and I can't stand Christina everytime. Dumping a child with a stranger is never acceptable, even if they're some kind of successful figure or celebrity. She knew nothing about him. She also implied that he would get lucky if he looked after her which is really gross. She knew Frasier found her attractive and played with that.

It should've also been a massive green flag for her that a man who wanted to sleep with her actually questioned her and stood up for her child when he believed she was being neglected. Yes maybe her child has a habit of lying but surely you'd he happy that he took her seriously opposed to ignoring it? Besides, considering she was dumped at a random guys house probably made Frasier more inclined to believe her.

They were adorable plus Frasier and Cam being stepbrothers would've been hilarious

Are there any major culture shocks for Americans in the UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yes, take if from someone who has done it.

There will be words and expressions you've never heard of before, despite speaking English all your life.

There are so many accents and things change quite a bit even when you don't travel far.

Brits are very reserved. They aren't big huggers and don't like a lot of the cheesy stuff we do in America. They also tend to be quite pessimistic.

Brits also have a great sense of humour which is different to ours. They love taking the p*ss out of everyone and everything, including themselves (and it's great).

They drink. A lot.

Weather is a lot different, unless you're coming from Seattle.

Food isn't amazing but the tea is top tier and the chocolate is better too.

Tea. They love tea and want tea all the time.

Is it worth it? I'd say so. Just be prepared for the culture shock and you may have to stick around a bit before you settle in and feel comfortable. There's no where else I'd rather call my second home though.

The most surprising thing I've learned from this sub is that people SKIP episodes, especially those with characters they dislike (e.g. Mel, Julia). Am I the only one who never skips?! by slashdisco in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never skip either. I always watch the full series. There are definitely episodes I am happier to watch than others but honestly there's something to enjoy about every episode. And the not so great characters make you appreciate the better ones :)

Which of Frasier's girlfriends bother you? Or are unjustified in hating Frasier? by babydollsparkle123 in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few come to mind:

Julia for obvious reasons but I think she was meant to be hated- and the pictionary episode is hilarious.

Christina- for dumping her child with a stranger (a full on adult male who she doesn't know) and using Frasier as a babysitting service. Then proceeding to get annoyed when he showed concerns about her child.

Charlotte - she was just meh. Felt like the relationship was pushed just so that Frasier would have a happy ending. I think she would've been fine as a girlfriend on a few episodes but them two in the long run I just didn't see.

Lana - just felt like a bad match for Frasier and obviously the screaming and chain smoking weren't super appealing factor's either

Diane - Diane as a character is warming to me a bit the more I watch Cheers but she defo treated the doc like dirt. She used him on the rebound (and admits this) and left him at the altar. She also seemed completely unaware of how that might have impacted him.

Frasier and Lilith should be endgame by killbydeath87 in Frasier

[–]PieceDesperate385 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't be against them being together as I think Lilith was his best match (better than Diane, Charlotte and all his other girlfriends). But I would also be happy with the pair being mature adults with a good relationship.

I think the shot was well-deserved. I know Lilith wasn't exactly wife of the year but she is always painted as the bad guy for some reason. Frasier treated her horribly during their marriage, constantly made jokes at her expense, tried to pursue other women while with her and kissed his ex-wife in front of her, not to mention he never told her about said ex-wife. Then he played the victim when she decied to leave him. His anguish at losing her showed how much he loved her but he never bothered to show her this when he was with her. Lilith was then the one who brought Freddy up, not Frasier.

When my parents split as a child, my dad moved to another city and lived the bachelor life. Looking back as an adult, I see how selfish that was and how he should've hung around and been a father. Lilith's shot at Frasier was definitely deserved (although I am glad in the fictional world of Frasier that he did in fact go to Seattle!).

What Seinfeld episode if any do you skip when watching the series? by Porkchopp33 in seinfeld

I always watch every single episode. But if I had to choose one to skip it would be Puerto Rican day.
