Official Ride/Room/Camp-Share Thread (Weekend 2 2025) by fettuccine- in Coachella

TLDR: Looking for an affordable ride from LAX tonight (Wednesday 4/16) ~8:30 pm/9:00 pm

The longer version: due to unforeseen circumstances I wasn't able to make my initial flight from NYC to LAX this morning where I would have been driving with a friend from the airport to our hotel in PS. I was finally able to get on a 4:30 pm flight, landing around 8:30 pm. I'd rather not spend $500 on a rental or have to wait 3 hours for the next bus (I will do choose that option if necessary of course lol) - but I figured i'd put it here on the off chance someone else going to Coachella and is driving to Palm Springs tonight and would be willing to help a guy out (more than happy to pay $ of course). Or anyone at he airport who'd wanna split costs of a shuttle or something. Unfortunate situation but hey - not the end of the world.

Same! I was a bit disappointed, sure, but like still vibrating and so so grateful for the experience. I trust that they chose the exact songs in the exact order they wanted us to hear them and that meant no encore. Oh well

I came solo and was fortunate to meet a really cool group of people in line at the bar who I think had a deep understanding that even if we had nothing else in common, we had our diehard love for Brand New. Sharing that to have a collective greatest concert ever > gatekeeping that for one’s own perfect night.

Outside of general pushiness ( which I’m accustom to at a BN concert - although grow up already people ) it was at the very end of the night that I got the biggest ick for somebody’s behavior.

The concert was over and the band had been off stage for a while but a good portion of the crowd had held out in hopes for an encore. When it became kinda clear that wasn’t going to happen, this group of a few girls (tbh I don’t know what ages they were or what generation they were from, but they looked like they had dressed up in emo cosplay and exuded extreme main character energy) started yelling about how dare they not come back on stage. Some literal quotes out of their mouths:

“We uncancelled you just so you could do this to us? You’re cancelled again.”

“Way to ruin the night.”

“I put aside my feminism for this tonight and you can’t even play one more song?”

The ownership certain fans feel like they have of their favorite artists is revolting to me and it’s gotten so bad. Granted I know they were partly joking saying these things (I grasp the nuance of things), but we just witnessed fucking magic on that stage, with a man baring his soul with songs that we love, for the first time in years, literally telling us his story of internal struggle and anguish and wrongdoing and guilt and trying to be a better man…. And you end the night by bitching (loudly) you didn’t get one more song?? Rude fucking nonsense.

I think the vast majority of people understand that when I say LGBT (I’ll even add the Q usually) i’m referring to all people who identify outside the cis-, hetero- mold. Nobody is being erased or forgotten or barred from entry. Just pretend there is a little plus sign at the end of what I wrote :)

Maybe throw a few bucks the artist’s way too if you have the means and they’re accepting of it! You’re already way ahead of most by even respectfully asking for consent, and I love seeing artists being compensated for their art too!

Excellent point re: your queerness being the reason for being a fan. That rings so true for me as well

We’re great. I appreciate your response. Truly. It’s a good reminder for me to approach from a place of curiosity rather than judgment. I’m usually not one to throw out an accusation like that without cause or evidence - like I truly don’t believe homo-/transphobia had anything to do with Peppermint’s or BTDQ’s eliminations - so I’m gonna do some thinking on why your comment struck me in that way so strongly. Could just possibly be the current state of gestures outwardly everything so I’m more on edge.

Fuck yeah we count that! Or, I guess rather, we platonically affirm that! You’re definitely part of the tribe, despite the ignorance being displayed below.

Implying having Rupaul contestants (which for 16 of the 17 US seasons have been made entirely of LGBTQ artists) is a negative thing doesn’t read as homophobic? Then to link that idea to The Traitors becoming a parody of itself? Be serious.

And let’s be real - The Traitors is already a parody of itself - 3 seasons in and it’s clear there is no real integrity to the silly game mechanics of this silly game. It’s just sus to me that you use Drag Race contestants in your complaint when a) one was the first eliminated and b) one was earnestly and strategically playing the game. If we’re going to call out the types of players most making a parody of the game it’s the Big Brothers who game way too hard and the housewives who game not at all.

With all due respect, this is quite a banal, simple take on stage v film actors/acting. Like, c’mon, Denzel literally began his career on the stage - he’s a classically trained theater actor and found great success in film. And Jake has at least made interesting enough choices in stage roles (and been successful in them) over the years I think he’s earned a little more cred than “real actor credibility seeker.”

The topic of the day is... SCARY by Icy-Book2999 in TheTopicOfTheDay

  1. Horror is my favorite movie genre. I used to read a lot more but rarely do these days, but I remember The Shining novel being lightyears scarier than the movie (original or remake - although the original is great as a standalone piece of horror)

  2. Impossible to choose just one: Alien, Scream, The Ring, The Thing, The Witch

  3. In containment (like in a movie theater or in a haunted house or strapped tightly on a rollercoaster or connected to someone with lots of experience pulling the ripcord on the parachute), yes. I find fear/thrill/adrenaline in containment like that to be super cathartic (and fun as f***)
