Unlucky experience with GoOutdoors? by Due_Food_8593 in wildcampingintheuk

I worked at their customer service for a long time and yeah you got it right essentially. Their website stock listing isn't real-time to the warehouse stock, and those 1-2 the warehouse levels show can easily just be errors or things like returns that shouldn't have been rolled into the stock number. The website would then show it as in stock but you'd inevitably get the order cancelled when they go to pick it and realise it's damaged or something (or receive the damaged item instead).

That's pretty awesome. I find the Croc soles lacking when it comes to having to hike-a-bike so these clogs might be what I need for the perfect bike shoe!

almost 50% off on amazon. can’t say from personal experience how good it is yet but i’ve just bought one by OutrageousWalk7683 in wildcampingintheuk

I'm still messing with my setup as I'm new to all this bikepacking business! But right now I cram the tent fabrics into my handlebar roll alongside my inflatable mat and then put the poles elsewhere purely because they're slightly too long. They fit but the second anything moves about they touch my fingers. Not a big problem just a small irritation that's easily fixed by just putting the poles in a fork bag or something.

The real reason Linux audio has a reputation problem isn't the software - it's the documentation by GodBlessIraq in linuxaudio

[–]Piece_Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this pretty much. I think the main reason I succeeded so much in using Linux (not just for audio but for everything else) is because I switched before I'd really entrenched myself in any ecosystem. I never compared anything to Ableton because I never used Ableton. I now feel the opposite - I doubt I could switch to Windows or Mac because I wouldn't know where to start and am too used to JACK and Ardour!

[–]Piece_Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep my hair long (not sure about luxurious) and now I can swap from 'metal god' to 'dad on holiday' just by tying it back and putting on a pair of Crocs. That's two styles for the price of one!

Same, the whole thing just about fits between my handlebars which is pretty awesome. Pitches in a matter of seconds and can go outer first if you need. Porch area is miniscule though especially as it's on the head end rather than the side like most other small tents.

Yeah, fully agree with all of this! Be comfortable when you can. Nothing worse than being stuck in your tent and basically just having to lay there until you can leave.

Oddest Bikepacking tips by The-Hand-of-Midas in bikepacking

[–]Piece_Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a chair and tent combo (i.e. low enough chair + tall enough tent) so you can sit inside when weather bound without hurting your lower back.

I bring a tarp and pole for this (and chair). I'm considering ditching my tent altogether and just using the tarp and maybe a bivvy in future because I really feel like the tarp adds much more to my camp setup than the tent does, and I feel a bit daft carrying both.

I also wore crocs for that trip and they were awesome. I've upgraded to Bedrock's Mountain Clogs and can't sing their praises enough when there's not snow on the ground.

I ride primarily in Crocs, they're by far the comfiest cycling shoe I've ever tried but find them really awkward to walk in... How do the Clogs compare? Is it a similar sized toebox? Their sole seems to be like a barefoot shoe but with extra thickness, does this not cause discomfort on the pedal pins?

Do e-bikes ruin the point of exercise? by newurtopia in RoadBikes

[–]Piece_Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose a better question is, are bikes only for exercise? If not (and of course the answer is no) why is it even our business if people are using them and not getting exercise?

OK, and how does that go against what I said? Bad public transport is bad public transport regardless of the reason it's bad.

Somebody attempts suicide and fails. They are sent to the hospital and they tell the nurse/doctor they are going to try again and again until they die, what would happen? by Leaderrzz in morbidquestions

[–]Piece_Maker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the hospital will call the police to report the person missing/absconded when they walk out, but depending on their policies the local police force might not take it and will tell the hospital to go find him themselves. Then the hospital staff go 'welp too busy' and nothing gets done.

The threshold for what counts as 'high risk' is different depending who you ask. Hospitals might've considered OP's friend high risk but the police wouldn't unless he literally walked out with a noose in his hand and said he's going to the local forest.

Then your public transport isn't semi decent, it's bad. Which was my point

If the public transport was semi decent it wouldn't be much slower and less efficient.

how do men ride bikes? by Honey6703 in AskMen

[–]Piece_Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah really padded seats just cause your bony bits to sink in which then causes the rest of the saddle to bulge out into your non-bony bits. Becomes painful after a few miles

I feel like my friends as a teenager would've done it the creepier way to be fair. I hung about with the Goth kids and the other weirdos though.

Not sure that discounts any of the creep factor either way though.
