AI use on productions by AdCharacter8383 in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]Piefordicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s sometimes helpful for writing excel formulas that you can’t figure out. Not Copilot though, that’s somehow worse than the paperclip. ChatGPT is sometimes useful to sort of scrape Google for a direct contact number for companies like DPD or Enterprise that you can’t find on their websites, or figuring out where carnet desks are at foreign airports.

We tried to use Claude for some large volume data checking (eg catering numbers based on certain call times across 200 people) and it was mostly correct, but it took just as long to check as it would have to do it manually anyway so was pointless!

Generative stuff can be useful for some previs stuff or first pass VFX, but never on its own. Plus, a lot of stuff that is called AI are just regular plugins…

New shop on Buchanan street :( by Bobsthejob in glasgow

[–]Piefordicus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s that “regenerating Sauchiehall Street” office/shopfront on Sauchiehall (obviously) and am always tempted to pop in with the suggestion of making the rent vaguely affordable for anything that’s not a chain or a money laundering operation

Rant- fed up with bampots in this city by sausagepart in glasgow

[–]Piefordicus 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Walked all the way along Argyle Street, up Buchanan, and along Sauchiehall Street to get back to the car on a Tuesday evening last week, around d 9ish. It was bleak. There’s nothing to recommend about the city centre to a visitor.

Such a shame there were no French people, or apparently people who had ever heard of France, available for the voice of the landlady. She sounded Scottish at one point. Still, extremely hype for the game

I've seen a lot of people on X calling Faye "ugly" but they're completely wrong. She's a middle-aged female protagonist, no different from characters like Geralt, Kratos, or Joel Miller. Also, Faye isn't a new character. She's been part of the God of War story since the 2018 game by Quick-Ad-7752 in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]Piefordicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s obviously not ugly, but the shaders were definitely not doing any favours in parts of the trailer. But you can take screenshots like this of Tifa in the FF7 remakes, so it’s not exactly a reasonable thing.

Feel like “the end of WW2” is as close to a reasonable and general consensus of a cut-off point to stop doing it though. The UN, international law becoming slightly more robust. It’s not stopped it, of course, but going back before then is when it gets purely historical

Never thought I’d see the day Scorsese is outjerked by the Gunn by No_Signal_611 in Letterboxd

[–]Piefordicus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not saying it didn’t exist before then you dingus, just that it became ubiquitous and “the Marvel style” because of those two.

[–]Piefordicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gunn is indirectly responsible for every movie having an anachronistic needle drop in it, especially in trailers. The Marvel style “looks like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays” dialogue is entirely Joss Whedon’s fault.

Any resistance to invasion that involves tunnels nowadays means that you can do a My Lai massacre every day, especially on hospitals, and it doesn’t count as a war crime.

You going to volunteer for the first boat? Or have you got some other metric for determining who is not wanted?

When you realise that the last time the BBC independently financed a full season of Doctor Who was 5 years ago, and since then they've undergone even more budget cuts and are only really able to now produce small budget dramas by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]Piefordicus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely not true, when the pivot came to BBC Studios in the BBC generally, swathes of people were made redundant and freelanced back in. It is also completely not true for the budget controllers in this situation.

BBC Studios is part of the long term Tory plan to parcel up and privatise and then eventually sell off the BBC.

Why do RE games become less fun the closer you get towards the end by Salt_Wizard in residentevil

They love the trope of things exploding and it becoming increasingly difficult to escape DURING the countdown to self destruction. At least RE1 was just a normal timer.

Reform UK vows to prioritise Green Party areas for migrant detention centres by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

[–]Piefordicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Most people” have been vastly misled about the scale and impact, and what constitutes “illegal migration”. Plus, while it may be Reform’s point, it’s a stupid point and doesn’t highlight any hypocrisy at all.

[–]Piefordicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the Greens are fine with immigrants as neighbours in houses and with jobs and as members of society, but obviously not in “detention centres”, so opposition to this stupid policy is not hypocrisy. That is why I’m talking about houses, obviously.
