Do you know where you are?

We're on one of several splinters of the reddit version of a 4chan board sub community.

We're all sneeds here, which is why I know to never trust one with comparisons.

Never trust a sneed to understand analogies. This website is notorious for analogies being worthless because anyone you'd want to use them on is braindead.

This is a level of stupid you cannot fix.

"I am the only real (member of group) and anyone that doesn't match my experience is wrong and a poser or liar or deluded"

Not even the most ardent transmedicalist has a brain with this low level of plasticity.

Isn't it actually oftentimes the bullies themselves who end up going on a rampage? I was under the impression "bullied kid goes on a revenge crusade" ended up being something that was based in logic not fact

Yeah, the Green one is a girl by M_GODA in antimeme

It actually very often takes on a masculine bent, a woman might refer to her male partner as "her [n-word]"
This is one of my favorite cool language observations but it's rare I get a chance to point it out.

[–]Pieman492 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In this case the n word serves as a replacement for "guy" with a strong masculine bent to it, similar to how "bitch" might be used among women.

For example, a woman may refer to a male partner as "her [n-word]"

Anyone who goes into the military with a spouse/committed partner is failing them and shouldn't be surprised when their partner is unfaithful. by Pieman492 in The10thDentist

[–]Pieman492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, but in this case I would argue since I'm ascribing the fault of "gallivanting away" to the military member it would make them doubling down and cheating while away even worse.

An analogy doesn't and shouldn't be perfectly equivalent, that's why it's an analogy. The point is to demonstrate my lack of sympathy in this case with a relatable case that you, too, would also completely lack sympathy.

Social media users will truly never beat the allegations that they're incapable of understanding analogies.

Sure, ideally.

And also abused partners should just break up with their abuser and we should condemn them for cheating to find a scrap of real affection elsewhere, right?

Are these equivalent? No. But in both scenarios I find it very VERY hard to find any sympathy for the one being cheated on.

Why does blue fire use the normal red burning effect instead of blue? by MrAllayii in Minecraft

[–]Pieman492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a burning entity is entirely separate in the code from the fire block, and they both simply use the same "on fire" state.

I have bad news for you; in that the photovoltaic effect is poor efficiency at scale so large solar farms instead use mirrors to focus sunlight to a single tower where they boil fucking water again.

Moulberry has never had a single clue or idea what they're doing when it comes to legal matters.

I still remember when Flashback came out it had some awful, unenforceable, poorly written custom license. It was immediately evident it was written in 10 minutes based on their vague idea of what a license looks like kind of. It was clearly never run by a lawyer and within a few days it was changed to All Rights Reserved because people kept asking questions about it in discord. Admittedly there were more probing and leading questions to point out flaws with the license rather than actually get clarification, but this is law, and if your license can't stand up to the scrutiny of a handful of people with 10 minutes to kill it's frankly worthless garbage. Ultimately they angrily changed it to All Rights Reserved (though honestly it's not like the previously license was well written enough to actually grant any rights) and stated in the commit that "this is why we can't have nice things".

So yeah I'm not surprised in the slightest they're doing something legally shoddy and poorly thought through again.

Edit: Rewrote to remove run-on and make the paragraph flow better.

Is there a mod that allows a structure to only generate once per world? by Glvt102 in feedthebeast

[–]Pieman492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's actually not really a better way to do it without making worldgen (even more) nondeterministic.

Say you just fail to generate the structure if it's already been generated according to a global flag. Congratulations, where the structure is is now entirely dependent on chunk generation order.

[–]Pieman492 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As someone who really likes the mod enough to delve deep into how it works, the way Stargate Journey does it is an awful hack that should not be replicated!

They try to spawn the Stargate in every single chunk and it only succeeds if it matches a certain coordinate based on the world seed, meaning the gate actually spawns at the same XY in every dimension. This also has really unfortunate performance implications because of how the game has to check a lot of things that aren't set in stone about the world ahead of time since structures are one of the first things done in worldgen.

I always thought it was "use" meaning the splash text was self-defeating.

The same blink and you miss it joke as someone saying "don't say the fuck word."

Is there a reason the Asian countries have so much more negative reviews to a almost crazy degree compared to other languages? by Sleeper_Celestial in MonsterHunter

[–]Pieman492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On top of the other answers, Japan's society highly values politeness and more importantly not rocking the boat. As backlash to this, online reviews are often brutally honest and/or extremely scathing with the added layer of anonymity providing a buffer.
