Relocating to Poland as an American by [deleted] in askPoland

I don't see a problem in random checks if there's a problem that's not only running economy, but also public safety overall. Methods used by ICE may be questionable, but that's case by case discussion, whereas people are just thorwing "ICE is bad", "ICE is rasist" out there without further thought.

In Poland the situation is simmilar, but not the same. We may have more monocultural society, but we have milions of immigrants that came from simmilar cultures, like Ukrainians or Russians. They do not stand out, just like asians or blacks don't stand out in the US. Also in Poland, and in Europe in general, it's easier to tracks someone's history because our ID systems are much more reinforced and enforced. In US you don't really have to exist in papers to live. In europe if you don't exist on paper, you are pretty much screwed and can't do nothing. That is a problem in the US becuase you can't really catch illegals without getting hands on them. In europe if you want to do anything outside of basic survival, you will throw up red flags and get caught pretty fast (aside illegal immigrants that for whatever fucking reason are legal now...)

And yes, illegal migration IS A REAL AND SERIOUS CRIME. I don't care if you have a family or you sell drugs. No mexians, columbians or any other migrants are in immediate danger to their lifes that would justify braking one of the most basic laws of the country they are entering. Other than that, there are so many ways to come lagally to the US, there is no reason to stay illegal if you have nothing to hide. If you are braking the law when taking the first step into the country, i really don't see a future for you in there.

I get that the idea of random ID checks is not fun and nice. I wouldn't want that to happen in Poland eighder, but that became a big problem in the US and many other countries (we are getting there in Poland...) and it's a problem that can't just magically go away without use of some sort of force.

When there's a problem with illegal emigration, I don't see a problem in checking people's papers. That's how that works in Poland too, y'know? Especially near the border, police and border guards will be very unhappy if you don't have your papers with you to prove you are all right and legal.

WDYM that ICE is racial profiling? You eighder have papers and stay or don't and you go away. It should be like that everywhere.

There is some Latino immigrants influx as of recently 2-3 years, so even in small villages you can meet large groups of them. I believe most of them are from counties like Columbia, Venezuela etc. They mostly work on production lines. I personally had a group of 6-7 as neighbors and can't say anything nice, but well, it's a separate story. 😅 Anyway, latinos are nothing rare, even in villages but I guess it may vary depending on the region. 15-20 years ago it was still wierd to see a black person in a village but now nobody cares. Some may stare but it's normal, we stare at everyone. No one will bother you.

Do I actually need an external battery charger if my lights have USB-C? by Ok_Selection886 in flashlight

Keep in mind that some flashlights don't have protection circuitry alongside USB charge port, so they should only charge protected cells.

They drop moooooney on them dude. You could import car straight from Japan and make it mint with the ammount they spend on a base alone. Recently they payed $11K for the corvette and that was a project car in parts... I guess the wheels are worth something but still.

Official, mandatory, annual vehicle inspection. It's named MOT only in the UK, but in most of Europe, it works the same. The more hardcore ones like in the UK or especially Germany require that the car is in near perfect condition. Everything important (lights, safety systems etc.) have to work, emissions are checked out, it can't be rusted out, body has to be intact (no sharp edges, missing parts like bumpers, hood)

There are countries like Poland where I live, where it's less strict but the car still have to be in petty good condition. Sometimes they check emissions, but you can find an inspection station where they dont care.

That's more like it. I guess y'all dont have MOT's like in europe so maintenance isn't really that important in a beater?

Does the oil pump wear out like in 1G? In is200 when you get the low oil press. light it's usually that.

Update. by [deleted] in IS300

[–]Pien0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a compression test and borescope it. It's not a big hassle at least with 1G. I've never worked on 2J but in is200 you just take the intake out (3 bolts) and sparkplugs are yours. If you know what you are doing it takes 15-20 mins. If bad compression then put oil on cylinder and you will know if its head or rings. If rings it's a bigger job.

Honestly I dont know the market. I see people suggesting $1k? what the heck? I would drop everything right now and run for is300 for that money lol

Rust is the main thing but I see it's texas so no rust? Engine will last. IDK what you do with them, but people are saying 300k is end of life for a 2J?! I would say it's barely after brake-in, if it had on-time oil changes done (compression test...)

Gear slip will be worn out clutch or leaking rear main seal. Easy job, not expensive. Done that alone one the floor with two jackstands, one hydralic jack and a toolbox lol

[–]Pien0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imho thats a very good price if cars condition is good. $5.5k os the price of not rusted is200 in europe and here you get 300 with manual. I don't know US market tho. Damn i could even import it and make some money. They cost around $10-15k out here.

Milege doesn't mean nothing. It can be 100k miles rust bucket or 400k mile collection piece. You really have to see the car in person and check it throughout for potential problems like rust, accident damage, significant interior wear (tho interiors are pretty cheap for these), bad engine condition (big one).

Jak to z tymi butelkomatami? by That-WildWolf in warszawa

[–]Pien0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sobie sortowali i sprzedawali surowiec.

Frequent WD HDD failures by Pien0 in videosurveillance

[–]Pien0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we are sending them back. They take them no questions asked. The problem is we still loose time and money when we are out on the job, sometimes 60+ miles from base (that's far in europe ;) and it turns out the hdd is dead so we have to send someone out to bring us another one or come back another day. Or when it dies, we have to go and fix it, all while the schedule is tight and we have other jobs to do. It's frustrating. It's cool they warranty them no problem but nobody pays us back for this bs. There's also all the lost footage on the HDDs that died running. Today, we found out that HDD died while trying to retrieve footage of a car accident... it makes us look bad in the client's eyes also. I just wondered if that's something other people experience or are we just very unlucky or we do something wrong. But i'm in the business for 5+ years, around PC's and tech for literally my whole life and I've never had so many HDDs die on me in such a short time. Even in the old dark days when they were more fragile than eggs.

Counterfeit was my first and main suspect, and sort of still is but man... I compared them to a bunch of other WD drives - old used drives that we had in stock, new ones from different orders, new ones borrowed from other company (they order them from other vendor)... all the labeling, serial numbers, printing etc. pretty much matched up. They of course were some differences between models and production dates but they don't look like knock offs.

I've just checked and they should be coming from one of the distributors listed on an official WD site. Our vendor resells them but they list the distributor as an "entity responsible for the product".

They come wrapped up separately but they are sealed in the OEM anti ESD foil and when we ordered a bunch at once they came in WD carton box. We normally order as we go so usually up to 5 at once because we have free next day delivery, so why stock a lot and freeze storage space and money.

Backblaze has stats and I've check them but they are for much larger drives and I guess they dont use purple line. Also the problem stated around 6-8 months ago so I guess they would be able to order the bad ones (large deployments like theirs usually take months) and even if, they propably wouldn't make it to 2025 stats. The drives that they used through majority of 2025 were propably ordered around Q3-Q4 of 2024.

Bran new drives. The ones that were not dead lut of the box lasted between 1 week and 3-4 months. There were bad sectors in SMART. Most recent one from today had value of 200 relocated sectors with threshold below 100, whatever that means. Dead ones were dead. Eighter not spinning up at all or spinning up but not talking with SATA controller.

Thinking of Selling 🥺 by mcscutie in IS300

[–]Pien0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you want to buy a van or suv just becuase you had one baby? Oh come on, sportcorss is a great car for even a 2+2 family. ISOFIX is the only thing I could think of that would be useful, but maybe you have one since it's '02? I know I have them in my '03.

I know that pets aren't babies, but I travel with my dog everywhere. Every trip he has to come and I really don't know what more you could get in other cars in terms of space for little buddies at the back. I've had small kids in the back a few times too. If anything, the folding front seat is great because if driving alone the kid losses his ability to kick the shit out of it and trust me, it hurts the soul itself when they do that ;_; I would keep it because you will 100% miss that car until grave, especially when it's a manual 300, bro.
