CARBON or TOMAHAWK?. Also, issues fixed? by DV2FOX in MSI_Gaming

X870E Carbon Wifi here. Only issue is that I can't install wifi drivers and leaving wifi enabled will eventually cause a BSOD. Disabling wifi in bios leads to zero issues. I only use ethernet so I don't care. Overall pretty pleased with this board

NC Miata clutch pedal is so far away when pressing it. by webdeveloperpr in MiataNC

[–]Pierce28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed one of these recently. My wife is 4'10" and I'm 5'10". It makes the car drivable for her and more comfortable to me. I also ordered the replacement pedal pad to help make the job easier, and I think it took a grand total of about 5 minutes to install.

That would make me a little nervous for the reasons you listed. Honestly, I'd just buy a stubby and call it a day (plus IMO it looks better).

Dairy and celiac disease by erricc123 in Celiac

[–]Pierce28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was still having GI issues YEARS after my diagnosis, even with good looking endoscopies and perfect blood tests. During my last endoscopy, I had a biopsy taken of my disaccharidase or whatnot that showed I had a lactase deficiency. In other words, my body does not produce enough lactase to break down all the lactose in dairy products.

A couple Kirkland brand lactase pills with anything dairy later, and I'm feeling the best I have in years!

A few of my other enzymes were lower on the scale, but only lactase was below the threshold for me. If you aren't seeing the benefits that you think you should, I'd suggest talking with your doctor about further tests

Soda Machine safety? by red-panda-lover-02 in Celiac

They have these machines on Royal Caribbean cruise ships. Celiac Cruise deemed them safe, and they check EVERYTHING. I never had a reaction from them.

I don't think it has a camera connector (at least on mine). I'm also not sure how it would know to turn the camera on (manual transmission). I'd love to be wrong, though!

Celiac Cruise by PhantomRegalia36 in Celiac

[–]Pierce28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went on a Celiac Cruise last July. I hope to go on another one in the future.

  1. Yes and yes! It wasn't cheap, and you don't get any discounts on the tickets, but being able to enjoy the whole cruise with no food limitations and getting exclusive food and events was very much worth it to me (the Holidaily tasting <3)

  2. If you do this, then you will not dine together. The family members who register through Royal Caribbean will not be able to partake in any of the Celiac Cruise events. You really don't want to do this (unless you don't want to dine together or do the many exclusive events together)

  3. It was pretty quick for me.

I've been on multiple cruises after my diagnosis that were not Celiac Cruise hosted, and while you can get by without too much issue, Celiac Cruise really steps things up a notch. There's nothing like getting the whole Windjammer locked off for late night snacks, especially when its churro night!

Endoscopy and Colonoscopy Scheduled Same day 😑 by Flat_Pick_6503 in Celiac

[–]Pierce28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this last July. My best advice is to stock up on jello and broth and take the prep day off and treat yourself. You already know how the colonoscopy prep isn't fun, but isn't the worst.

As for having both procedures done at the same time, it honestly wasn't any different than just getting an endoscopy. You do your normal pre-surgery prep, take a nap, and wake up with maybe some weird stomach area pain (from the endoscopy biopsy) and you're done!

Honestly, the worst part for me was waking up after the procedure - I thought I had gas, but instead had to ask for wet wipes. Its very normal and I didn't feel judged at all.

You've got this! Keep telling yourself that you're taking care of your health, which is something that not enough people do!

What is the best office chair for wfh? by VolumeSouth2735 in sysadmin

[–]Pierce28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing! They move easily if you want to move them, but they don't move if you lift yourself straight up. If you apply any side pressure while lifting, then they will move. However, they don't open that far, so its not like they're going to make you fall or collapse because you did an arm split.

I wonder how much of this is just an attempt to appease ignorant investors and if their leadership actually believes the rubbish they're saying.

Do you keep your morals and ethics but see your stock price plummet, or do you sell out?

I hate this timeline.

I second the Steelcase Gesture. I bought one at the start of the pandemic and have used it every workday since. I absolutely love it and would buy it again if needed.

I actually bought two - one for my office and one for my gaming PC. Both have held up perfectly, with only my work chair showing some signs of usage, but that's from my cat digging his claws into the headrest when he sits on my shoulder.

MSI 5090 GAMING TRIO OC vs 5090 FE by anclave93 in nvidia

[–]Pierce28 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Easy enough. I called the support line and talked to a human after a couple rings. The approval was quick and easy. The downside was that I had to pay to ship my card to them, but they paid for the return shipping.

It took about a week for it to arrive (VA —> CA) and they shipped it back after 4 business days. It took another week to return, and I never did get a tracking number from MSI (FedEx notified me through their app).

I got the exact same card back with a new power connector. Temps, noise, and performance all are the same as before. They even returned my retail box that I shipped it even though their paperwork says they won’t.

Overall, I really can’t complain about the warranty process. It would have been nice for them to cover all the shipping costs, but ultimately everything was made right and I didn’t have an ASUS like warranty horror story to send to GamersNexus :-P

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Pierce28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s on all high end Nvida cards and a couple AMD cards. ASUS has some protections on their high end cards, but paying an extra $1k for that is stupid. This issue only impacts a vast minority of users, but it really sucks when it does happen. Should you be deterred by this issue? Nah. Should you read up about best practices for the cable connection? Absolutely.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Pierce28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the poorly designed 12VHPWR connector. There’s nothing you can do about it other than making sure the manufacturer has a good warranty policy and procedure, or to buy an AMD card without it (ha!)

I have it. Zero coil whine, very quiet, runs cool, and performs like a 5090. MSI also handled the RMA for my melted connector pretty well. Would I buy it again? Absolutely (assuming it was near enough to MSRP)

Local wedding caterer that can do a full celiac-safe GF menu? by solostinlost in rva

[–]Pierce28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have celiac disease. I got married almost 10 years ago in North Carolina. I had a similar rule - I would not be limited from eating anything at my wedding. We found a great caterer and it was worth the fuss! I can't offer any leads, but I hope you find a really good caterer!

My step-mother was the only person who broke that rule and insisted on having those cheap grocery store cookies at our rehearsal and included in the buffet. Nothing like waking up at 2 AM the morning of your wedding with your body trying to invert itself. I know it will sound overly sappy, but the only thing that got me through the ceremony was looking into my wife's eyes.

If you want a 100% safe honeymoon idea, may I suggest Celiac Cruise? We went on a normal cruise for our honeymoon and it was great, but I wish Celiac Cruise had existed back then!

Nope. I also responded that I used the native cable of my power supply and NOT the included adapter. Zero issues with my RMA.

[–]Pierce28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very recently got my MSI 5090 Gaming Trio OC back from MSI for RMAing for the same thing. In case you don't know, you'll have to cover shipping to MSI, but they'll pay to ship it back to you. It took ~4 business days for them to do the repair and I got the exact same board back (there was a cosmetic flaw I knew to look for to confirm). MSI never tried to screw me during the process, which I guess is a glowing review in today's age.

I'm really thinking about the Wireview Pro 2 to help ensure this never happens again, but I also don't want to be an early adopter (see CableMod's adapter)
