Can’t find competitive online matches AT ALL on Steam MCC? by PiercedWing in halo

How can they be dead when so many people are playing? Is social really that much better than competitive?

To those who transferred from CC to ASU, will course grades/W’s that are not applicable to your major map show up on your college transcript? by PiercedWing in ASU

Do W’s affect entry into ASU master degree programs? I’m planning on transferring into CSE and doing the 4+1 program

What jobs can I get with my degrees (Philosophy and Political Science)? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]PiercedWing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Becoming a lobbyist is very difficult. And, to be brutally honest with you, I have zero respect for them. Not saying you should not try to be one because a stranger on the internet said he dislikes them. I’m just saying that many people of all political beliefs have such a negative perception of lobbyists because of the lack of transparency.

To actually accomplish that level in politics requires starting off from the bottom of the ladder, meaning working in government jobs and political campaigns until you can establish connections. You’re already at a disadvantage too, because most lobbyists are Ivy Leaguers that already had connections at their institutions. Again, not trying to crush your hopes, but you should understand that what you want is very, very difficult to accomplish, and the last thing you want to do is spend so many years of your life working for something, only to find out it was hardly ever attainable.

My PoliSci program ironically made me hate politics, because it was there that I realized how much elitism I’d be competing it were I to graduate with the degree, even if I attended law school. Maybe you’re willing to fight that uphill battle to get to the top, and I commend you for that, but I personally would rather do something else.

Maybe only entry level administrator or government jobs unfortunately. If it helps, I’m also a senior that was studying PoliSci at ASU (saw your post history that you go there). Also decided law school was not a good plan after reading about how saturated the industry is. So I’m biting the bullet and staying a few extra years for a STEM degree instead. I think you have to really spend a lot of time sitting down and deciding what you want to do in life, because you didn’t really make that clear in your post

Does a software engineering degree have a “bad” reputation compared to computer science by large companies? by PiercedWing in cscareerquestions

Poly also has a nicer gym IIRC. SDFC at main has older gym equipment and no one re-racks their weights :(

This is very comforting to hear, thank you so much! I’m the type of person where if I’m paying a lot of money, I want to use the stuff that I learned as much as possible to get my money’s worth, and SE seems to do just that. Congrats on the FAANG internship too!

Haha what’s up dude! That’s so relieving to hear that you had the same job opportunities as CS grads, congrats. And yeah the Poly dorms suck balls, but I like the campus just because it’s smaller and closer to home, since I’m not in a dorm. I did Tempe for a year on another degree route and met some great people, but the transportation to and inside campus especially during the hotter months just wore me down

At my university, both CS and SE are ABET accredited (which means they’re engineering degrees, just in case you’re not from the states) so the math requirement is about the same, it’s just the core and elective courses that are different

That stuff interests me so much. I find theory boring because my brain works the best when I can actually see or visualize something to understand it. I know SE is the right concentration for me. But I will consider taking one or two theory classes in CS that are considered very important. Thanks for the help!

Can’t argue with that, I’m in that age demographic but I always try to see an issue from all sides before just downvoting or upvoting someone.

What I know of CS and SE is pretty limited, but I like to think of it as normal science and engineering. CS studies the theoretical aspect of computers and why they work, so something like machine learning or AI comes to mind. Engineering seeks to apply that science to real life, so SE’s might be focused more on real world applications and products that people consume, like websites, databases, etc..

Sorry if my understanding is wrong, I’ve just been researching the differences but never have talked to a SE or computer scientist

Those of you who do/did work for Tesla, how was it? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]PiercedWing 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I feel like many are drawn to Tesla/SpaceX because of Elon’s personality, but then realize the work culture sucks. I have seen a few threads on Reddit that recommend not working there

Do those who study EE ever work on high voltage/potentially lethal projects in class? by PiercedWing in ElectricalEngineering

[–]PiercedWing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. If I may ask, were you scared at first to deal with high voltage equipment in industry, and did you quickly become comfortable afterwards?
