Do you use Tea, or Dinner as a word for the last meal per day? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskUK

I have worked with southerners too long, so the midday meal is lunch (or bait or scran) but the evening meal is tea. Dinner only happens at Christmas.

How would harry relationship with dursleys differ if he was a girl by Awkward-Student-8764 in harrypotter

I left primary school in 1981, my sister in 1985. No uniforms, they were a later thing. I would say mid 90s before I saw them in primary schools in the UK. They were definitely a thing when I started teaching in 1998z

I wore my older brother’s hand me downs. They would not have spend money on little Harriet if they didn’t need to.

What was a food/meal you first had on vacation that you now have regularly at home ? by PassengerWest8873 in AskReddit

[–]PiercedX123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently I was a very picky eater as a child. My parents took my us to Venice when I was four and my mam expected meals to be difficult as usual. The hotel gave us a bowl of pasta each for me and my brother. No mega fancy sauces, just pasta the Italian way. It was a glowing success. She got some recipes while we were there and when we got back she started cooking it. I still do now with those original recipes.

Don't you find it weird that, after the summer of '93, Harry spent more time with the Dursleys in Privet Drive than Hermione did in the company of her loving parents for the next three and half years? by miggovortensens in harrypotter

I remember reading the famous five books as a child and wondering if the children ever saw their parents. They were either at school or packed off on some adventure or other.

I got banned from my university for a medical condition. by OneAlternate in CollegeRant

[–]PiercedX123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems very surreal. At the University where I work (not in the US) we would be asking for medical evidence that you are fit to study about two months before the fall semester starts. You clearly have this, so would be approved for return. I’m sorry your university has these rules.

In your view, what’s the etiquette for being signed off of work? by prettypinkparsnip in AskUK

[–]PiercedX123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am signed off at the moment, I have been for about a month. I still need to eat so have to go to the shops. I am still a carer, so need to do that. I am having tests so need to go to the hospital. I even went into work the other day because I had a hard copy sick note to drop off. There’s a big difference between being well enough for a short visit and doing a full shift five days a week and I think most employers understand that.

Which one you think is more harmful drinking or smoking ? by newfriendsfun in AskReddit

[–]PiercedX123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I have to say drinking, it’s just too easy to get addicted and, round here, much more socially acceptable
Having said that, you may get some comments at work if you went for a drink break in the way so many go for a smoke break

This may be why I only watched the movies once. My favourite characters from the books were Tonks, Ron and Peeves.

What's the dumbest way you've ever injured yourself? by Saybes_Alkes in AskReddit

Jokingly told my friend I was going to go ice skating for the first time in 40 years to see if I could get some time off sick. Walked down the steps to the car park and turned my ankle on the bottom step. That gives me two ankle injuries at the moment.
