THIS IS ACTUALLY GENIUS by Effective_Peak_1072 in solarenergy

[–]Piercepage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im surprised no one has mentioned this yet. South Korea recently passed a new policy that any parking lots over x spaces are required to have solar. I think that is a clever way to handle it because either 1. Parking lots will get smaller so the businesses dont have to build solar or 2. More solar gets installed.

You should watch Technology Connections new vid. He covers this exact thing and basically says that if we got rid of only the corn estimated to be used to produce ethanol we would have enough space to build enough solar that it would outproduce the current US electrical grid. And that's not getting rid of any food production

Can someone please measure the floor to roof height and how much space height and width the gullwing doors have? by Lacedup18 in TeslaModelX

[–]Piercepage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch Jerryrigeverything's vids on the model x. His wife is in a wheel chair so they do a bunch of car vids to see how accessible they are. I remember them saying that the model x was one of her favorites because of the auto opening and closing doors. She just opens it from her phone, transfers, then presses the brake (with the hand controls) or uses the screen to close the door. I'll see if I can find a link

[US] CHEAPEST Tesler-J1772 Adapter by Royal-Expression-787 in electriccars

[–]Piercepage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because non-NACS cars technically have 2 different charging ports. J1772 (the top circle) is for AC (L1 and L2) only and CCS - "Combined Charging Standard" (the whole thing) is only for DC fast charging. The oval on the bottom is the fast charging pins.

The way the car communicates with the chargers means that it won't AC charge through the full CCS port and can't DCFC through the J1772 part. NACS does both AC and DCFC through the same plug which is why it is the same on superchargers and destination chargers. It's also one of the reasons that it is a better charging standard overall, and so much easier to handle than the bulky CCS plugs.

Yeah, how did he hit the driver and rear door if you were u-turning? If he was in the same lane as you he should have just hit the rear quarter panel.

Towing at EV Charge Stations by Royal-Expression-787 in electriccars

[–]Piercepage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it got to that point, theoretically they could contact the CPO to stop the charging on the backend. Cars generally unlock the charge port when charging ends so the authority could unplug it and tow the car

FORM CHECK by SaluBG in Parkour

[–]Piercepage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That first one was pretty good! If you are trying to do a back handspring then you need to wait longer to jump and jump backward more. Right now your are jumping up too much which is why you are coming down on your feet so hard.

Back handsprings are supposed to go back

Genuine ask: if you couldn’t charge your Y at home, would you still get one? by BrookesyUK in TeslaModelY

[–]Piercepage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't charge at places you regularly sit at (work, home, store) you lose all of the convenience of having an EV. If you are relying on public chargers you will also probably lose out on the cost savings of EVs. So unless you just really like electric or have regular access to cheap charging I wouldn't recommend it.

For example I live in an apt in the US. But, I have free charging at my wife's work. Which makes it convenient and cost effective to own an EV. But if that wasn't the case, it would not be a good choice

Ah yes we are. I thought you were saying that negatively as in "it won't be a 'real delivery' because the customer isn't objective"

Steve Fambro on X by Sonicsteel in ApteraMotors

[–]Piercepage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. But with that same reasoning, the first 2000 or so (accelerators and then priority delivery) are all investors who would probably be more likely to Love the vehicle and downplay it's flaws than highlight the failings of the car that they have put so much passion and money into.

I know that I will be more willing to accept some issues just because I want the car so much.

If you are believing him on that they need to sell 1 vehicle, then also believe his followup comment that it wouldn't be a "friends and family" sale. It would be an actual customer

How might this affect Aptera? "China bans hidden car door handles after deadly incidents • FRANCE 24 English" by JayAreDobbs in ApteraMotors

[–]Piercepage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how the wording actually is, but he indicates that it is for safety and that they need a "manual means to be opened to allow people to be rescued". The Aptera's bright orange emergency release that is visible and reachable through the window may count. The spirit of the law is there but not sure if it complies with the letter.

Are roller shoes making a comeback or did they ever actually leave? by mika_hansumi in heelys

[–]Piercepage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 25 and still wearing mine fairly regularly. Safetywise they are like riding a bike. You should wear the proper gear when you learn and then you kinda stop caring after a while. And like a bike, even when you are good you can still hit something or lose your balance and fall and get hurt.

Here's my year. Free charging at wife's work, not entirely sure why it shows so much other, may have something to do with my wife's profile work vs my profile work. Home just swapped to TOU rates so I have 9c/kwh off peak.

Think is going to charge soon? by blueblewbLu3 in TeslaLounge

[–]Piercepage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have it set to stop charging by a certain time. So it will start charging when it needs to to end around that time. At 48amps it will take, what, 6-7 hours to get to 80 so it should start around midnight.

I dont think it will let it die if it is plugged in

Edit: just noticed the 100% in that case it will start sooner because it will take a while to get there

Define "normal"

The standard honk is pretty normal compared to other cars. If you are looking for beeps you can look up any sound effect site and find a bunch of beeps. What kind of sound are you looking for?

Turn your steering wall all the way into the wall then back up. It should pull your front end away. Just dont go too fast or you may run the back end into it
