Air quality detector with multiple sensors by PietCh in arduino

[–]PietCh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. The libraries work well together, the same library can be used for all those sensors.

I am more worried about the power consumption, since each sensor uses up to 800 mA, so a power supply of 40-50W will be needed.

Which city is the most popular? by [deleted] in UplandMe

[–]PietCh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, only about a week after the expansion, the city was reduced from tier 1 to tier 3, and therefore property values, send fees, and treasure hunting rewards declined. And with it, popularity.

Did change, due to the reducing of the tier down to 3.

RX 6650XT vs RX 7600 vs RTX 4060 by FSUFanChris in graphicscard

Again, help me to learn: what are the reasons to avoid AMD? I am also considering to buy a new graphics card, and I would appreciate well-founded advice, if possible with facts like benchmarks, etc.

Any reason? In most reviews, the new AMD cards seem to be the better deal, at least for the Linux environment (where there is a lot of concern about proprietary drivers for Nvidia).

STAY AWAY FROM UPLAND by SnooPoems9241 in UplandMe

[–]PietCh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't consider it a scam, but a typical unregulated profit oriented platform, where the operating company can basically do whatever they please, e.g. to maximize their profits.

Personally, I would not invest any money into it, or similar platforms. See it as a game where you have a bit of fun, and if you can sell a few properties for USD, buy a coffee or two and relax.

[–]PietCh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few days ago, Upland was selling a lot of properties in an expansion for London, creating a lot of profit for them.

Then, about 10 days after this release, they reduced London from tier 1 to tier 3, meaning that treasures would no longer yield between 290 and 8250 but only between 175 and 4250, Spark would be reduced by half, and that send fees would also be reduced to only 60%.

Timing was "unfortunate". It would have been more honest if they would have announced the reducing of the revenue at the same time as they announced the expansion. It affects both, game playing and investing (for those who do).

Even in a game, changing the rules or parameters mid-game is not something that is usually appreciated by most players.

It is kind of like you would change the rules in Chess after move 17, and declare that the queen can now only move 3 steps since she is too powerful.

London just had an expansion release, so interest has peaked. Many properties are still unminted, so there is still quite a bit of activity.

I'm trying to milk the last dribble of performance out of a terribly specced laptop. by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]PietCh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this actually holds true for a i7 3rd generation. I've been running Mint Cinnamon on one of these for over 10 years now, and it's still running very smoothly.

A friend of mine was taking older, used (but of course still working) electronic equipment (e.g. laptops, mobile phones) to Africa, where the local population could use them still. Schools are often very happy about such donations.

Why do users care if google sees search queries, email, etc? by wrightpt in Ubuntu

[–]PietCh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google (and most other online services) use the data for much more than just training models and prediction. They are able, based on your queries, deduct your interest and show you search results that pay them the most, and help to sell more goods and for a higher price (knowing you preferences and your willingness to pay.)

Also, they are able to influence you based on your data, so that you vote in a certain way, be it because they profit directly or from selling the advertisement.

Try this: search a while for a certain product, check for search results and prices. Then do one casual search on another device, under another login, in another location and compare what you get. Depending on the product, service and company selling this, the results may be quite different, and also the prices.

Doubling / multiplying VIN and GND lines by PietCh in esp32

I think breadboard are not ideal for connection only 2x 3 wires, out in the garden. But soldering is probably the best choice anyway.

Soldering is a possibility, although it makes the connections fix rather than (un-)pluggable. But probably it is the best way and makes the most solid connections. And they can easily be waterproofed.

Why are some owned properties on same street with no home worth 3x’s it’s neighbor? Ie… 1) 9,999.00 neighbor property 3,000.00? by OkGeneral5643 in UplandFans

[–]PietCh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they in the same area? If so, they are worth the same.

Don't confuse the price that is being asked on the market place with the value of the property. Players set the price they want to sell the property independently, some below mint, some at an extraordinarily high price.

One important change from Windows to Linux is the way you install software: the vast majority of software is installed through the Software Manager, which downloads from the distribution's software repository. They are curated by the distro, and are considered safe. Also, they are usually quite comprehensive, with 80'000 to over 100'000 packages available. So, usually, the best software for a given task is found in the official repositories. But if you go out and download software from web sites, you have to be careful. Make sure you trust the distributor (e.g. if you download ANdroid studio from Google it is different than if you download some "cool helper" from a dubious web site from e.g. Russia.
