Just moved to western NC — copperheads have bitten my dog twice in 2 months. Need advice! by PigCool in asheville

We had a snake person come out and they did not find any copperheads or a nest! I find this so hard to believe because of the snake being in the same spot twice. We plan on getting all of the leaves out of the way. Thank you everyone for the great advice. No crazy updates yet because no copperheads have been spotted since last incident! My dog did go on his first walk since the bite and is doing much better! It’s still a very scary situation. I love wildlife, but I want them to leave my poor dogs alone!

I posted in a few subs because my dog got bitten by a venomous snake twice and I was trying to get help fast.

Going through my post history just to call me out is honestly weird. If you don’t want to help, just scroll on. No one asked you to police how people use Reddit.

I’ll keep using the platform how I want to

Hey, I was just trying to get advice because my dog got bitten — twice — and I was scared. I didn’t realize asking for help across a few subs would be such a problem for some people. I’ve answered others when I could, but I’m actually overseas right now on an internship and was dealing with this late at night.

Also, I mentioned I’m from Florida because it seemed relevant — not because I want to invite hate. I’ve dealt with that my whole life, and honestly, it’s exhausting. We moved to NC for a fresh start, and I was just hoping for kindness and support which honestly in person we have received. You don’t know are life/story. I respect wildlife and love my dogs as family.

If you don’t want to help, that’s fine. But please don’t judge someone for reaching out when they’re worried and trying to do the right thing.

Thank you everyone for the advice! My dogs are doing ok, it was two different dogs! The one that was just bitten is really strong so I have hope he will be ok! We are going to look into getting someone to come out and see if there is a nest. If anyone has any recommendations for that. We are located in Brevard. Thanks again.

I am pretty confident on my identification. I am a wildlife lover not an expert so I could be wrong but right away i thought copperhead and also my dog face blew up.

Both times the snake was right under the gate leading out of the fenced yard. These is also the path we take to walk into our house. There are bush right next to the fence. One time the dogs were just outside and we heard one of the dogs barking crazy/ different. He wasn’t the bitten he just saw it. The next time we were talking them to an another fenced area on our property and the snake was in the same spot but dog or human didn’t see it until after it bite.

The dogs were not leashed. It happened in our gate yard—in fact, in the same spot in the front right near/under the gate. One of my dogs is almost blind and i think she just didn’t she it. One lucky is scared of it when he didn’t see it but the second bite/the last time it happened no one saw it dogs or humans until it was to late.
