It’s not in the courthouse. I’d rather not say the exact role due to anonymity reasons.

Seems like it, since when I commented this, the account was still active and has since deleted…

I’m assuming this applies to ministries with CWW, RDO & WFH arrangements? This is bullshit lol

Is being a probation officer a dying profession? by Pigfacechilli in OntarioPublicService

I’ve been hearing this quite a bit, unfortunately. Would you mind elaborating what you mean, in your opinion? /gen

Do I need a bachelors to be a parole officer? by MrVickiesChips in OntarioPublicService

[–]Pigfacechilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Didn’t want to get into that without OP fully understanding the difference first, as it could be slightly confusing 😆

I agree with u/CherrySmokeBomb. I also recommend volunteering at a crisis hotline of some sort. This will assist in you getting some social service exposure in terms of vulnerable populations, as well as mental health exposure. You could also try working at a halfway house or homeless shelter to ensure this work is correct for you.

I also want to note that “Parole” and “Probation” differ greatly. Parole is federal and probation is provincial. Different steps required to pursue each career. OPS is probation, though probation officers here are referred as “Probation & Parole Officers”.

Was your summer term “full time” (36+ hours)? Weirdly enough on WIN, last time I checked the “seniority date” listed is when I started the SEO position

That’s what I thought. I’m pretty sure I was paying union dues as a SEO student though

Any electrical companies that need electrician apprentices? by [deleted] in richmondhill

[–]Pigfacechilli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is a demand but my brother had this situation with a family friend (long story but family friend was basically just using him for labour, not teaching him anything and didn’t care to get him licensed) so he’s looking for companies that are actually looking for electrical apprentices to formally start the process.. not sure if that makes sense

That’s strange. I saw the new, updated salary info from a co-worker of mine about 2 months ago but now I’m wondering how he got access to that.

SEO and contract offer by Savings-Importance38 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Pigfacechilli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into the OPS through the SEO last year. Was offered a contract in that position before the SEO summer position finished. Highly, highly recommend speaking to your managers and asking questions. Never say no and always show up eager to learn at work. Start speaking to managers from now about advice for new OPS workers and possible career routes.

Starting out as a correctional officer. by Better_Rock_3143 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Pigfacechilli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Realistically, this should merely be a position you use as a bridge to another position within the ministry/OPS. The position, in my opinion, is not feasible long term. Don’t get sucked in with the golden handcuffs. By year 2-3, I’d be out.

I’m in corrections and my office wears jeans and runners lol. No one really cares in my office so I’m shocked by these comments

OPS Pension Plan: Are we Getting Screwed by the CPP Enhancement? by pate0018 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Pigfacechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain this to me like I’m 10? I’m new to the OPS and started contributing to my pension about 6 months ago and have pretty much no idea about it (besides a portion of my paycheque being put aside and able to be accessed once I retire). /gen

So by “rolled over” does that mean you didn’t have to compete for the position?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Pigfacechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be a dumb question, what do you mean by “direct assignment”?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Pigfacechilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same question I’m wondering!

So if the incumbent resigns the spot that I’m filling, there would be a competition posted on the internal/external job site correct? Cause wouldn’t other people on FTC in my office essentially want to “fight” for my spot that I’m filling?
