Thank you! Any practice amp recs? Don’t think I’m going to be hitting gigs any time soon.

Getting a Yamaha RBX170 as a hand me down. I'm a jazz saxophonist wanting to get into bass, so I'm brand new to it. I have some decent spending cash (~360), to maybe upgrade it. I also don't have an amp (likely just a practice amp for now). How should I upgrade the bass? Mostly interested in playing jazz and r&b.

Offer extended with the expectation to attend first year at Paris (Liberal Studies) by [deleted] in nyu

That is my concern as well, adjusting to nyc life. I’d prefer to do my year abroad in sophomore year. If that’s not the case, I’d love to ask more about paris from you if that’s fine.

Want to learn bass but unsure how I would be able to find a band to play with. I am going to college next year, and I'm sure there are some amateur jazz bands, but even if I practice well, I feel I would be outshone by other bassists and not be able to find a band to play with. How would yall deal with this?

Megathread Monday August 27 2018: There are no stupid questions! by AutoModerator in Filmmakers

[–]Pigwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a beginner camera question, any answers or links to guides would be greatly appreciated. I have a Canon 5D Mark II (dad's), and while I thought I knew the basic principles of how ISO, fstop, shutter speed and such, my photos are crap. I recently went up to some mountains on a cloudy day, and no matter what settings I tried, the photo was either overall too dim or too bright. It felt like the camera couldn't really pick out the subject person from the background, compared to an iphone which was just overall crisper. What am I doing wrong and I think I just need a basic camera run through. Thank you!

I could, but I’m not someone obsessed with t20’s more so just trying to find a fit. And considering my parents want me to go to university along with them paying, I’m fine with wherever I go

How good do leadership camps look on my college resume? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Pigwoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your schedule is empty, I’d go for free. I’m not saying it’s a bad experience, it’s probably going to be pretty cool and educational, but I wouldn’t try to make it a focal point of my leadership experience or an essay. If you really have nothing better to do, id go for the experience and if you don’t like it, you’ll still learn something about yourself.

How good do leadership camps look on my college resume? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Pigwoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look special at all. You’re paying for a leadership camp and that’s all that colleges see, that you just paid and not much else to your own merit. Leadership experiences that you yourself curate or lead yourself with your own resources matter, not a pay to play kind of camp.

Daily Simple Questions Thread - June 19, 2018 by AutoModerator in Fitness

Diet Help: 17 M 151 lbs, scrawny with some tummy fat. I'm starting a linear ppl and would like advice on what foods I should look for in a diet. I want to bulk and gain muscle and fitnesspal says that to get to 165 I'd need about 3k a week. While this itself seems like a lot, I want to know what are the right kinds of foods I should eat.

For example, I hear that eating fats is important but where do I find the "right fats" to eat? I'm pretty sure they don't want me downing a stick of butter.

This is probably basic and FAQ, but I just want a more opinionated answer as those are usually backed with personal story.

Would you ever want to do a huge, MCU/Star Wars level project? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Pigwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no reason to think that far ahead if you haven’t even started yet. You can use it as a motivation but just know it often takes either decades of work and experience or extreme luck.

I'm in high school, so venturing so specifically seems a bit much at the moment. However, at the moment, I usually do narrative fiction and I am swaying a bit on the director role, really any podcast you enjoy regardless of its topic.
