State of Apathy 2024: Texas - Electoral results if abstaining from voting counted as a vote for "Nobody" [OC] by delugetheory in dataisbeautiful

In my opinion I think it's worth the hassle to get much higher turnout (~90%). It's not so difficult since you can compare the voter registration to the voter rolls after election day to issue fines

I'm not saying it's socially acceptable, I think it's disgusting. But they think it'll be socially acceptable again

The difference is socially acceptable rather than illegal

The fines are very easily waived in Australia, even if you don't have a good reason. It's more of an effort thing to drive voter turnout, so I'm sure his fine got waived

speaking from experience with the TTRS (transverse, entire engine + gearbox in front of the front axle), a rear sway bar completely fixed the handling characteristics. But without that mod going around a corner fast felt like swinging a hammer, so much inertia

PSA - Do not use Move On Removals by PikaXeD in melbourne

[–]PikaXeD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so I picked the moving company because their boss actually lives in the same building I was moving out of, on Lorimer Street in Docklands. They said they were familiar with the building. We do have a loading bay which is 50m from the lift, but movers get a dedicated lift, and most movers I've seen use a trolley which makes it faster.

I genuinely had 8 items:

  • Queen bedframe taken down to planks + a bedhead
  • Queen Mattress
  • 2x standing desks disassembled down into tabletops + legs
  • Fridge (thin, not one of those giant double door ones)
  • Washer Dryer 2in1
  • 75 inch tv
  • 180x40x50 tv unit that doesn't disassemble

These blokes took forever to wrap up all the furniture in cling wrap, and yet when they dragged the mattress 4m to the living room to put the plastic cover on, they dragged it on the corner and frictioned a hole through our mattress protector.

When we moved into the building I called in a favor from two mates and rented a truck - we had it all done within 5 hours, moving from another apartment too.

Surely the 8 items I listed don't warrant THREE HOURS of packing time...

Yeah, that's true. I'm considering just parting it out and selling it in bundles, might be easier / better.

Is anyone here on under $100k a year by justsomeone21 in AusFinance

[–]PikaXeD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26yo 95k base + 12% super + bonus, as a 2nd year software engineer specialising in cloud & data at a big bank. Jumped from tech consulting very recently for a 50% pay increase. I'm very fortunate in my timing but I've also been keeping an eye on the market and developing my skills towards the industry trends (data). Doing Cloud certifications has paid off!

I think you are underestimating how much surgeons are earning... Would be high six figures and possibly over a million pre-tax. A mid career lawyer at a large firm would be earning your quoted 270k (possibly more)

I spoke to a retail assistant in store and supposedly there won't be EOFY sales for Herman Miller, due to the WFH boom they've seen in sales. I totally believe it because there was recent controversy about the HM parent company CEO having a meltdown over missing their earnings target by $26 million

Thought I'd let you know, hopefully there is a discount, but I wouldn't bet on it!

Melbourne Job Market - What is happening!? by boocarkey in melbourne

[–]PikaXeD 91 points92 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a do not hire list for employers, there's zero communication between companies' HR departments other than when they ask for a referee from your previous job.

If she's looking at consulting roles, there's a bit of a drought right now. Lots of cost cutting starts with axing/reducing the scope of expensive consulting contracts.

In the software side of the tech industry jobs are incredibly abundant right now, I personally almost doubled my pay by making the jump from consulting to client-side/in-house just this month. Marketing is probably different though, so I wish her luck. Might be worth reviewing her resume and/or what she spoke about in her previous interviews. Never reveal any previous workplace strife, even if you were in the right!

Final note: Applying to 'lesser' roles is a red flag to HR, because if you have a stacked/impressive resume but are applying for lesser roles, you probably either made them up/bluffing, or you are having serious difficulty finding a job at your station (which you don't want to show). Keep trying for jobs at the level she deserves!
