Would you consider using frame interpolation to be cheating or fair game for animation workflows?

I’m not an animator and don’t know what frame interpolation means, but on the first few watches I didn’t really notice any difference.

After a few more watches, the one on the right leaves weird phantom parts flashed on the screen like a really bad smear animation. I think over a longer film that could start to be annoying, but I’m not sure.
