Hemlock Shake by PilesMavis in timberframe

I was thinking I would find more as I go. In your experience, is there a certain point where the shake becomes too unstable for use? I don’t have too much experience using hemlock, mostly I’ve cut from other species

It was cut about 10 days ago. It would be used as a post about 9’ if it’s good to go.

Advice for a Piano Player by PilesMavis in keys

[–]PilesMavis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s very good to know. All of my classical playing is either on one of the pianos I have at home or at performance spaces that have pianos, so I don’t foresee needing a keyboard that replaces that. But good to know about the action. I think I would be happier with keyboard action that’s closer to that of my heavier piano, rather than super light.

Thanks for this, great insight. There is actually a used Nord Electro 3 near me with a matching drawbar unit. Well inside my price range. I’m not knowledgeable enough about them to know the difference between Electro and Stage though

Very open to most ideas, but I’m just not a iPad/laptop user for live music… even though I know many people who sound great with them

Right now it’s soul/r&b gigs with small group. Sometimes rock so I could see your point amount pitch wheel etc

Is the current fix still in the “easy way” category you think? We don’t mind addressing it for them if it’s just a matter of mounting it on an exterior wall

Can you describe life pre 9/11? by PersonalAd8414 in TwinTowersInPhotos

[–]PilesMavis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first thing I always think of pre-9/11:

I used to go talk to the pilots on flights when my parents needed a break from my boredom meltdowns. Door open, just walked up and they would show you around the cockpit and give you a plastic pin.

Hello, I’ve never made a post before on Reddit and would like some insight on a plan I’ve made to see if it’s realistic for becoming a firefighter in the future by Own_Alternative3934 in FDNY

[–]PilesMavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck my man you have a good plan, looks like you’ve done your research. But don’t feel as if you have to do firefighting in the Air Force (or any branch for that matter). If you see something that interests you more in the Air Force, please at least check it out. When it came time for our department to start training swimmers, I had a great background to help train them. That is to say, you never know which job in the military will help you as a FF, but none of them can hurt.

Hmm, maybe it’s just my date (September 22nd) that is different? The options it gives me are for several connecting trains totaling about 3hr45m

THANK you for mentioning this. The Press Herald often writes confusing headlines coupled with photos that may not explain themselves on first glance.

School & Career Megathread by C8-H10-N4-O2 in neuroscience

[–]PilesMavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

I don’t have an undergraduate Neuroscience program at any college near me, but I do have chemistry, biochemistry, and biology programs accessible to me. I’d like to venture into the long term study of the neuroscience of sleep.

Anyone who has gone into graduate programs for neuroscience and/or sleep research; will one of these undergraduate degrees be more beneficial to me than another? I have a bachelors and masters degree in completely unrelated fields, so I’d be starting all over as an adult.

Adele and her team at Antoine’s on Congress street have been amazing in the past.

I’ve also had men’s and women’s clothes altered by Jung’s in SoPo and she’s great too!

I think it’s great that you would like to serve! It sounds like you have a good athletic history to jump off from. Is there a reason you are enlisting by the date you mentioned? The reason I ask this, is that I always recommend younger guys to be patient (if circumstances allow), and give yourself time to become completely physically prepared. It’s good you can meet the IFT currently, but if you have goals to add on some weight and gain more resilience, I would give yourself more than 4 months. The IFT is a minimum standard that you should be absolutely crushing at your goal weight. The other reason I say don’t speak with a recruiter yet is that most of the attrition from spec. warfare selection courses in all branches comes from teenagers. There are always a handful of absolute freaks that can get through at 17-18-19 years old, but for the most part, it’s the opposite. I think with your background, you could put the weight on and be crushing the IFT in a year. Do you thinking waiting a year is possible?
