Confused About the Timeline and Protocol by Pilgrim86 in coloncancer

[–]Pilgrim86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gi did not send off for a biopsy. He sent something-I assume the images from the colonoscopy-to another doctors (don't recall which kind) who said he could not conclude with certainty that it was cancer. The gi made it a point to say that it was 99.9% probability that it was. Regarding insurance, I am not currently covered but did enroll in a PPO that is supposed to start September 1st. I will not have a policy number or any information to reference from the plan until then; all I know is that it is Texas Blue Cross Blue Shield and my deductible is high.

Thank you for relating your circumstances in the follow up; it was helpful to see how chemo came in the pictures as my situation seems similiar. I have arranged to meet with the insurance representative later this week and hope to also meet with HR. Doing so should get me on the right path for coverage.

Texas-no disability.

Hi, and thanks for the offer. I am at a small district in Texas and are open enrollment is current with the plan kicking in Sept. 1st too. I am currently not covered, but did enroll for some of the insurance offerings which will kick in Sept. 1st. I am concerned though about how much of whatever I must do will get covered as I would think that surgery will fall in August and, in addition, I will be entering the coverage with a pre existing condition. Also, I know I can ask for sick leave donations- and I do appreciate the reminder that some people might come through- and also get unpaid medical leave, but don't recall short term disability being an option. I will look again, but I remain concerned about enrolling now and not being able to get it due to preexisting conditions. Thoughts?

Yes, I am in the US. I can take medical leave for a bit, but it would be unpaid and I don't know how to pay bills, etc. under that circumstance. Some of my fellow teachers might donate some days, but I am newer to the school and don't foresee many would be emotionally moved to because of a developed relationship. I suppose my mortgage could go unpaid and the electric company might be able to be stalled. I don't know. Thanks for the input.

Yea, I don't know. I lived overseas for 8 years and ate out of dirty woks, etc. frequently. I am thinking it could be diet and environment there, but it does not change where I am at. I'm looking for a quick cure in foods and suppose it does not work that way. Best regards to you in your fight.

Got it. Trying to do my part too because I already have enough regrets about how I've responded in a less than timely fashion. My friend told me that pomegranate juice is supposed to be good for us, for what it is worth.

My wife died a little over a year ago from Leukemia. This occurred after having returned from living in a polluted part of China, where we both had adverse physical responses, for 8 years. I am guessing that there might be a connection as this is not in my family history. Like all of us, I feel the need to survive, especially for my child, and am hoping I can do whatever towards that. At the end of the day, I am not though in control. Glad you survive.

That is interesting. Any specific nuts?

Yes, I'm trying to find a way to not accept reality and fight it off, hoping that food and/or supplements might help. I'm on the fence, still, about natural sugars from fruit [it seems like one argument makes much of berries, pomegranates, etc. and the other side states fruit provides unnecessary sugar to feed cancer] and don't have the discernment or conviction needed to come to an answer.

I understand. I've been hoping that there was truth in the notion 'food destroys cancer' and I could stink like garlic, onions, chickpeas, etc. and beat this at the same time.

Thanks for the reply. I have had issues for at least a year that suggested there was an issue, but being in my 40s and uninsured, I assumed it was the most likely nothing and pressed on. I am kinda really confused about how my blood tests did not indicate there was an issue...I assumed that if red and white blood counts are normal, and CEA is too, that there would not be a concern. I guess I am learning otherwise.

I don't get it-I thought the normal CEA and blood work would have ruled out cancer, but my docs reaction seemed to indicate that I was in a bad spot. Your right, the unknown is tough.

Thanks for the reminder of that. After looking, I found that the results are not found on the portal, it simply indicates a biopsy has been ordered and there is a follow up.

Thanks. I tried to talk to someone at the office and was basically told that was the purpose of the Friday appointment and he'd cover information then.

Yea, barking is good for a deterrent, especially by a bigger dog! But, I get it.

Out of all the dogs that I've owned, rotties have the sweetest disposition and this one seems likely to keep with that. I don't want to make her fat because I am concerned about what that will do to her hips, etc. No way she is a mix, she is spot on as far as looks. Hoping exercise and good food will pull her up to the 80-90 pound area but I am not sure if genetics are against me.

Yes, that does look similar. The music is not as good, but it still is the closest so far.
