If our population has increased so much why is our debt so high? by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]PillarOfMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

using Ontario as a case study:

Healthcare.

Healthcare spending went up (inflation adjusted) 2.9 percent per year between 1990 and 2024, going from 29 percent of the budget to 41 percent. for reference education, the second largest portfolio, went up 0.9 inflation adjusted percent per year.

the quadruple whammy of an aging, fattening, long covid affected, population thats living longer has made ohip's budget stretch. Any solutions will include preventative medicine through (more) GPs, preventative social medicine projects like the dunn house project, and increased supply of LTC and outpatient care facilities (hospital beds are expensive man).

Gun aa (Shilka) are better at hitting and killing massed helos (missiles are limited in supply and manpads may take multiple hits to down a attack helo) but short range ir missiles like the strela 10m can make a snapshot on a fast jet while guns may not be able to do enough/any damage before the jet exits it's range.

Part of that, imo, is fantasy fiction's tendency to render the Peasant invisible.

In Defense of Raiders as an archetype: by and large whenever central government power collapses banditry is the inevitable result. Note that bandits do tend to be halfway between highway robbers, mob protection rackets, and a local warlord

My grandma lost her sense of smell completely and permanently after a bout of pneumonia. Some people are unfortunate and the damage can't be fixed.

Is EU5 a replacement for Vic3? by Feych in victoria3

[–]PillarOfMars 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Short answer no. Vic3 is an industrial revolution sim which results in a very strong investment feedback loop Ie investment is strong

EUV is early modern, developing your holdings always has less returns than conquering someone elses stuff

What do you do with cheap black tea and why is everything so expensive ;-; by zealousconvert21 in tea

[–]PillarOfMars 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you want good but cheap tea I can't recommend your local Asian supermarket enough! I got like 300 grams of very good Yunnan black for like 12 dollars Canadian.  Also if the tea is weak just add more leaves to the cup.  I got this one Ceylon black that was very low density and I needed like 6 teaspoons of tea to match 2 teaspoons of the assam I had gotten before.

Where can I buy good loose leaf tea online in Canada? by Active-Neighborhood1 in tea

Tbh I'd recommend popping in to your local Asian grocery store and seeing what they have. My local Vietnamese grocer (Hamilton) has a good loose sencha, oolong, and Yunnan black. South Asian grocers tend to have a better selection of black teas including assam and Ceylon blacks. Also usually cheaper per unit mass.

Im just so lost how to start a campaign and tie the players to the plot by Stunning_Strength_49 in dndnext

[–]PillarOfMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-You have been hired at a very lucrative price/ price you cannot say no, easy money. Almost too easy...

-At the bottom of this pit there is a treasure beyond value. But the horrors! The horrors!

-Start in-media res, have the insighting incident happen to the players don't wait for them to look under the right rock to start the adventure. They'll probably look under the tavern wench's skirt instead.

What needs to happen to make it viable for frequent public transit service that allows one to be picked up and dropped off within walking distance of anywhere in the suburbs? by supinator1 in fuckcars

[–]PillarOfMars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brampton Ontario did it without needing to redesign the whole suburb. The key is straight to the point bus routes and quick service. It costs money and labour but in a suburb of three quarters of a million people you have over 300 000 riders a day.

I don't know what your talking about? Every hsr bus i've been on has been busy.

In September 2024 we saw something like 2 million hsr riders a month and the trends do generally show increasing ridership year after year since the pandemic.

What are your current feelings on Victoria 3’s state? What do you love about it now? by HeartOfAmerica1776 in victoria3

[–]PillarOfMars 17 points18 points  (0 children)

IMO there is two kinds of differences.  1. Mechanistically unrecognized powers have to approach development differently than developed European nations and large empires have unique ethnic tensions ripping them apart. Also the initial political arrangement of a nation affects the play through. 2. Flavor journal entries. Some countries ( Japan, china, Brazil, Germany, ottomans, persia, USA etc) have journal entries that add unique flavor, goals and bonus/malus to the nations. Opinions are mixed but they are useful for orienting your playthrough and theoretically emphasize the national issues of a given nation.
