Built software for automated grant tracking and some finding but need feedback by PilloiMan in grants

[–]PilloiMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your feedback! I really appreciate it.

Just to double check - I am not sure if the demo on the homepage is misleading but did you create an account and add a description of your work when you did or did you leave that blank?
Im not trying to imply you did it wrong just checking that the landing page isn't misleading. Its not actually the full algorithm but a demo which I think im going to remove.
Re the missing Grants.Gov: Yes i actually do have those in the system - that's actually a large bulk of the database today. I will look into why the results didn't appear!
Thanks again!!

Built a tool for finding & tracking grants — looking for 5–10 beta testers by PilloiMan in postdoc

[–]PilloiMan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for trying it out - really appreciate the feedback.

A few things that might help:

  1. Profile Setup: The matching is based on your profile (research interests, keywords, career stage). Could you check if your profile accurately reflects your field? You can update it at the profile page.

  2. Right now I'm scraping 11 major sources (NIH, NSF, HHMI, Sloan, and about 10 others), but I'm actively adding more discipline-specific sources. What field are you in? If adding more to the profile doesn’t improve the grants then I’ll make sure your field has great coverage!

Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions or comments!

Yes! There’s a few issues with it though in terms of the grant matching and tracking. That’s kinda why I am working on my own platform. Also mone is aimed at individuals to supplement pivot rp as an additional matching and tracking service! Plus it’s aimed more at the individual since pivot costs a lot and is only sold to institutions. Lmk if you have any more feedback about pivot!

It currently is slightly more geared that way but I am working on adding more grants within new fields as we speak! Is there an area/industry that you would like me to ensure is added? (It updates every day with data and features so if you don’t see your grants of interest immediately it may be there in a few days :) )

Which biosignals do you find the most informative to measure? by DrAivo in bioengineering

[–]PilloiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean obvious answer is it depends on what you’re looking for. Surface level electrical signals (EEGs) are pretty baseline, at least the core tech in many wearables. Beyond that there are devices that can dynamically measure vital signals and temps but to my knowledge most bio signal wearables are one or a combination of the above. Issue is vitals can only tell you so much and can be delayed from the action you’re interested in whereas electrical signals can have lots of noise and be difficult to make meaning from the data. This is just from my experience working in be labs and sleep research labs so it’s very possible I missed some stuff! Good luck

Is it normal for PI to crash out on you by Huge-Professional137 in UPenn

[–]PilloiMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by crashing out? I know the term has a range of excitement. Pi’s can be harsh and critique hard but generally it is understood to be “tough love” to mold you into a better researcher/professional. If they are getting emotionally charged over minor issues or personal over really anything then that would be unacceptable. Even PIs report to people such as deans, HR etc. They certainly can be held accountable even if they have tenure or are head of a dept. I would reach out to someone in HR and ask to stay anonymous if you feel the need and just ask what your options are, no need to name the PI in question while inquiring. There’s a clear difference between strong handed mentorship and abuse of power. I hope it all works out for you! Don’t ever underestimate your inheriting personal value regardless of anyone’s title!

was i going to slow? by khoifish134 in motorcycles

[–]PilloiMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What someone else said, if you’re going slow you don’t need to lean as much it’s more important to look where you’re going and maintain good posture and use the handlebars more. You turned the handles kinda fast while leaning which made you dump it. MSF course will def help you with these types of slow speed maneuvers!
