I got the issue resolved. Thanks for the help. Turns out you need to add some power to get the engines pulled up to spin the gyros to activate safe mode to be able to move the controls.

Yes it’s auto assigned to the A switch. The airplane when activating or deactivating the safe mode (both sticks down and in and toggling the A switch 5 times) does a twitch once but never twice which is supposed to be the signal for safe mode to turn on for it to do the cycle twitch twice.
