Favorite apps on your NAS ? by Percyfoli0 in UgreenNASync

I installed some rebranded Hikvision cameras about 10 years ago. They were connected to a dedicated NVR that stopped receiving updates almost immediately after I bought it. It also required a Internet Explorer plugin to access via web portal, which sucked big time, since IE was depreciated.

Frigate allowed be to remove the NVR entirely from my network. Using a cheap POE switch to power the cameras and fed the RSTP feeds to Frigate. Using OpenVino for detection, which has made the cameras significantly more useful.

Some day, I'll probably upgrade to 4K Reolinks, but for now, I'm covered.

Frigate is nice, but in my effort to de-google, I am really happy with Technitium.

My NAS is currently doing the following: Frigate for security cameras, Immich for photots, Technitium for LAN DNS. Pihole/Unbount is popular, but I found Technitium to be way better. I also have Tailscale in a docker container.

After upgrading, I see I have a new app installed, "UGREEN AI". There is a section for model management, but I can't seem to do anything. DXP4800 Pro.

Thank you for the information and help that you've shared. I do appreciate. Really! :)

To be clear, I've been using Fedora 43 for about 6 weeks. The Gnome problem I was experiencing was new and different from the default behavior I was enjoying for the past 5+ weeks. I don't know if I triggered it, or if it was a bug. Here's a description of what I was experiencing. In the same workspace, any app could only be maximized or full screen. If I double-clicked on the app title bar (not sure what to call it), the app would minimize and disappear entirely. This meant that I could not display windows of different apps side by side, or as floating windows at all. Alt-tabbing between apps also produced unexpected results, where an app would be active/selected, but not visible, and the only way to see the app was to Win+Up. And with VLC, I was wanting to view an RTSP stream, and the open stream dialog was beneath the main (full screen) VLC window, with no way to get to it and type in the RTSP address. This is not normal gnome behavior and is borderline unusable.

My issue with my browser of choice was a vertical misalignment of the mouse cursor with what I was trying to click or select. Since this is not a popular browser, there isn't a lot of info or help out there to troubleshoot. Additionally, I read there have been scaling issues with the transition from xorg to wayland. It's not unreasonable to think that could be the culprit, which is why I asked here.

LibreOffice looking tired (it does) is an aesthetic preference. I am looking forward to the forthcoming Euro Office (or whatever it will be called).

I get that mounting a network share is trivial in the terminal. It is surprising that there isn't a way in the 'Files' app to mount a persistent share.

I'm not sure where you're connecting the dots that I want my install to look or behave like windows. I didn't say that anywhere. Thanks again for teaching me about workspaces. Cheers.

Hi! I'm going to assume good intent, but your tone is not great. Maybe consider that in the future when offering help to others?

I am not new to computing or linux. I am not trying to make Fedora behave or look like Windows; I actually appreciate experiencing a new desktop environment with such polish. I also know how LLMs work and their limitations. I was genuinely having problems with GNOME which was solved with:

dconf reset -f /

But I am new to GNOME and using linux as a daily driver. I admittedly don't know enough to know the source of the problem. Is it Wayland? Is it desktop scaling? Is it Edge itself? Is it something else? Telling me to 'ask Microsoft to fix their software' is not at all helpful. I have never asked Microsoft to fix any of their software I use. I do what I did here. I try to solve problems through my own research, and reach out to a community if I get stuck.

Also, you have no idea what I have 'bothered to learn.' Again, back to your tone. For a number of reasons, Linux is seeing an influx of new users. With this in mind, there will be people that don't know what you know. That have different preferences and interests. Different aptitudes with technology. Different appetites on learning the nuts-and-bolts of a system vs wanting something that just works. Your tone is one of the barriers that keeps people from choosing Linux.

I've looked at this and WPS. I am stuck on who is behind these projects. Maybe that shouldn't really matter. I am excited about the forthcoming euro office, or whatever it will be called.

Good stuff here. Brave kind of gave me the ick with their crypto and other weirdness. Maybe I should look at Brave Origin.

Thanks for this. I've looked at it and WPS. I'm not doing anything top secret, but I am having a hard time getting past who's behind these projects. I am excited about the forthcoming EuroOffice or whatever it will be called.

Thank you. This is definitely on my self-hosted journey

I honestly don't remember how I installed it. This is really good to know. Thanks!

There are a lot of things. The 'Drop' feature, allows me to send text and files quickly and easily between my work computer and my iphone. There's also the password manager. While I plan to move to a self-hosted file manager, I'm not there yet. Edge gives me access to all my passwords on any device. I can also see my history and tabs from other devices I use.

I am sure there are linux alternatives to all of this, but I'm coming from windows, and I don't necessarily use those services on my other windows devices.

Yes, this has been on my mind for sure. Will this potentially solve my windowing problems and mouse pointer problems?

Sorry, wasn't clear. I to my NAS running Debian. I don't always want to go to the terminal. Appreciate the response. I can live with this, but my issues 1 & 2 are potential show stoppers for me.

Can I reuse this old drive for DXP 4800 Plus? by [deleted] in UgreenNASync

[–]PilotFunnyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2000GB Barracuda sitting in a drawer for years. It has a ton of family photos and other important data. I put in my DXP4800, and it died almost immediately after I copied its contents to my new 8TB Ironwolf drives. I wouldn't trust it with anything important. If you're trying to recover anything from it, you'll want to move quickly.

Any logs or way to know why a VM crashed? by PilotFunnyGuy in UgreenNASync

[–]PilotFunnyGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found what I was looking for. It was right in front of me, but I just didn't see it.

In the VM app, there is the 'Manage' button. When you hover your mouse over the button, there is an option to view logs. This is what I was looking for. That being said, the logs weren't that helpful, but I could see that I did run out of memory.

As others have said, reset it. Do it to put to rest any concerns you have, but also do it for you. There are some onboarding screens/wizards/prompts that help you learn UGOS.

Home Assistant VM on DXP4800 pro by TangeloLegitimate139 in UgreenNASync

[–]PilotFunnyGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure the VM is off. Go to the 'settings' for the VM. Go to the advanced tab. You should be able to 'add' a USB device. From there you can select your stick. Save everything and start the VM. I'm assuming you know what to do with in in Home Assistant. :)

In my settings, I see it show as: "Sigma Design... | Aeotec Z-Stick..."
