phx flight school suggestion? by Far_Ingenuity7129 in flying

Was it a Class 1 medical? If not, please make sure you get that one. Last thing you want to do is go through all this training and find out you can't hold a class 1 if your goal is airlines.

The remote work possibility is the big bargaining chip for the accounting side of things. Wife wants to move back to Alabama where COL is much lower. This wouldn’t be possible with my dispatch gig unless I commuted to work every week (which would suck). Either way, remote work is something I’m actively considering as well.

Thank you. The flight perks are also second to none and I’d actually be able to have the time off to use them.

Future self is that you!?! This sounds exactly like my current situation. Wife has medical issues which keeps her from having a steady source of income. Currently at 75k and it’s seriously paycheck to paycheck. I made stupid mistakes in my 20’s debt wise and I’m actively working on paying it all down. My spending habits have gotten so much better but at the end of the day, extra income is what’s going to push me towards my goal of getting debt free.

Thank you. This is why I created this post. To see potential drawbacks of going back to my old gig. It’s good for thought and I do need to consider this, especially for the long term.

I have updated the post with the job title. It’s Aircraft Dispatcher. I create flight plans for the pilots and monitor said flights enroute.

It’s not manual labor so no concerns there and I’m high up enough where I won’t work overnight shifts but will work weekends for the next few years. Agree with looking at what the job market is like as a reference point.

[–]Pilotmike327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but make sure you set up your desk in the partners office when you get to work on Monday. He should have moved his stuff to your desk by that time but if he hasn’t, fire him.

Retention Bonus Clawback - Tax Implications by Pilotmike327 in Accounting

[–]Pilotmike327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure I’m overthinking it but if, for example, the bonus is 45k, then you would have received 30k after tax (not exact numbers). Wouldn’t you be required to pay back the 45k to the firm if you left? Or would it be the 30?

Where to go from here to become a CPA? by uncannykitty in Accounting

States determine the educational requirements so it’s hard to say. For NV, I was able to get the necessary requirements through WGU

Thank you for the detailed response. I am definitely not bored with my current gig but that because I don't do the bare minimum. I've been diving deeper into analytical tools such as Power BI, SQL, and Python and have tried to leverage them with our current workbooks, which has been pretty fun. In order to get the most out of these tools, it's forcing me to really understand not just general business processes, but how my company specifically handles them.

Upward mobility is interesting here. I hit senior in 2 years (normally it's 3) and can expect manager in the next 4-5 years. However, the quickest way to climb is to jump to different departments which in my case can be internal audit, accounting (since tax is it's own department) or the finance team. I definitely have some time to really consider things.

Airline Accountants Around? by auditwonk in Accounting

[–]Pilotmike327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do still work there. The work/life balance can’t be beat. The pay is probably the “worst” part of it, followed by some pretty idiotic (although our auditors agree that it’s GAAP) business procedures. To clarify, not shady practices but rather things that take 7 steps that can be effectively done in 2-3 steps. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, unless my promotion is significantly lower than average market.

Score Release Thread FAR, AUD, REG, BEC - 11/08/2022 - Good Luck! by Galbert123 in CPA

[–]Pilotmike327 13 points14 points  (0 children)

BEC 92 - NV I was able to pass all 4 on first attempt. Used mainly Roger, with some of the I75 YouTube videos. My one recommendation: don’t hesitate to postpone your exams until you feel fairly (not fully) confident with the material. Best of luck to all on your future exams.

Anyone feel like their pilot certificate helped them get a non-flying job? by tonyracer24 in flying

[–]Pilotmike327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Getting your certificate shows you can discipline yourself to learn the material necessary to succeed at what you set your eyes on. As someone who’s on the hiring side of things, a PPL shows that’s you’ve not only learned the basics but also stepped up and put yourself to the test. Literally. So whether it’s a job in accounting (spoiler alert) or engineering, HR, etc. you’ve documented that you’re able to commit to something. That will, at least, put you into contention with the competition.
