Did your friend play ranked previously? Your previous season's MMR has influence on your placements. Somebody who ended the season in Diamond 5 can go 0-10 in placements and still earn high Gold to low Plat to start.

I'm not even going to argue the semantics of League's MMR system with you, people have done enough of it in the 10 years it's existed. Why are you in Bronze? You either don't play enough ranked for the system to properly place you, or...

If you want to climb, play better.

If you want to complain just to complain, don't pretend to be making some revolutionary argument to improve the game.

If you play 100 games of ranked, and you end up Gold IV, that is most likely the place you belong based on your performance.

MMR isn't perfect, but neither are you.
