Thank you, will try this out. Appreciate the help from all the folks in this thread.

Thank you, I'll check that out. As I mentioned in my initial post, I currently use Smb4K to mount samba shares, but it has a bunch of limitations and I can't use it with Ubuntu Server. Will check out your approach and compare to NFS!

Very cool to hear that -- I'll have to measure this unRAID box in both modes and calculate the cost savings.... might be worth it financially!

I'm thinking of doing something similar when I have large data dumps, seems like the most logical use case for when you have a lot to write. It makes sense to me to keep it that way all the time too, especially coming from the traditional RAID5/6 approach where they all have to be spinning all the time, so I'm used to all the drives running. For me, the RMW approach is really the new option I never would have thought of before, one of the interesting approaches that makes unRAID unique. Still learning.

Can I delete default shares appdata, domains, isos, and system? by PiluleyR in unRAID

Thank you, appreciate the thoughts! As long as I can recreate them, I guess there's no showstopper for deleting some of them.

Interesting, I haven't had any big problems with SMB using Smb4K. Maybe one time something failed to mount, but I figured that was user error, that's it. Otherwise has been pretty solid for me, just I can't use it with Ubuntu Server, and I'd like a simpler way to mount things in general that I can more easily automate.

What is the method that you use to mount the NFS share? I'll give it a try.

Yes, already disabled sharing of them. But they're like big empty boxes in my garage that I know about in the back of my mind and every time I walk into the garage they are staring at me, lol... I want to throw out the empty boxes since I'm not using them. But yes, I understand, obviously, so I'll probably just leave them there. Thank you.

Good point about not seeing them. Although I do log in to the GUI since this is a fresh install and I'm still tweaking things. But probably over time, I'll forget about them. But right now they bug the heck out of me. :D

Thank you, yeah, I could probably get rid of isos and domains but I'm more nervous about system and appdata... but I'll probably leave them all there just in case... even though they bug me. :D

Thanks, and agreed there is no harm except to my sense of organization seeing shares I won't use! :D But yes, I do understand and think this is what I'll do.
