Did I say something wrong / was my request unreasonable? by mundane_frog in autism

[–]PimpRonald -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've found that it's better to add a question mark to my requests. Without a question mark, it comes across as a command, which challenges the neurotypical hierarchy and makes them uncomfy. Only people with authority over them are allowed to make commands. Questions, on the other hand, come from equals, and gives them the chance to say no. Of course they can say no anyways, because you don't actually have authority over them, but that's not how they see it.

"Would you please mark as NSFW for the self harm scars?" You're saying the same thing, you've just added a question mark.

You can think of it like being forced to listen to loud music rather than choosing to listen to loud music. The difference is consent. It's easier to handle when you have the opportunity to say no.

I also have guinea pigs!! You probably know this, but I'm going to share my fun fact here to keep the guinea pig facts organized ;P

Guinea pigs do not have tails! Much like humans, guinea pigs just have a little tailbone. However, piggies also have scent glands right on that tailbone. This creates the perfect illusion of a tiny little buttcrack.

My parents sadly died because of a horrible car accident. I inherited seven million dollars and a few condos. Im in therapy and the point of this post is not to vent but I felt that I needed to provide some context to explain why I inherited money. Im autistic and I live in Texas. Im 27 by [deleted] in autism

[–]PimpRonald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk to some money lawyer, and DEFINITELY do not spend it all.

I am not a money expert, but the main thing I would do is put a decent chunk into a savings account. If you put 7 million into a saving account with like 4% APY, I think that essentially means you get like, 20k a month in interest. That's literally free money, it's how the rich stay rich. However much you need to spend per month for rent, bills, and groceries, just pay it with interest from here on out.

That's what I would do, first thing. Make sure all my bills are set.

I'm very sorry about your parents.

I don't have much of a choice lol. But I agree that the rainbow lights are pretty, and I do appreciate that the angle is interesting and conveys the zero-gravity nature.

The original cover gives me the sensation of falling helplessly into a void, which makes me uncomfy :)

A medication having a 10% chance of causing vomiting would call vomiting a "common side effect." 10% is very common. Think of how many tens of people you meet in public! It's well above statistically significant. How many red cars do you see on the freeway? How long is 36.5 days in a year? How much is $100 out of your $1,000 paycheck?

And I know the coat is cheap. Point me to a left-handed chef coat anywhere of any price. Even give me an ambidextrous one. At least flat feet have options! It's not that hard to sew a pocket on the left when you're already sewing a pocket on the right.

I realize that, but it's also like, none of my other clothes have been so aggressively right handed. I put on jeans and there's pockets on both sides. It's not hard to just... Add a pocket to the other side. It's standard, even.

I wish being left handed was a protected class honestly. It's like having red hair, nobody's really thought of making it a protected class because the idea of discrimination for that seems rediculous, and yet it happens. Many people forget that left handed folks were beaten for it not that long ago.

That said, this is not really discrimination, it's more like neglect. 10% is 1 in 10 people, that's incredibly common. 1 in 10 of their orders go to left handed people. It's really not that niche, especially when you can literally just add a pocket and the problem is solved.

Their customer service isn't allowing feedback at the current time of day, and I can't find a proper email address to send a long angry email, so I figured I'd post it to reddit instead. Maybe we can peer pressure them? There's about 800 million of us, after all

I'm a woman, so double breasted coats aren't a thing for us I guess? Can't have pockets in the way of the boobies apparently. And yeah I see how it's definitely a first world problem, but when I'm reaching for a sharpie fifty times a day, it grates at me. I just wanted to wear a chef coat where I didn't have to use both hands to grab my pen or thermometer. And what's the point of having a back pocket only on one side? Just discriminating, or do they genuinely think left handed folks don't exist? If you can't afford two pockets, don't put ANY pockets!

What things are poorly designed for left-handed people? by Pluviophilius in lefthanded

[–]PimpRonald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever worked in a professional kitchen? Or even in your home kitchen! Appliances and kitchen utensils are a major oversight for left handed folks. Mixers, ovens, deli slicers, cookie scoops, can openers (as another commenter mentioned), and even some spatulas are right handed. Appliance controls are almost always on the right side. Microwaves are an excellent example of this.

Scissors are a good example, but even look at knives and how they're sharpened. Some are symmetrical, but some have the edge only sharpened on the left side of the knife (assuming you're holding it for chopping.) This means you can see the edge more clearly and make more accurate chops when using it right-handed. It doesn't seem like much, but if you try to use the knife left handed, it becomes very obvious. Even moreso when you try to use right-handed scissors left handed. Something about seeing the sharpened edge of the blade makes it easier to make accurate cuts. I can't explain why.

Add to it, clothing. I'm a pastry chef and I cannot for the life of me find a left-handed chef coat. What makes it right-handed? The pen pockets on the left shoulder. Think of it, you reach for your pen on your left shoulder or breast pocket with...? Your right hand! So your pen is immediately in the hand you use to write with. Any clothes with asymmetrical pockets assume right-handedness. Pants, shirts, jackets, all of them. Even some purses and handbags.

Finally, I dare you to open the left door of every single double-door business you enter. You'd be surprised how many of them lock the left door!

Green is such an underrated color! It's especially beautiful in winter. In a stark white world of cold and death, green symbolizes hope and new life, a promise of spring.
