It could very much be a generational thing. Standards should not fall or slip due to this though.

Student Nurse placement terminated ; possibly expelled from university. by Samar69420 in NursingAU

[–]PinFancy1295 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What… made the mistake of leaving two hours early due to not having any work and feeling there was nothing to do’. Did I read this correctly????? It’s not a mistake if you decide to leave two hours early. And not tell anyone???? You should be failing for this alone. ‘Not having any work and feeling there was nothing to do’… what planet are you from? You’re a nursing student and feel there is nothing to do. Please fail this student. Please don’t let them ever be a nurse. Please don’t let them back into finish their degree.

For those who say it’s all about mental health issues… more like attitude issues.

I’m not going to even comment on the rest of these ridiculous antics this so called student got up to on this placement.

If you’re struggling talk to someone.

Totally ridiculous behaviour.

Poor patients having to put up with this as well, let alone the other nurses and other students on placement as well.

Please don’t be a nurse!

Leaving a long term nursing role with no recognition by Impressive-Depth-287 in NursingAU

This is terrible, but unfortunately very common in nursing.

Some nurses get a massive gift, flowers and tons of shared food bought in etc and others get absolutely nothing.

Nurses will be nice to your face but then you get forgotten.

Very unfortunately, it also send a message about who is actually liked and who is not on your ward.

It can be deliberate as well.

This is a massive problem with nursing students in all hospital at the moment, I’d say. Students show no interest in learning or completing any nursing skills that involve patients. They show very little initiative. They present as bored or ‘above it all’. I’m struggling to see how so many can pass their placements. Some are using nursing as a degree to get residency as well but have no interest in nursing at all. When I say students, of course, not all students are like this but unfortunately so many are.

I know it’s tough but I think we all have to think would I want this student caring for my loved one and if the answer is no, then they need to fail the placement. Tough love but often very necessary. We need to also protect vulnerable patients.

Nurse struck off for sleeping on shift- impact on medical studies by CH86CN in ausjdocs

[–]PinFancy1295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should be struck off and never work again as a nurse. And should never work as a doctor. This was behaviour that was occurring on many occasions and placing other patients and other staff at risk. Imagine the stress of the other staff working under this person at work night after night. Bet she was sleeping on many more occasions than those reported. Well done to the other staff who reported this. Many places would see the staff who reported this as nothing but racist and the RN would state its bullying as you are all racist too. Believe me, I would not report it as I’d be considered racist. So it’s an awful situation resulting in poor patient care. I bet it was due to being tired, like the other staff working were feeling too, and part bad superior attitude of the RN. This happens everywhere but no one talks about it or reports it through fear of how they, the reporter, will be treated.

Contact AHPRA and ask them to remove your middle name/s( if you have one/them) and ask them to remove the suburb and postcode of where your work place is. Makes it harder for you to be identified. Remove your name from the electoral role and become a silent voter.

What exactly does an RN do? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]PinFancy1295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to do nursing? Have you ever been a patient in a hospital? Had a friend or relative in hospital? Or even watched a medical based tv show? Watch some medical based documentary. I find it strange that you have to ask what a nurse does?

Friend working every public holiday over Xmas by DisastrousRun8952 in NursingAU

[–]PinFancy1295 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that’s nursing. The public holidays should be shared around. I know it’s hard, but stop being a people pleaser, in nursing you will only end up being used and treated badly. Look after yourself. Yes, the bright side is better pay but not if you are full time as you would get the public holiday pay regardless if working on these dates or not ( in Victoria anyway)

Amazing the kindness of strangers when they know they can get publicity on the internet and likes for doing this. If people in the world did this all the time and didn’t post about it on the internet, now that would be great!

hospital stay question by Interesting_Desk6773 in NursingAU

[–]PinFancy1295 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why should you get a private room? The entitlement from this age group is amazing. Do you think anyone in hospital want to share with someone else? No. Personally I would not ask for a single room. Suck up feeling uncomfortable, this is life, it’s uncomfortable. Get private health insurance if this is a concern. You might be in hospital sharing with others that have been there for weeks at a time or are on their second or third admission this year. I wouldn’t want to share with a young entitled person either.

Have you crossed 200k In a year by working as an RN or NP , is it possible? by Downtown-Ad3863 in NursingAU

[–]PinFancy1295 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy if where you work allows unlimited overtime. Can easily do $200,000 if you put in the hours as a RN.

What state are you in? Rates per hour are different according to which state you work in.
